Chapter 25: A New Day
Did Xiao Han wake up?
That was Bai Yu’s first thought, but she quickly realized that the girl hadn't adjusted her phone settings yet. If she sent a message, the notification tone would definitely go off.
Bai Yu covered her face with one hand. She had been careless...

Meanwhile...
I was jolted awake in the bedroom by that damn phone notification!
I should have been dead to the world, but I couldn't withstand the relentless barrage of pings. In my groggy state, the noise quickly made sleep impossible.
My first instinct upon regaining consciousness was to check on Sister Bai. If I was woken up by the noise, surely she must have been too?
I reached out instinctively, but the bed was empty. She was gone!
My mind immediately went into a tailspin. I even yanked the duvet aside to see if Sister Bai was hiding under the covers. Only after I did it did I realize how ridiculous that was.
I was clearly still half-asleep.
However, the phone was still chiming, instantly triggering a bout of morning grumpiness I hadn't felt in a long time!
Who the hell is it?!
I grabbed my phone... dead battery...
My first reaction to a phone ringing was naturally my old phone, since I didn't have many friends on the new one.
So, it was the new phone acting up?
I tossed the old phone aside and picked up the new one. It was the middle of the night, and I watched as the message count continued to climb.
It was... Bai Yu... Bai Yu is... Sister Bai?
What the hell?
Why is Sister Bai sending me messages instead of sleeping in bed?
Did someone kidnap her?
Regardless, I opened the chat interface and turned down the notification volume. Even though it was a new phone, I could figure out the basic operations with a little poking around.
I scrolled to the very top.
It started with an apology, saying she couldn't sleep with me for the time being because she had something very important to do.
I stared at it, confused. Then again, isn't it a good thing that Sister Bai isn't sleeping with me?
I felt the expanse of the massive bed. It felt a bit empty, but sleeping alone in such a huge bed was actually pretty sweet.
The subsequent messages were a list of precautions Sister Bai had compiled for me.
She even explained minor details about daily life, which I found quite beneficial.
At the same time, it seemed like such a hassle. Is being a girl really this much trouble?
And this didn't even include "that time of the month" yet.
To that, I could only say I’d try my best. The only thing I truly took to heart was probably the part about self-care.
Who doesn't want to look pretty?
Beauty is justice, after all!
For instance, staying up late is terrible for the body. After confirming that Sister Bai wouldn't be sending any more messages, I sent a token reply.
Then I lay back down.
With Sister Bai gone, I could be much more reckless.
Before, my sleeping posture had been timid and restrained, but now I completely abandoned any semblance of "sleeping like a lady." Isn't it better to just sprawl out in the most comfortable way possible?

Morning.
As the sun hung high in the sky, my consciousness finally cleared.
I habitually checked the time on my phone; it was already past eight.
Seeing the time, I felt a reflexive spark of panic. My biological clock usually never let me sleep in this late.
But then I remembered the events of last night and the early morning messages. There was a reason I had slept so late.
I scratched my head, feeling a bit dazed. My hair was a mess this morning. Perhaps I hadn't adapted to this life yet, but I realized I had nothing to do today.
Maybe I should find a part-time job somewhere.
After a simple wash-up, I spent a massive amount of time just combing my hair. That feeling of the comb getting stuck halfway really irritated me!
I couldn't bring myself to just rip through the tangles, so I had to take it slow, which ate up a lot of time. In the end, I just tied it into a simple ponytail.
It looked a bit crooked, though... I definitely need more practice.
Walking downstairs, I saw that Smart Butler wandering across the floor again.
The moment I spotted it, it somehow sensed me and issued a greeting.
"Good morning, Master~"
"Yeah, morning."
I gave a somewhat perfunctory response. I had already changed out of my bathrobe, but I wasn't wearing a dress. Instead, I had opted for a very plain outfit that looked similar to a JK uniform.
A light-colored shirt on top and a small plaid skirt on the bottom.
As for stockings... I didn't wear any. Although they felt great, stockings got dirty easily and were prone to snagging. Besides, bare legs were fine too.
Finally, I threw on the Witch Cape. I didn't put on the Witch Hat, though. Such a distinctive feature felt a bit awkward to wear out, and I wasn't in the habit of wearing hats anyway. It would be a pain to carry around if I took it off.
So, out of the Witch Four-Piece Set, I only wore two items. The other was the Chest Badge, which contained a Fireball Spell—though I still didn't know how to use it.
Yesterday, while I was at the snack stalls with Sister Bai, I noticed many Senior Sisters wearing their Witch Capes and Chest Badges.
Some didn't even leave out the Witch Hat.
If only I had a spatial item that could store things at any time. I could wear the Witch Hat when I felt like it and tuck it away when it got in the way.
Also, I wondered when my magic wand would be finished and delivered. I had only left an address and a name. Surely they wouldn't try to deliver it while I wasn't home?
Whatever, I’ll just let nature take its course. There was still plenty of time before the official start of the school term, and the Academy wouldn't drag it out that long. Besides, there was a designated spot for mail and packages in front of the villa; I’d just check it periodically.
Today's task was simple. Hadn't I come to the Academy early specifically to get used to life here?
I needed to adapt to living as a girl before new roommates arrived at this villa.
Furthermore, I wasn't going to proactively tell anyone that I used to be a boy. I wasn't sure how others would view it, and putting myself in a vulnerable position was never a good idea.
Additionally, it would be great if I could find a stable part-time job. The little money I had from my previous jobs would probably only cover my meals for the near future.
This was a Witch Academy. If they required me to pay any fees, I wouldn't be able to produce a single cent.
As I reached the door, I began to hesitate over my shoes. Having gone out once last night, I knew Sister Bai had prepared some women's shoes for me.
But honestly, I was still used to wearing durable sneakers. Things like leather shoes or high-tops still felt a bit awkward.
Though, they did look very good when paired with the outfit.
Today wasn't the day for anything too flashy. I was going out to see if I could find work, and it would be bad if these clothes got ruined.
Oh, right, I haven't washed yesterday's skirt yet... Ugh... I feel like there's a mountain of chores waiting for me.
