Just a Stroke of Luck
"Hmph! Don't you dare think for a second that I'm going to thank you!" Bang Sobaek snapped coldly.
"You were here from the very beginning, yet you didn't lift a single finger! You just sat on that wall, far too busy stuffing your face with watermelon! You just wanted to watch that beast lay his hands on me, didn't you? You're nothing but a hypocrite!"
The moment the words left her mouth, a wave of regret washed over Bang Sobaek. It was especially uncomfortable when Bukjin looked at her with that unreadable expression. She knew she was being ungrateful, repaying a life-saving debt with spite. She was well aware that she had lashed out in a fit of pique, saying things she didn't truly mean. For reasons she couldn't quite explain, she had simply lost control and let the venom fly.
"You're not quite who I thought you were," Bukjin said, rubbing the bridge of his nose with the finger adorned by his Mukrok-jihwan.
"I took you for a woman who knew when to step up and when to back down... but never mind. I was just taking care of my own business and happened to save you lot in the process. You two—take Ak Hong-seol and get out of here."
Hearing Bukjin's dismissive tone, Bang Sobaek felt a heavy weight settle in the corner of her heart. A sense of remorse, a feeling she had rarely experienced in her life, began to spread from deep within her chest.
