Not a Hack, Not a Proxy
I spent the afternoon hanging out with Seoyeon and came home. Since she returned from Konoe, she’s been walking around with a big smile on her face the entire time we’ve been together.
I also went to karaoke for the first time in a while, and it seemed like I was enjoying it way more than expected.
My singing skill has skyrocketed compared to when I was in the original world, so the joy of singing is off the charts.
In the past, even if I sang with perfect timing, I couldn’t reach high notes without straining my voice and screaming. Now I can go up to high notes smoothly, and it feels like I’m singing well even though I’m the one singing.
The notes came out a bit differently in places than what I know, but since the notes are shown on the screen in karaoke, it wasn’t a big problem.
At the end, Seoyeon and I finished by singing a duet song together. She had said she wanted to sing a duet with me once, right? We chose a duet song we both knew, and since Seoyeon sings pretty well too, it felt like an amateur singer concert.
We added harmonies appropriately when the other was singing.
Since Seoyeon enjoyed it, I had fun too.
Now that tomorrow’s the sad reality of returning to the weekday routine, to enjoy the weekend as much as possible, I sat in front of the computer and immediately logged into Overwatch.
If I had been playing with her regularly, I would have hit gold or higher by now, but I haven’t been able to because of work, meeting Hyeji and Seoyeon, and letting Sujin noona in.
I need to get back to my original position, Geuma, quickly!
At first, it bothered me a bit that I started in bronze, but now I’m enjoying it with more fun than I thought.
There’s the fun of climbing ranks one by one, and the feeling of beating opponents whose skills don’t match is surprisingly enjoyable.
Sometimes people would say “thank you for the bus” in chat, or even ask to duo with voice chat. All of them were women.
Well, it’s based on people who use voice chat, but I haven’t seen any men playing Overwatch. Is it that they don’t use voice chat to not reveal they’re men like me?
In the original world, there were quite a few women playing Overwatch, but here, is it that it’s not even that, or are they all hiding it tightly?
Ah, what if I search?
I immediately searched on the internet if it’s okay to reveal that I’m a man in Overwatch, and the related articles were mostly negative.
Hmm… In a way, it seems no different from the original world where I lived…
There were crazy people doing crazy things like that in the original world too. Maybe here it’s even worse than what I think.
Then, thinking about hiding that I’m a man as much as possible, shall I play the game?
I was in the training ground, loosening up my hands, when I connected to Overwatch.
- MyDreamMineralEscape: Hi high rank oppa!
A whisper came from the in-game streamer Seoyeon. Is she trying to duo again today?
But if I climb to gold soon, it might be hard to duo with her. That person should climb to silver soon too.
- WlrTkqjflrlrhtn: Hi hi
- MyDreamMineralEscape: Are you in rank game right now?
- WlrTkqjflrlrhtn: No, I just came in and I’m loosening up in the training ground
- MyDreamMineralEscape: Oh, good. If you have a bit of time, is it okay? I have something to talk about
Talk about? What is she going to say?
For now, while loosening up in the training ground, I duoed with Seoyeon.
“Ah, ah! Do you hear my voice, high rank oppa?”
- WlrTkqjflrlrhtn: Yeah
Seoyeon’s voice came through the headset, and it feels exactly like the Seoyeon I met outside today. It’s like hearing the voice I listened to all afternoon while being stuck with her, now through the headset again.
Moreover, the streamer name is the same.
Is it possible that the Seoyeon in reality right now and the Seoyeon streamer are the same person?
No way.
Is it possible that I met the Seoyeon outside after duoing in Overwatch the next day, and we knew each other because we went to the same university and live close by?
Where’s the coincidence like that~
No matter how I think about it, it doesn’t make sense.
Probably it’s just someone with a similar name and voice.
While answering Seoyeon, I entered Twitch to watch her stream. Huh? Her channel isn’t live right now.
- WlrTkqjflrlrhtn: Are you not streaming right now?
“Yes, because what I’m going to talk about is for defamation, not anything else. I edited the duo I had with you into a YouTube video and uploaded it. Your skills are really amazing, so the views are quite good too.”
