Prologue: This Isn't Fantasy
This is not a story from a fantasy world.
It is set in the perfectly ordinary world we all live in.
In the newspapers, politicians and pundits hold forth about this and that, while on the far side of this country, weapons that fire gunpowder are being unleashed in every form imaginable—the kind of ordinary world where that simply happens.
But I, who live in that world, am not an ordinary person.
And—
"Hmm? Why are you looking at me like that?"
"…"
The girl sitting beside me right now, watching me with that vacant little smile, isn't an ordinary person either.
This story is simply the day-to-day of a colossal creature that once had no purpose at all, and of a certain girl who walked right up to that creature without the slightest hesitation—the ordinary days they live, one after another.
