Chapter 117: Understanding the Classifications of Spirit Vision
So, the path I’ve chosen is "Spirit Vision."
After leaving the café, I headed straight for the library. I wanted to use this time to understand how the Transcendent Academy defines Spirit Vision—specifically, if it was described in terms similar to a "Surface and Inner World" dynamic.
If I had to describe what Spirit Vision actually is, I’d use a metaphor: it’s like playing a video game. A normal person sees the beautiful graphics and enjoys a seamless experience.
I, however, see the "code" running behind the game. Where others see stunning landscapes and travelers, I see moving textures and models. On a deeper level, I see the raw code executing.
For most people, this would result in a terrible user experience—a one-star review, easily. But I don't have the luxury of quitting this game.
Because this is "Reality Online."
But now that I’ve endured it and "adapted" to a certain extent, this "bug" has become a powerful weapon for uncovering the truths of the world.
Upon arriving at the library, I set about looking for introductory books on Spirit Vision. Everything should be done step by step; there’s nothing wrong with a professional reading introductory material. Only by establishing the proper concepts in my mind can I conduct deeper research.
I quickly found a suitable book, took it to a corner of the library, and began to read.
The book’s explanation of Spirit Vision began with the definition of the name. The term "Spirit Vision" was originally coined because of the concept of "Spirit." This is an inherent concept in this world known as "Animism"—the idea that all things have spirit. Taking the "Spirit" from that concept and combining it with the act of seeing with one's eyes resulted in the original name: "Spirit Vision."
Stated that way, it made perfect sense. Based on the premise of "Animism," Spirit Vision truly allowed one to see the essence behind all things. If "Spirit" referred to the transcendent level, it was a very logical explanation.
Furthermore, "Spiritual Power" was originally a generic term for all transcendent powers. It was only later, after further classification, that terms like "Elements," "Power of Nature," "Mana," and "Witch Power" emerged.
This explanation was easy enough to grasp.
It was like "air"—eventually, it was categorized into oxygen, nitrogen, and so on. The definitions simply became clearer, though admittedly a bit more complicated.
The book then moved on to the origins of Spirit Vision. It was described as a "World's Blessing." After all, the Ley Line information categorized Spirit Vision as a Talent.
To be precise, Spirit Vision wasn't a direct blessing from the world. Rather, the world's blessing manifested as a Ritual. People in the human world gained Spirit Vision, and by using it as a form of power, they created the unique "World Power System" of the world I was currently in.
Since it was a "power system," it naturally had stages of advancement.
The introductory book also recorded the classification of Spirit Vision's advancement levels.
They were: Foresight, Imaging, Unknowable, Threshold of Madness, Floating World, and Real World.
There were six levels in total. When I saw "Floating World," I finally realized what the text following "Spirit Vision" in my Ley Line data meant!
It was my Spirit Vision level!
Floating World... didn't that mean I had already reached the fifth stage?
If I advanced just one more level, wouldn't I be "invincible"?
But if I’m so invincible, why don't I know it?
I looked at my hands and gave them a squeeze. Oh, right—I’m not actually invincible. The Spirit Vision power system isn't about pure physical strength or raw power.
A "power system" doesn't just refer to a path of combat strength; it can also refer to a path of ability.
In that sense, raw power is just a side benefit of a power system. This meant that Spirit Vision could also allow me to master an equivalent level of power!
I just didn't know how to use it yet!
Thinking of this, my self-awareness and confidence surged. As expected, this was the true perk of being a Transmigrator!
Without a certain level of understanding, I wouldn't even have known how powerful I actually was. What a waste that would have been.
Though I felt a bit smug, I quickly calmed myself down. My current understanding of the Transcendent world was still far too shallow.
The simplest issue was a lack of knowledge. I knew I needed to learn, but I couldn't just study blindly. I needed to learn based on what I specifically required.
Even though I was in a library, I was like a fool standing in a treasure vault.
Because my understanding of the Transcendent was insufficient, I didn't even know what "keywords" to use when searching for the books I needed!
If I just typed in "Spirit Vision," the results were too broad, and it took forever to find anything useful. Sometimes, book titles were even deceptive; the content would clearly be professional knowledge, yet the title would say "Analysis," or it would say "Detailed Explanation" only to be categorized as an introductory text.
This was why having a good teacher was so important. Speaking of teachers, I naturally thought of my counselor. Our first meeting had certainly been dramatic.
Even though I still felt she was dangerous, she also gave me a sense of reliability.
Moreover, she said she would help me parse that unknown [Transcendent Knowledge] fragment. That was certainly tempting, but I wasn't that reckless. In the Transcendent world, a single wrong step could lead to eternal damnation.
I wanted to live a long life, so I decided to set the [Transcendent Knowledge] aside for now—unless Ji Niang brought it up herself. At that point, even if I didn't want to, I’d probably be forced to learn it anyway.
I looked at the book in my hand. Having finished it, I put it back on the shelf, but I found myself struggling to choose the next one.
"How rare. I didn't expect to run into you in the library."
A sudden voice interrupted my thoughts.
I turned around and saw a familiar face. Tan Han. What was she doing here?
No, it was more accurate to say it was normal for her to be here. Before formal classes began, the library was indeed the best place to come into contact with Transcendent power.
"Tan Han..." I spoke subconsciously, but my gaze flickered away.
"Did something happen? I feel like you're avoiding me," Tan Han said directly, without any pretense. To her, my behavior was clearly abnormal—a change without any apparent reason.
"I'm sorry. I unilaterally promised someone else that I wouldn't associate with you anymore." After lowering my head in silence for a moment, I decided to state the reason bluntly. If things are explained clearly, it usually prevents a lot of problems. I hoped that would be the case this time.
"Hmm? Why? With whom? Did someone threaten you? Tell me, and I'll persuade them."
"A... very close... older sister. I'm sorry, I'm doing this of my own free will. There was no threat; you're overthinking it. I just hope that in the future, we can happily maintain a certain distance. Thank you."
I explained it to her word by word, even though the look of confusion in her eyes never faded.
"Are you sure? Regarding this behavior of yours... can I call it heartless?" Tan Han gave a self-deprecating laugh as she spoke, seemingly trying to ease the awkwardness of our conversation.
"Yes. I can only say I'm sorry."
"Don't you want to explain?"
