If You Disagree, You're Right
As soon as I got home after finishing the guild work, I turned on the stream. The moment the broadcast started, the viewers spammed fire emojis like crazy.
Wow, it felt warm. I didn’t even need a winter heater. “Hey everyone, did you wait long?”
“Aww, come on. It’s my channel, isn’t it? Do I really need your permission for something like this?”
The chat burst into flames again. Looked like this winter was going to be nice and toasty. “Everyone, calm down, calm down. That’s why I came prepared with some content, didn’t I?”
“Of course not.” Who did they think I was, some kind of slacker? Sure, I turned the stream on mostly to avoid Mrs. Kim’s glare, but if I was going to do it, I might as well have fun. I pressed a key and brought up the site I’d prepared.
“Today we’re making an anime tier list!” The content I’d prepared this time was ranking anime. And no, I wasn’t just copying what other streamers were doing lately.
“That’s why I wrote it in the title, remember?”
I had no choice but to write that to avoid the Gald Cup.
“Yeah, yeah, I’ll be the coward, okay?” They had no idea how terrifying community otakus could be. Every single one of them was dead serious about anime. If their favorite show ended up in a low tier… the moment a post like [This guy doesn’t know shit about anime, look at this trash tier list] went up, the Gald Cup would open and coordinates would rain down. Being a coward was the safer choice.
“First, let me explain the criteria. We’ll be judging based on foundational strength, normie appeal, and cultural impact.”
Foundational strength meant how much it had built the bedrock of the anime world. Normie appeal meant whether normies would understand it if you mentioned it. Cultural impact meant how much influence it had on the anime industry. I planned to combine these three scores to assign tiers.
“This is a subjective tier list, so please don’t get too obsessed, okay?”
After saying that much, most of them probably caught on. I moved the mouse cursor.
“Let’s start by placing the S-tiers.”
One by one, I put JinO, SlamO, SteelO, and DeathO into S-tier. They were all anime that had been with me through my school days.
The viewers didn’t seem to have any complaints about these four. But we weren’t done yet.
“Now it’s time to decide the number one.”
“No way. There can only be one throne.”
Tied for first? Forget that nice-guy nonsense. Just like there’s no such thing as a tied number one on music charts, there would be no ties in this tier list either. I closed my eyes for a moment and thought. From here on, it was all about personal taste. The mouse cursor moved across Attack on Titan, Slam Dunk, Jin, and Death Note in that order.
“If you haven’t seen them, you really should. They’re all masterpieces. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say they laid the foundation of anime history.” Even complete normies who knew nothing about anime would recognize at least one if you named any of these.
“Now that we’ve set the Four Emperors, it’s time to decide the Four Heavenly Kings.” Just like in One Piece, only three could be in the Four Heavenly Kings category, which meant only twelve anime could make it into A-tier. Once again, my mouse cursor moved almost on its own.
The anime placed in A-tier were these: Magi, ShuO, PerO, SaO, InuO, Whisper of the Heart, Cowboy Bebop, Hunter x Hunter, Evangelion, Suzumiya Haruhi, Gurren Lagann, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. These were also anime that had accompanied me through my school years.
“What do you think? The foundational strength is absolutely overflowing, right?”
A few viewers voiced disagreements with my tier list. Well, that was fine. Everyone had their own tastes, and tastes should be respected. To the viewers who were complaining, I gave a single reply.
“Sorry, but this is a relative evaluation.”
This era was one of infinite competition. Now even anime had to compete. No matter how many more anime deserved to be in A-tier, there were only twelve spots.
“Ahem, did you forget the title says if you disagree, you’re right?” This was, after all, a subjective tier list. Got a problem? Too bad. Go make your own. Then one comment caught my eye.
“Good question. The anime industry only runs properly when normies are the ones consuming it.” There’s a common misunderstanding. When anime is made, the main target audience isn’t otakus. Otakus will buy figures and merch of their favorite characters no matter what. The important ones were the damn normies. Whether something was a masterpiece or a flop didn’t matter to them. The only thing that mattered was whether it was ‘trendy.’ It had to be trendy for normies to consume it and then call themselves otakus for fun.
‘That’s why I got ripped off so many times back in school…!’ Even thinking about it now made me angry. All the normies and bullies would throw around terms like Fullmetal Alchemist, Rasengan, and Bankai at me, but not a single one of them actually knew what the anime was about. If you’re gonna use it, at least know what it means!!!
I spent several hours preaching my anime philosophy to the viewers. They kept telling me to stop, but there was no way I would. This was something future generations absolutely needed to hear.
Important Notes:
1. Evaluated based on three criteria: Foundational Strength, Normie Appeal, and Cultural Impact
2. This is a relative evaluation
3. Mostly older anime. Strictly limited to titles from about 8 years ago

Looking at the list, they’re all old anime. Especially all the isekai stuff is B-tier or lower.
Why the hell is Code Geass in B?! ‘Remember this.’ It’s Code Geass! Don’t you know that?!!!
How can our anime tastes overlap this much?! This is destiny!

Everyone go check out our Chuwang at least once.
Judging by the curfew, she seems to have grown up with pretty conservative parents. The lack of exaggerated reactions makes her different from those female cams who only care about money. The fact that she doesn’t care about recent anime suggests she herself is somewhat conservative. The fact that she knows so much about anime means she probably doesn’t go outside and just watches anime all day. Plus she’s good at cooking. I estimate she probably dropped out of school and received bride training from her mother. How could a girl like this not be a virgin?!!!!! I hereby swear on this spot that I will support the theory that Chuwang is a virgin from now on!!! If you disagree, you’re wrong.
I’m confident I could love her even if she isn’t a virgin.
