Chapter 324: A Classic Scene
Chapter 324: A Classic Scene
Half an hour later, inside another makeup room, Diane Lane sat in a chair with both excitement and nervousness in her heart, allowing the makeup artist to rapidly adjust her eyebrows, eyes, and hairstyle.
Several staff members circled around her, while Eric, standing on the outer side, occasionally instructed the makeup artist on what to do.
This realistic situation made Diane Lane realize that she was truly about to get the female lead role in Basic Instinct. Although the scale of this movie was somewhat excessive and would definitely have a major impact on her future screen image—
This was still an Eric Williams film.
Even though he was not personally directing this movie and only carried the producer title, as long as Eric’s name appeared in the screenplay credits, nobody would treat this movie as someone else’s work.
Thinking about all those actresses who had become wildly famous through Eric’s films, Diane Lane could not help feeling excited.
“Mr. Williams, what do you think? Is this alright?” The stylist quickly swept a powder brush across Diane Lane’s face before straightening up and asking.
Eric walked over to the woman and carefully examined her for a moment before shaking his head. “No. Make the eyebrows thicker and straighter. The lips are too sexy. I don’t want sexy.”
“You want her to look more masculine?” the stylist asked cautiously.
“Of course not. The female lead is still a woman, just not that kind of sexy woman.”
The stylist frowned and thought for a while. As a top-tier stylist in the industry, he had seen all kinds of strange demands from major directors, so he did not feel impatient with Eric’s words. A moment later, he quickly resumed adjusting Diane Lane’s makeup.
The woman’s eyebrows became slightly thicker, while her originally sensual upper lip was softened considerably. Once he finished, the stylist cautiously looked toward Eric again.
Eric nodded slightly. Then he turned around. “Has the dress I sketched out been made yet?”
“Almost done,” a staff member responded. “Three minutes.”
“Hurry up,” Eric called out before turning toward Diane Lane. “Mr. Don Johnson will be arriving soon. I’ll need the two of you to perform several more scenes together. Go prepare yourself first.”
Diane Lane carefully stood up, seemingly afraid of disturbing the hairstyle that had just been finished. She nodded, accepted several pages of script handed over by a staff member, then walked to the sofa in the corner and quietly began reading through them. The previously noisy people around her also unconsciously lowered their voices.
“Mr. Williams, the dress is ready.” An assistant brought over a white dress and displayed it. “Is this alright?”
“It’ll do,” Eric said as he accepted it. He walked to the sofa and handed the dress to the woman. “Go put this on. Wear only this when you come out. Try to fully understand Catherine Tramell’s mindset. Although your chances are very high, if the effect isn’t good enough, I don’t mind replacing you.”
“No problem,” the woman nodded. Although Eric’s request for her to audition without underwear was somewhat embarrassing, she did not refuse. She accepted the dress and walked toward the changing room.
…
“You just said you liked men using their hands, didn’t you?” Don Johnson aggressively questioned in front of the camera.
Diane Lane wore a calm and confident smile as she replied evenly, “No. I said I liked Johnny using his hands. I don’t make the rules, Nick. I like things to happen naturally.”
“You killed Mr. Boz, didn’t you?” an assistant read out the line.
The woman leaned forward slightly and replied with faint mockery, “I’m not stupid enough to kill someone using the method from my own book, then announce myself as the murderer. I’m not an idiot.”
“We know you’re not that stupid. Maybe that’s exactly how you planned to get away with it?”
“Write a book as an excuse,” Don Johnson added.
Diane Lane immediately turned toward Don Johnson with a smile. “Of course. That’s actually pretty good.”
After finishing that line with a smile, the woman quickly became serious again, as though the previous sentence had merely been a joke. Looking toward the others opposite her, she said, “I already told you. I didn’t kill him.”
“Did you ever do drugs with Mr. Boz?”
“Of course.”
“What kind?”
“Cocaine. Nick, have you ever done cocaine?” the woman looked at Don Johnson again and asked with faint flirtation.
After she said that, the room fell briefly silent.
The most talked-about scene in Basic Instinct appeared inside the audition room.
Diane Lane had clearly entered the role. Following the script she had just read, she unconsciously crossed her legs. Jeffrey, who had been sitting opposite her drinking from a glass of water, instantly sprayed the water in his mouth when he saw the “view” before him.
That interruption broke Diane Lane out of character. She hurriedly covered her skirt with one hand, though there was not much embarrassment on her face. Instead, she boldly looked toward Eric sitting opposite her.
Eric had definitely seen beneath her skirt just now.
Eric coughed twice lightly. Diane Lane’s ability to completely let go satisfied him greatly. Thus, he quickly said, “Very good. Congratulations, Miss Diane Lane. You passed the audition.”
“Thank you for your approval, Mr. Williams. I’ll definitely work hard,” the woman straightened her back and thanked him somewhat reservedly.
Eric nodded, then turned toward Roger Spottiswoode. “Now that the female lead has been finalized, I’ll be heading to New York tomorrow. This film will be entirely handed over to you and Jeffrey. According to the normal production schedule, this movie would take three months to complete, but I want the production cycle compressed to within two months. The film releases in three months, and we need to reserve one month for promotion.”
“I’ll do my best,” Roger Spottiswoode nodded.
“I don’t want to hear words like ‘do my best.’ I need a one hundred percent guarantee. The budget for this film can still be increased appropriately. What I need is for it to be completed on time while maintaining the film’s quality.”
Roger Spottiswoode felt a wave of pressure. However, thinking about how Eric still had to finish Ghost before this, and that movie reportedly required special effects while Basic Instinct did not, he figured that after surviving in Hollywood for so many years, he could not possibly lose to a young man.
“I guarantee it. I’ll definitely finish it on schedule,” Roger Spottiswoode said without hesitating long.
Eric nodded and shook hands with Roger Spottiswoode. “This is unavoidable, Roger. You know I wasted several months because of what happened earlier this year. I have to strike back and show certain people that they can’t hinder me in the slightest. So if you can complete this film well, we’ll definitely continue working together in the future.”
