My Ordinary Day
Using the membrane-sheathed blood armor as a shield, I deflected a volley of shadow bullets while simultaneously catching a blade of light on the tip of my blood spear.
"Weak! You're not seriously thinking you can stop me with attacks like that, are you?! Come on—show me everything you've got!"
With a powerful beat of my wings I launched the shattered fragments of blood armor like bullets, and in the same motion lashed out with my tail, sending the magical girl—still locked in a contest of strength—hurtling away.
"…No matter how many times I see it, you're a monster in a league of your own."
"Hah… hah… A freak like you… calling someone else a monster…!"
The two of them already looked spent, barely holding their ground as they gulped for air. A magical girl blazing with pure white light, and a freak wrapped in shadow. Under ordinary circumstances they should have been enemies—in fact, if I hadn't shown up, they would probably have been fighting each other. Watching them join forces against an absurdly powerful common foe was genuinely entertaining. Of course it was. This was a classic cliché.
"Oh? So you do know how to say something amusing. And yet you never react to any of my jokes—really now."
As I regenerated the broken armor and pointed at them with the tip of my spear, they dropped back into combat stances, ready to fight at a moment's notice.
"With power like that, why the hell are you wasting it on something this pointless?!"
The magical girl nodded as if the freak had just voiced exactly what she wanted to say, then simply glared at me in silence. Having clashed with them any number of times before, I knew full well this was only a ploy to buy themselves a second to catch their breath by drawing my attention. So I decided to play along. Their situation was already hopeless enough as it was.
"Asking such an obvious question as if you're genuinely curious. Well—because it's fun, of course. What else?"
Their odds of winning were essentially zero; simply holding out was the absolute limit of what they could manage. Even so, their eyes still burned with fighting spirit.
Perfect. Those eyes.
This is exactly why I stir up trouble.
Now I just need to decide what to buy them when we meet tomorrow morning.
