The Ultimate Office Romance
At that very moment, a voice of salvation echoed from behind him.
"Ah! Guild Leader!"
Taejun had come to check on Yunjae, only to follow the commotion straight to the Marketing Department.
"What on earth are you two fighting about? I would like to hear why two department heads are making such a spectacle of themselves in front of their subordinates."
Taejun exuded a quiet but undeniable charisma. Perhaps it was because of his moniker, Ryu Taejun of Dominion. After all, he was the one who kept a tight rein on a guild full of eccentric ability users, remaining the most rational and cold-headed of them all!
"...The Marketing Department took our personnel without permission, which caused a problem," Yeonhui said, her face tense.
Having lost the momentum she had while cornering Dohyeon, she now looked slightly intimidated. Taejun turned his gaze to Dohyeon.
"Is this true?"
"W-well... The press has been quite harsh lately regarding the Hwagok Portal, so we have a mountain of work piled up! I heard this fellow was incredibly good at his job, so I just asked him to help out a bit. It seems the message didn't get through to Manager Woo."
Yeonhui flared up again at his words.
"It didn't 'fail to get through,' you just never sent it in the first place!"
"No, but honestly, what work does the Support Part even have right now? Is it really such a big deal to redirect some spare hands over here? He's just an office assistant anyway!"
This was the definition of being caught in the crossfire of clashing titans.
"Ah!..."
Yunjae, who had ended up in this awkward situation simply because he was too good at his job, looked utterly dejected. Taejun let out a dry chuckle.
When Yunjae had begged to be an office assistant, Taejun had never imagined a scene like this. Who would have thought such a thing could happen...?
"I have heard that Lim Yunjae's work efficiency is outstanding. They say he covers the workload of dozens of people by himself."
Taejun had already heard from Akemi that Yunjae was being severely overloaded. He had let it slide because it seemed to be what Yunjae wanted, but this situation was problematic. A hostile atmosphere like this would only hinder their efforts to recruit him! They should be fostering a warm, family-like environment, and yet they were pulling this nonsense!
"Therefore, I believe it would be far more efficient to downsize the staff in both departments and hire Lim Yunjae as a full-time employee to handle all the work. What do you think?"
I'll rip your limbs and heads off!
When Taejun, the leader of the Blast Guild, delivered this chilling proposition with a smiling face, both Yeonhui and Dohyeon froze.
"Well..."
It wasn't even wrong. Even if everyone was fired and the work was dumped on Yunjae, he could undoubtedly handle it!
"Ah, ah... I..."
But if that happened, what would become of the current team members? At his words, not only Dohyeon but all the employees in the Marketing Department turned pale. In a world crawling with portals and monsters, where else could one find a workplace as safe as a top guild? Not to mention, the Blast Guild was the most lucrative and high-paying employer in the world.
Taejun stepped closer, placing a hand on each of their shoulders, and whispered.
"Both of you, get your acts together. Do you think he's someone you can just order around? If you don't know your place, at least learn how to behave."
It was an explicit warning. He had never shown his anger so directly before. Cowed by Taejun's overwhelming pressure, the two bowed their heads in terror.
"We are sorry."
"W-we made a mistake."
Taejun chuckled and turned around.
"Well, I will leave you two department heads to finish your discussion. Lim Yunjae, a word with me."
Yunjae, who could even perceive telepathy, could not possibly have missed that whisper. And knowing his personality, he would worry about it endlessly. With that in mind, Taejun offered his warmest smile and gestured to him.
"Ah! Yes!"
Although the situation seemed to have settled down, Yunjae's face was heavy with guilt, just as Taejun had predicted, believing he had caused trouble for everyone.
"Don't worry about it too much. It's not your fault, Yunjae."
"But it feels like everyone fought because of me..."
"How is being good at your job a fault? The fault lies with those who occupy space without doing their jobs properly."
Taejun cast a glance back at the Marketing staff.
Shiver!
Are we going to get fired?
It wasn't just empty talk. This max-level office worker could finish a full day's worth of work in under ten minutes. And his speed was only increasing. He truly was a monster who could replace both departments entirely and still finish everything within working hours.
In other words...
We must never give him work again!
Threatened by the sheer power of this max-level worker, the employees gulped, their eyes burning with determination.
"Being good at your job is never a fault. The problem is people who try to free-ride on others' efforts without any personal growth."
Leaving them with one final warning, Taejun chuckled.
"Anyway, let's go have some tea."
He didn't actually plan to fire them immediately, but Yunjae's presence would certainly create a healthy sense of tension. Thanks to that, efficiency would skyrocket from now on, quite apart from Yunjae's own contributions. Satisfied with this outcome, Taejun smiled and led the way out of the office.
"Um, Guild Leader. If someone gets fired because of me..."
"Don't worry. It was just a warning."
"Ah! I see!"
"But if this happens again, I will actually do it. I hate wasting resources."
There won't be a second time.
At Taejun's cold, pragmatic words, Yunjae let out a sigh and nodded.
"Society really is cold-hearted."
"Everyone here is an adult who must take responsibility for their words. I don't want to keep people who can't act like adults."
And as if he hadn't actually intended to drink tea in the first place, Taejun chuckled and turned around.
"Anyway, how is office life? Is it manageable?"
"Yes! Everyone is so nice to me, and the work is fun..."
He was still a bit awkward around Taejun. Although his social skills had clearly improved compared to before, Yunjae was still extremely shy. As he fidgeted, Taejun smiled warmly.
"I'm glad to hear that. But Akemi told me you're taking on too much work."
"Ah! Akemi did?!"
In truth, Akemi had disliked the Support Part giving Yunjae work from the very beginning. So it was somewhat expected, but the recent incident had left Yunjae looking rather downcast.
"It's not a bad thing. The Support Part's efficiency has improved immensely."
"Yes! Thank you!"
Yunjae nodded, his expression lighting up at the praise.
"But if things continue like this, other employees will inevitably lose their jobs."
"Ah!"
"If one person can handle everything, there's no need to pay others. It's a matter of efficiency."
"How could that be..."
He had never imagined that being too good at his job would cause such a problem!
"Then, my office romance with an OL..."
