Chapter 47
I kept the Worshippers in check with zombies while watching the fight between Tuntun-i and the rabbit.
With wings spread, Tuntun-i didn't seem outclassed in terms of size. Perhaps because Paya was riding on its back holding a Totem, it was fighting cautiously.
The Rabbit Demon shook its head a few times, as if stunned by the impact of the Body Slam, then leaped forward quickly to attack, but Tuntun-i effortlessly flew up to evade it.
Then, Tuntun-i slammed its sharp claws down onto the rabbit's head.
It hit so hard that green fluid began to leak out.
In the end, this was a fight between a pigeon and a rabbit. Even for a demon and a spirit, if their sizes are similar, the matchup is inevitable.
Most importantly, the finishing blow hadn't even come yet.
Tuntun-i launched a Yoga Fire—no, a 'Tuntun Fireball.'
The rabbit's body burst into flames upon being hit by the mass of blue fire.
Direct hit.
The creature shrieked and leaped frantically in all directions before turning into ash and vanishing.
The Rabbit Demon... that guy was the weakest.
- We must join the Tribe Alliance.
Tuntun-i will be faster than the ground-based demons, including the orangutans. We just need to arrive first and provide support.
- Ignore the Worshippers.
They were still scuffling with the zombies.
"Yes!"
Tuntun-i turned invisible again and soared high into the sky. It was practically a stealth fighter from the Middle Ages.
I think I've gathered enough points by now. Should I upgrade the Totem of Healing to the highest rank?
I checked the status window.
In the available blessing slot, a message appeared: [There is a blessing you can learn!]
...Still, I feel like upgrading the Totem of Healing should be the priority.
Should I read the description first?
[Totem of Confusion: Reveals the true form of Loa, displaying the dignity of a god. It can inflict various confusion states, including fear, on enemies within a specific range. Can be used only once per day.]
The true form of Loa. The description sounds impressive.
But since the word 'Totem' is in the blessing's name, it looks like a trash skill.
I guess the effect is roughly 'AOE crowd control.' It's probably similar to the curse that was permanently active at the Necromancer's Tomb.
I pondered for a moment.
The final upgrade for the Totem of Healing, or the Totem of Confusion...
I couldn't get both. With my current points, only one was possible.
Seeing as it can only be used once a day, it seems like a blessing with an extremely powerful effect.
Honestly, even with the Totem of Healing (Highest), I don't even know what additional effects it would grant.
In the current situation, wouldn't crowd control—which helps land a decisive blow—be more useful than a blessing that increases sustainability?
After some deliberation, I decided on the 'Totem of Confusion.'
It's a shame I can't test the blessing immediately since it's only usable once a day.
We're almost there!
Looking down, I could see the walls surrounding the city.
The walls were riddled with holes, which was clearly the result of the catapults' hard work.
'It seems this will eventually become a siege. How about we build catapults? I am an authority on Golemology, and I'm confident few know more about strategic weapons than I do.'
I was quite surprised when Harry suggested building catapults.
'Catapults? You mean those absurdly huge weapons? How on earth are we supposed to carry those around?'
'We can simply reduce the size. All the materials are already here. We can build them as modular units, pull them down in carts, and then assemble them on site.'
'Humans won't even need to pull the carts, as we have golems built specifically for construction right here.'
It was a surprisingly common-sense remark for Kanto, but Harry debunked it instantly.
After persuading everyone, Harry handed the blueprints for the modular catapults to Luna.
Since she had to create the Magic Interference Devices, she didn't have time to manufacture the catapults herself.
'Dodo! Stop slacking off and get over here to help!'
'Hard labor. I don't like the sound of that.'
'Is that the only thing you actually like, those damn tits?'
We filled the remaining labor needs with the abundance of Barbarian Warriors.
In the end, five Barbarian Catapults were constructed.
Looking at the current situation, it's safe to say they all played their parts perfectly.
I scanned the surroundings.
Smoke was billowing from various parts of the city, suggesting that Rake's sabotage had been a success.
For the record, the Tribe Alliance's Symphonia Conquest plan was as follows:
1. Raise the Totem.
2. Paya, Tuntun-i, and I lure the outer forces away.
3. The Tribe Alliance advances, subjugating five villages along the fastest shortcut to the city.
4. Meanwhile, the high-stamina Rake infiltrates the sewers, setting fire to the city and causing total chaos. (aka the Crazy Woman's Rampage)
5. The Tribe Alliance uses the catapults to breach the walls surrounding the city.
6. After infiltrating, they assist Rake in killing the city's ruler, the Gorilla Demon.
7. Victory!
Everything had progressed perfectly up to step five.
