Chapter 337: I Have Experience in This Area
Earlier, Eric had only briefly glanced over the story synopsis before tossing the script aside. It was only after hearing Charlie Walker say that Warner Bros. had offered a one-million-dollar salary that Eric carefully read through the script again.
“Mr. Walker, I don’t see any standout points in this movie. To be honest, the story feels somewhat scattered, and the central theme is rather vague. The depiction of family affection is very weak. Instead, it spends a large amount of time detailing how the female lead is forced to cooperate with criminals in order to gather a sum of money. Although the portrayal of the heroine’s psychological transformation is barely passable, those scenes instead dilute the parent-child affection the author originally wanted to express. Or perhaps the scriptwriter wanted to present both themes at once, but if that’s the case, then it becomes even more muddled.”
After finishing the script, Eric instinctively began commenting on it.
Charlie Walker listened seriously to Eric’s evaluation.
Opportunities like this were rare. Any producer from the Seven Major Studios would probably be willing to pay a considerable price just to hear Eric’s guidance on scripts. Although Charlie Walker was currently only an agent, the future was uncertain. It was very common in the industry for agents to transition into producers or studio executives. In fact, one could say that an agent who did not aspire to become a producer was not a good agent.
After Eric finished speaking, Charlie Walker nodded.
“Mr. Williams, what you said makes a lot of sense. However, the film hasn’t started shooting yet. I believe that with just one phone call from you, Warner Bros. would definitely be very willing to cooperate in revising the script.”
Eric smiled faintly at Charlie Walker.
“That’s certainly true. But I have no obligation to help Warner Bros. revise any scripts. It’s getting late, Mr. Walker. I think it’s time for you to leave.”
“Mr. Williams, why not at least hear Miss Pakula’s opinion? This is a one-million-dollar salary. How many actresses in Hollywood can get paid that much?”
“My opinion is Joan’s opinion, Mr. Walker.”
Eric stood up and made a gesture indicating the meeting was over.
Charlie Walker packed up the scripts and rose helplessly, though he still could not stop himself from saying:
“Mr. Williams, if you really like Miss Pakula, then you should think more about her future. She’s an actress. She should be making movies, not staying here helping you… wash clothes.”
Eric raised an eyebrow.
“Mr. Walker, if you feel this is unfair, I can call ICM right now and ask Mr. Marvin Joseph to replace you.”
Hearing that, Charlie Walker immediately realized he had spoken impulsively.
Eric’s current status was not something a small-time agent like him could challenge.
“Sorry, I lost my composure, Mr. Williams. Then I’ll take my leave.”
“It’s fine,” Eric waved a hand. “Mr. Walker, Joan will become a first-tier star sooner or later. But that requires patience.”
“I suppose so.”
After saying goodbye, Charlie Walker picked up his briefcase and left Eric’s room.
Just as Charlie Walker arrived at the elevator entrance, he saw Joanna Pakula walking out of the elevator carrying several freshly washed clothes.
“So it’s you, Mr. Walker. Are you leaving?” Joanna greeted him.
Charlie Walker looked at the glamorous woman and briefly considered trying to persuade her. But remembering what Eric had just said, the agent quickly abandoned the thought.
If he succeeded in stirring trouble, Eric would definitely settle accounts with him afterward. By then, whether he would still remain Joanna’s agent was uncertain, let alone earning commission from her salaries.
“Yes, Miss Pakula. We’ve finished discussing things,” Charlie Walker nodded. Then he took out a business card and handed it to her. “By the way, this is my card. All my contact information is on it. If you ever need help with anything, feel free to contact me anytime.”
Joanna Pakula accepted the card and slipped it into her pocket, then pointed toward Eric’s room.
“Then I’ll head back.”
“Goodbye, then.”
Another elevator door opened, and Charlie Walker quickly stepped inside, waving to Joanna.
Returning to the room, Joanna saw Eric sitting on the sofa with a sketchpad resting on his knees, rapidly drawing on it with a pencil in hand.
When he looked up and saw Joanna enter, Eric said, “Actually, you could just leave these things to the hotel staff.”
“But before, you said you didn’t like the smell of the detergent they use,” the woman replied.
She sat beside Eric on the sofa and lifted one of the shirts in front of him.
“Smell it. Lemon scent.”
Eric lowered his head and sniffed the shirt, then immediately changed targets and buried his face near the woman’s neck.
“Mm, smells very nice.”
Joanna shrank her neck slightly and tried to push the man away reproachfully, but Eric tossed the sketchpad aside and directly pulled her into his arms, falling together onto the sofa.
“Eric, not here. I think I forgot to lock the door just now. What happened when Drew saw us the other day was embarrassing enough.”
Eric did not make any excessive moves. He merely held Joanna and kissed her face.
“I just rejected all the scripts your agent brought over during this period. One of them even offered a one-million-dollar salary.”
Joanna’s expression froze.
Her gaze flickered a few times, but she quickly relaxed again.
If not for Eric, forget a one-million-dollar salary—even a hundred thousand dollars would never have been offered to her. Although missing out on one million dollars inevitably made her feel disappointed, Joanna quickly adjusted her mindset again.
She understood that Eric was her greatest support.
“Eric, I’ll follow your arrangements,” the woman said after only a brief hesitation.
Eric could not help kissing her beautiful eyes, feeling her long eyelashes tremble slightly.
“That was one million dollars, you know. You’re really not angry?”
Only after feeling the man’s lips leave her eyes did Joanna open them again.
Looking at Eric’s faintly teasing expression, she rarely revealed a trace of grievance and coquettishness in her tone. Her pretty face drooped honestly.
“I’m angry. That was a million dollars. My chest feels a little tight just thinking about it.”
“Wow, that’s serious. Let me take a look.”
Eric joked as his large hand slipped beneath the hem of Joanna’s long-sleeved T-shirt, traveling upward along her smooth skin. After pushing aside her bra, his palm settled over the soft fullness on her left side.
“Will rubbing it make it feel better?”
Feeling the movement of the hand on her chest, the woman’s eyes soon became misty with desire, yet she still replied:
“No. It still feels terrible.”
Eric stood up directly, lifting the woman into his arms as he walked toward the bedroom.
“Looks like more intense treatment is necessary to cure this. I have experience in this area.”
