Chapter 009: He Saw Her Alive
Chapter 009: He Saw Her Alive
“This Brad Pitt seems a little taller than Eric, and he’s somewhat older?” After Brad Pitt, the last auditioning actor, walked out of the room, the audition paused for a while, and James Brooks began discussing things with the other people in charge.
Penny Marshall said, “Yes. Number seven, Blake Quinn, is pretty good.”
The other people in charge also expressed their own opinions.
Eric looked at number seven’s profile. He was a seventeen-year-old blond white youth, 170 centimeters tall and somewhat thin. He did indeed match Alex’s image from Eric’s previous life very well, but he was not what Eric wanted.
Eric could not help speaking. “Penny, I think Blake Quinn looks too weak. Although he fits the image of a bullied high school student in the early part of the film, in the later part of the film, having such a thin boy show his talent on the basketball court would feel very abrupt. It would give the audience a false feeling. I just graduated from high school, so I know very well that this kind of frail boy couldn’t appear on a high school basketball team, much less be noticed by a scout.”
Hearing Eric’s analysis, James Brooks also nodded in agreement. “That’s true. Eric, which actor do you think would work?”
“How about Brad Pitt?”
Penny Marshall said, “But Brad Pitt is even a little taller than you.”
Eric shrugged. “Height isn’t a problem. Children being taller than their parents is very common. Besides, his image can make Alex’s contrast before and after the change feel less abrupt.”
James asked, “How so?”
“First, let’s establish that there’s no problem with Brad Pitt’s acting. Although he hasn’t starred in any films, he has acted in quite a few TV dramas, and his audition just now was also good. So he can fully show Alex’s inferiority complex and cowardly personality in the early part of the film. Later, after Mike encourages and trains him, he bravely shows himself and pursues the girl he likes. Look, he already has that kind of potential. When it bursts out, the audience won’t feel it’s fake. Instead, they’ll feel, oh, this is exactly who Alex is!”
The people around them all nodded in agreement with Eric’s view. Eric could see that James Brooks was also somewhat tempted, but he did not decide immediately. Instead, he said, “Alright, we’ll discuss this issue again later. Let’s begin the actresses’ auditions next.”
The first to audition was naturally Angelina Jolie. The girl answered questions gracefully and confidently. However, when it came to performing, her performance was not ideal. It was full of the exaggerated style of stage acting, nearly dragging Eric, who was acting opposite her, into a ditch as well.
If Eric had full authority over casting, he might have given Jolie a small role to try. After all, collecting future superstars in his own film would still be very interesting. Unfortunately, at this moment, he did not have much say.
After several more girls, Drew Barrymore walked in.
She had her iconic sweet doll face. Her upper body was dressed in a white cropped tank top, and the black straps of her bra appeared and disappeared from time to time with Drew’s movements. Below, she wore a white pleated skirt that reached her knees, revealing a stretch of fair calves, and black leather boots on her feet.
If one only looked at her appearance, she was merely a slightly precocious, invincible young beauty. No one would associate her at all with words like alcoholism or drug abuse.
After sitting down on the chair opposite them, Drew Barrymore smoothed the hair in front of her forehead. She noticed Eric, the young man sitting among several middle-aged men and women in their forties and fifties. Because the comparison group was simply too poor, his sharply defined young face looked exceptionally handsome in her eyes.
The corners of Drew’s red lips lifted into a charming faint smile, and she very naturally threw Eric a flirtatious glance. That kind of charm, which absolutely did not belong to a girl of her age, made Eric’s heart tremble slightly.
James and the others all frowned at the same time and looked at Eric. Eric looked back innocently. Hey, why are you glaring at me? I’m innocent. I was the one being flirted with, alright?