- Let's move.
Tuntun-i! We're almost there! Speed it up!
I urged Tuntun-i, and we quickly made our way inside.
The scene of the battlefield unfolded before my eyes.
Rock Golems swinging massive pillars they'd scavenged from somewhere.
Luna neutralizing Worshippers with bolts of electricity.
And Barbarian Warriors, each fighting like ten men.
Everyone was doing their absolute best in their respective roles.
However, the enemy was no pushover.
A single Chimpanzee Demon was holding off several elite warriors, including Kanto, Denjo, and Una.
With its shield and armor, the creature held its ground stubbornly, looking every bit like a true knight.
This is where things started to go sideways.
Roaaaaar!
Rake was locked in a one-on-one battle with the Gorilla Demon, and she looked like she was struggling.
There was a three- or four-fold difference in their size, and the monster had two more arms than she did.
It utilized its wide attack range to slowly pressure Rake.
Two hands held spears, and two held swords—a combination that covered both close and mid-range combat.
Kanto and the warriors needed to support her, but the Chimpanzee Knight's tanking was so incredible that they couldn't break through.
On a larger scale, the Tribe Alliance was winning, but we were losing the battle between the leaders.
If Rake fell, the entire war would end in our defeat.
This is where we need the Tribe Alliance's 'Hellfire Missile.'
I ordered Paya to attack the Chimpanzee Demon.
Screeeech!
Tuntun-i launched a fireball from the air.
The chimpanzee quickly deflected the blast with its shield, but it couldn't block the barbarians' follow-up attack.
"Hiyah!"
Kanto, who had been waiting for the perfect moment, swung his double-edged axe and shattered the creature's helmet.
Immediately after, Una's spear pierced right through its skull.
Screech!
The chimpanzee collapsed, spraying green fluid everywhere.
That ended more simply than I expected.
Well, in a balanced, tense battle like this, an external intervention can change everything.
"Lord Mallak! Paya! Truly..."
- This is an urgent situation. Go help Rake immediately.
I cut off the tearful Kanto and questioned Paya.
- Can you launch another fireball at that mid-tier demon?
"Tuntun-i?"
At Paya's question, Tuntun-i shook its head.
"It says it can't do any more today. It needs to recover."
My invisibility is wearing off too. Is it because I'm running low on mana?
Tsk. Nothing to be done about it.
- Paya, hand this Totem over to them.
"Yes!"
Totem No. 3 was passed to Kanto. He immediately activated the Totem of Healing.
The Gorilla Demon fought stubbornly without panicking, but...
"Lord Mallak is with us! Charge without fear!"
He couldn't overcome the numerical disadvantage and could only keep stepping back.
He must have been worn down from fighting Rake.
Unless you're transcendently powerful like the Dark Cloud Demon, there's no such thing as a match for a swarm attack.
Even while retreating, the gorilla tried to find an opening to kill an elite warrior, but Rake's timely interference thwarted every attempt.
It's almost time.
Ah, now.
Sensing defeat, the gorilla began to mutter something. It must be a Coordinate Transmission Spell.
Where on earth did that old geezer Harry go?
"You brat!"
Harry leaped out from a nearby building, holding the Magic Interference Device.
Had he been hiding there, controlling the golems and waiting for his chance?
I knew I could count on him!
As Harry pressed the button, a spark flew with a zap, and the device activated.
A mysterious phenomenon occurred; I'm not sure how to describe it.
It felt as if something were driving away the mysterious, magical energy that had been permeating the air.
The Gorilla Demon frowned deeply and shut its mouth. It was definitely being jammed.
The gorilla suddenly grinned as it raised its four arms, as if intending to fight to the end... wait, what?
"Old man! Get out of the way!"
Rake reacted faster than I did.
A wooden spear thrown by an Orangutan Demon was flying straight toward Harry.
"Gasp!"
Harry barely dodged the attack, but the Magic Interference Device fell to the ground with the sound of breaking electronics.
Dammit, the magical energy is returning.
The Gorilla Demon began muttering the spell again with a confident expression.
Meanwhile, an orangutan and two low-tier demons were pushing past the barbarians, advancing from behind.
- ...
Since coordinate transmission is a spell that continues even after the caster dies if there's no magical interference, this is dangerous.
...I still have one last trump card.
In a desperate attempt, I used the 'Totem of Confusion.'
I activated it and...
Gah!
The gorilla, seeing Totem No. 3, began bleeding from its facial orifices and collapsed.
Oh?
