The Otaku Holy Land and the Accidental Voice Chat Blunder
The VTuber said, “Japan?”
“A big commission came in from Japan. Apparently from one of their major guilds.”
“Huh? Can’t the people from the Haeyeon Guild just go?”
I had no idea if they were short on manpower or what, but sending someone as clueless as this seemed risky. “Their guild went through a major reshuffle because of that drug incident, so they’re short-staffed.”
“……”
So it’s my fault. I feel bad for Auntie now.
“Want to come with me, oppa? They said I can bring one acquaintance.”
“When?”
“Next month? I’ll know the exact date once more time passes.”
Hmm…
Next month would be early July. That was right around when the new raid would drop, so the timing felt awkward.
A little disappointing…
Seong-a rested her chin on her hand, deep in thought. Japan—the holy land of otakus. A country overflowing with figures and merch, an absolute must-visit for anyone who loved anime.
“Hey, while you’re there, I’ll give you a list. Buy me some figures and goods.”
“What? That sounds annoying. Why do I have to do that too?”
“Just buy them while I’m still asking nicely.”
Since when did a little sister get to refuse her older brother’s request?
While we were talking, Manager Lee and my maternal grandfather came out of the room, and Mrs. Kim and my maternal grandmother emerged from the bathroom. After that, everyone headed back to their own homes. I collapsed into bed and fell asleep.
Ugh… I’m so tired…
After several days of eight-hour streams with barely any sleep, going all the way to my maternal grandparents’ house had completely drained me.
I’ll have to turn on the stream tomorrow too…
If I kept streaming every single day like this, I was going to burn out first. I needed to schedule a proper break later.
A day passed, and I turned on the stream.
The Gojadan, exhausted from five straight days of eight-hour raid streams, were staging a protest. How dare they.
“Hey, I already told you. I need to do closed-door training.”
Tch!
The backlash was stronger than I expected. I needed to stabilize public opinion a bit.
“Okay, okay, I get it. I’ll play something else today.”
Seeing them so happy was honestly a little pitiful. I was planning to raid all day tomorrow anyway.
“Any games you guys recommend?”
The Gojadan split into the AOS faction and the FPS faction. The chat reactions were so evenly divided that neither side clearly dominated. In times like these, the best choice was to follow my gut.
“Hmm… I’ll go with FPS.”
“I’ll try Hole later.”
I soothed the users who wanted Hole. If I had nothing else to do later, I’d probably play it.
“So what’s the most popular FPS game right now?”
If it were an AOS game, Hole would have come to mind immediately, but there were way too many FPS titles. Plus, the games I knew were from eight years ago, so the chance they were still played was low.
Valorant, huh…
Every single viewer was recommending Valorant. I downloaded the game based on their suggestion and launched it.
“What kind of game is this?”
“Wow, that explanation was complete garbage. Don’t explain anymore.”
Even giving terrible explanations was apparently a talent. I entered the tutorial, picked a gun that suited me, and fired a few shots.
“Hmm, so it feels something like this…”
First I needed to adjust the sensitivity. Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to play at all. After that I took a quick look at the agents. Each one had very clear strengths and weaknesses. Deciding which to use was tricky.
“Which one is the most overpowered?”
Picking from chat was giving me a headache, so I just went with the one I liked most.
“Ugh, I have to spend money.”
Too lazy to pick one by one, I just clicked “Select All” and bought everything. The first character I chose was Reyna. It was easiest to think of her as a duelist position. I tested her skills and ultimate in the tutorial and figured out how they worked.
“So it feels roughly like this.”
“I’ll try the others later.”
Since I was only playing today anyway, there was no need. After that I checked what skills the other characters had and took a detailed look at the maps.
“Alright, let’s jump in right away.”
They say strike while the iron is hot, so I hit match and locked in Reyna. The map was one of the early ones. As soon as the game started, everyone headed to A site.
For the first fight we had to use pistols by default.
“More or less.”
“Watch and then talk.”
I didn’t understand why they wouldn’t believe me. Memorizing a map only took five seconds.
The game started and everyone quietly engaged the enemies. I did the same.
“One down for now.”
When the opponent died, a black orb appeared. The moment I picked it up, I turned semi-transparent. Since I was in that state, I immediately began checking.
Two enemies around the right curve.
I flashed their vision and rushed in, landing my shots.
“How’s that?”
The game continued, and our team won the first round easily.
ATTACKERS WIN!
『Reyna, nice.』
At that moment, Sova complimented me in a pretty voice through the mic.
The viewers seemed quite surprised to hear a female voice. Judging by her way of speaking, she was probably Japanese.
“Uh… what do I do in this situation?”
Since I received a compliment, should I respond?
I hesitated for a moment. It was my first time talking to a Japanese person, but I gathered my courage and turned on my mic.
“…Sona-san.”
『Hai!』
“Um, well, that is…”
I didn’t know what to say, so I just pulled out the first Japanese word I could remember.
“Sona-san… you’re… saikyo!”
『Eh?』
“……”
Embarrassment flooded over me and I immediately turned off my mic. This was the first time my face had ever turned this red.
“…I did well, right?”
“No, I gave it my best!”
They clearly didn’t understand how much courage it took for an introvert to turn on their game mic. While I was feeling embarrassed, one viewer sent a donation.
ㅇㅇ donated 1,000 won
That Sova is a famous Japanese VTuber
“Huh? A VTuber?”
According to the viewer, she was a VTuber from a famous agency with over two million subscribers. There was no comparison to someone like me with only a thousand viewers.
“…This is a little worrying.”
“Anyone can see this as me riding her coattails.”
There couldn’t be many people in the world who liked it when someone they liked got leeched off of. I hoped I wouldn’t end up with over 999 daily hate comments like when I streamed with Monster Two.
Oh well—
“I’ll turn my mic off and keep playing.”
“Yeah, yeah, you guys go grow your own streams.”
I liked things the way they were now. Chatting casually with about a thousand viewers was already more than I deserved. The game continued, and before long the score reached 12:11.
“You damn bastards!”
Bang!
I slammed my desk. It was so unfair. I blocked enemy vision! I left them at low health! I got at least one kill every round! I did everything!
“Why can’t you finish them!”
If we lost one more round it would go to overtime. If we lost like this I felt like I would rage-quit. To prevent that, we had to win!
The game continued, and soon the only ones left on our team were Sona-san and me. Thankfully the enemy team was in the same situation.
Can we win…!
The opponents only had two left as well, but they knew our positions. We only had one skill left each.
『Reyna, watashi wa B ikimasu.』
It looked like Sova was going to attack from behind. Wait, there was an uneasy feeling around B site…
“Sona-san! Sokomateda!”
『Hai? Etto….』
Sova turned toward me in surprise. In that moment, enemies appeared from behind.
Damn it…!
I urgently used my skill to block their vision. This was our only chance.
[Reyna → Houhou]
[Reyna → Omen]
FLAWLESS PLAY!
Thankfully the few bullets didn’t miss and hit the enemies. The game ended 13 to 11 in our victory.
Most guys would probably get destroyed…
Hume-chan, the popular beautiful-girl combat android currently gaining massive popularity in mainland Japan. Currently 2.36 million subscribers. Numerous collaborations with famous games. Why on earth did someone like her end up playing with the Final King?
This guy just learned Japanese from anime lololol
Right now everyone in Hume’s stream is asking who that Korean with the nice voice is.