Ah, so she made a video of the time we duoed. I immediately went to Seoyeon’s channel on YouTube and found that the recent video was the one where we duoed.
But she’s not saying this to me… Is there something she wants from me?
“However, if you look at the video comments, you’ll see that there are a lot of comments saying that you used hacks or that you’re a proxy. There are people fighting while commenting on the replies too.”
Hearing Seoyeon’s words, looking at the video comments, they were really fighting hard against each other for those reasons.
It’s not like I don’t understand why this reaction is coming. From the previous records, the person who was a complete bug suddenly has overwhelmingly improved skills like a crazy person and is carrying.
Looking at the flow of the comments, at first they were saying “used hacks”, then after seeing my aim, they changed to “not using hacks”, then it became likely that she’s using a proxy.
“I’m sorry for making you get unexpected insults by uploading videos of you appearing… I didn’t know this would happen either.”
Even the voice alone sent a sorry feeling through the headset.
“So, as long as you’re okay with it… Shall we film another video? To prove that you didn’t use hacks or proxies!”
- WlrTkqjflrlrhtn: ???
I could accept the apology, but I didn’t think she’d ask to make a proof video too. I thought I’d have to say to apologize and take down the video.
“I think you absolutely, absolutely didn’t use any improper methods, right? Like… it hits the spot! I knew from the moment I first met you!”
- WlrTkqjflrlrhtn: …Didn’t you call me a jinx or something at the beginning?
“Ahh! I have to forget about the small stuff, oppa. It’s not important, I have to prove that the oppa in the video is the real deal!”
This person is deflecting because she’s embarrassed. Well, anyway, I don’t like being belittled on my own skills.
- WlrTkqjflrlrhtn: Then what do you plan to do?
“As long as you’re okay with it, you can meet me and prove your skills directly on my stream. You don’t need to show your face, hand cam is enough.”
Hearing Seoyeon’s words, I paused for a moment.
Seoyeon’s proposed method is extremely appropriate, and to prove my skills, doing it that way is correct.
The problem is that I have to go out and meet that person.
Then I would reveal that I’m a man, right? And even if I don’t show my face and only hand cam, among the viewers or people watching on YouTube, there will definitely be someone who figures out I’m a man.
That’s a bit troublesome…
“What do you think, oppa? This way, it seems like you can prove your skills.”
- WlrTkqjflrlrhtn: Yeah, but meeting directly is a bit daunting for me
“Ah, are you living in a different region? Then it would be hard to meet right away…”
Actually, I could have said not to upload the video without proving skills, but the problem is that quite a lot of people have already watched Seoyeon’s video.
Maybe someone who saw the video and reported my account saying I used a proxy has already done it. If I get banned for proxy, it’s too bad.
The reason I want to keep using this account is because I didn’t want to create a new ID.
I might need to prove my skills before getting banned?
Then, in the end, I would have to reveal to that person that I’m a man. Do I have to accept that?
- WlrTkqjflrlrhtn: I’m not in a different region, I live in Seoul, but there’s another problem
Ah, huh?
High rank oppa, or should I call you high rank oppa?
The moment I saw that person reading my private chat, my head went blank.
A woman thinking I’m a man? The aim that followed my movements well, the skills and ultimate that are used at perfect timing, all of them were being used by a man?
Wow, I didn’t imagine this. That the person is a man…
But rather, it might be good?
A person who is showing off such tremendous skills that everyone thinks is a proxy is actually a man?!
This is perfect, a perfect YouTube angle!
If this man appears on the stream, the aggro will be huge.
The problem is how to call him.
If I ask to meet just the two of us, he would definitely say no…
I have no intention of hitting on that man. There’s no reason to fall into the abyss in an instant.
Moreover, there are people I’m interested in lately…
Ah! This is the way.
If I ask to meet the man and woman, the high rank oppa would be burdened, so if I bring another man, he might feel a bit more at ease?
I immediately sent a KakaoTalk message to Minho.
It was good that I had to reveal that I’m a streamer anyway.
This way, I can naturally reveal it.
Then, the three of us — me, Minho, and that high rank oppa — can meet and prepare for the broadcast?
It’s a perfect plan!
Am I a bit of a genius? Hehe…
