Chapter 00076: Big Brother Demon, huh
# Big Brother Demon, huh?
Chapter 76
Novel: AFK Game: Portal to Another World
Chapter 76 Big Brother Demon, huh?
“What the heck, why is she rolling around?”
On Li Chengxi’s end, watching the chibi Viola rolling back and forth on the bedroom floor left him feeling utterly perplexed.
Could it be that his number one follower had come down with a case of hysteria?
He clicked open the quest panel, but there was no abnormal status notification for 'illness'.
He couldn't figure it out, he really couldn't.
Li Chengxi figured that Viola might have been under a lot of stress recently.
Every adult has their breaking point; letting off some steam was probably a good thing.
"Demon... Big Brother, what are you looking at?"
Big Brother Demon, huh?
Li Chengxi turned the laptop to face Audel.
“I’m watching Viola.”
"Oh, oh, oh! So this is how a god observes the mortal world, through a thin board like this? A new discovery!"
"Uh... I don't know about other gods, but I use a computer to observe things."
"Com... puter?"
Audel asked in confusion.
"You run electricity through some creature's brain?"
“…”
Perhaps drawing from her experience with the hair dryer, Audel took the word at its most literal meaning.
"It's actually a kind of machine, driven by electricity. Its computational power is much higher than a human brain's."
"I understand. It's a very high-end mechanical computer."
That wasn't entirely wrong.
The earliest automated computer was the difference engine; a computer just replaced mechanical calculations with circuit switches.
"I saw one in the City of Academics. A group of goblins brought their latest creation, but it was much bigger than this computer, and it exploded after running for two hours."
Goblin technology, right? Where explosions are an art form.
Then Audel's gaze returned to the screen, and she frowned.
"But how come I can only see a bunch of little squares of the same size?"
It seemed that even Audel, who had flown out of the game, saw the AAI game screen as if it were Minesweeper.
"I see, so only a god can observe the mortal world through this? I don't have a divine office or divine power, so of course I can't understand it. Mmm, this is a great discovery."
She immediately found a reason for herself.
Letting her guess seemed to save more trouble, since Li Chengxi couldn't really explain why either.
Audel quickly lost interest in the computer she couldn't understand and turned to walk toward the shelves.
“Big Brother, what is this?”
Li Chengxi was just about to do his usual check on the farmland by the city gate when he heard her and glanced over.
“Those are stockings.”
"Stockings? A type of sock?"
"Mhm, women here wear them. They come in different colors and patterns, like white, black, and nude."
"Oh, oh, oh! Can I try them on?"
"If you want to wear them, they're yours."
It was just a pair of stockings, not anything valuable.
Audel was very interested in trying new things.
She immediately pulled over a stool and sat down.
Following Li Chengxi’s instructions, she tore open the packaging and started pulling the stockings onto her leg.
Only then did Li Chengxi notice she had chosen a white pair.
As the stocking gradually covered Audel’s slender calf, it looked like a work of art.
"Hmm, it feels a bit strange, but it's not bad."
Audel stood up, put on her shoes, took a couple of steps, and then looked at Li Chengxi.
He quickly shifted his gaze back to the computer screen.
"Oh, oh, so it's not that I have no charm. You are interested in women after all."
Li Chengxi was so embarrassed he could have dug a four-bedroom apartment out of the floor with his toes.
He cleared his throat and changed the subject.
"I'm a little curious. You are all of the Demon Race, so why do you also use words like 'man' and 'woman'?"
"All intelligent creatures that possess both a soul and a physical body are mortals. For example, our Demon Race, the Dragonkin, the Tree Elves, and also the Harpies mentioned yesterday. Since mortals are divided by gender, it's natural to use the terms 'man' and 'woman'. Is there anything strange about that?"
Li Chengxi was just trying to change the topic, but after hearing Audel's explanation, he was a little puzzled.
"No humans?"
"Humans are already the stuff of legend. According to the stories from the Mythic Era, humans were sealed on the other side of the Final Great Chasm. I remember it was the Demon God himself who cast the seal. You are the new Demon God, so you probably don't know about these things."
This was the first time Li Chengxi had heard this piece of lore.
But then again, in terms of appearance, the so-called Demon Race didn't seem much different from humans.
Although some of the Demon Race had horns (like Viola), many did not.
The person in front of him, Audel, was a prime example.
If he had to point out a difference, it would be that the Demon Race had a wide variety of hair colors.
A hair color like Audel’s aqua-blue was unlikely to occur naturally unless it was dyed.
Seeing that Li Chengxi didn't press further, Audel continued to wander among the shelves.
Just as Li Chengxi was pondering the relationship between the Demon Race and humans in the game's lore, he suddenly felt something.
He looked up and saw Lei Lei pressed against the glass door, staring at the wandering Audel with an expression that was...
Hard to describe, but it looked like she was not to be trifled with.
Noticing that Li Chengxi had spotted her, Lei Lei simply pushed the door open and came in.
As she got closer, she lowered her voice.
"That woman from last night, she didn't do anything, did she?"
Li Chengxi understood at once.
Lei Lei was concerned about him.
She had rushed into the store yesterday because she was afraid something might have happened to him, which was why she was so hostile toward the transmigrated Audel.
It wasn't that Li Chengxi was being presumptive; it was mainly because his prior impression of Lei Lei was so good that he couldn't possibly think ill of her.
"It's fine, she's been well-behaved."
"That's good..."
Lei Lei relaxed a little, then said:
"Brother Li, are you free anytime soon?"
"Huh? Is this about the trip to the seaside again? I don't really want to go, and besides, Audel is still here at home."
"No, I have something else to ask you."
Taking out her phone, Lei Lei lit up the screen for Li Chengxi to see.
On the screen was a high school girl who looked about her age, smiling very sweetly.
"What do you think?"
"She's a very pretty young lady. What's up?"
"This is a friend of mine. Her name is Gan Xiaoyan, and she just transferred to our school recently."
"You're not trying to introduce her to me, are you? I may be single, but it hasn't come to this. I'm almost ten years older than you girls."
"No, she's been pestered by a boy in our class recently, and I was hoping you could help, Brother Li."
"You mean, you want me to pretend to be her boyfriend and act as a shield?"
"Mhm, that's what I mean."
To be honest, Li Chengxi felt a little guilty, as if he were bullying a child.
"I couldn't find any other male friends I could trust. That boy is always pestering us, and Gan Xiaoyan has already rejected him several times. A couple of days ago, she got so fed up with his pestering that she told him she already had a boyfriend, an adult who's already working, hoping to make him back off."
That approach wasn't flawed.
Schoolboys often have a certain fear of working adults.
"If you don't help, I think something bad might happen in the future. That boy is not someone to be trifled with."
"Weren't you the one who could break down a security door? Are you still afraid of him?"
It felt like Lei Lei could pry open that kid's skull with one hand.
"I can't use it. Unless it's an emergency, we're not allowed to display our abilities in front of people."
That was true.
He remembered Qian Sen mentioning it yesterday.
"Hmm... I don't have a problem with it, but I can't bring Audel along, can I? And I'm not comfortable leaving her home alone."
"No rush. We can talk about it again in a few days after she goes back."
As they were speaking in low voices, a tall figure walked in through the doorway, accompanied by a booming voice.
"Brother Li! You opened up so early today. Just in time, I was craving a cola this morning."
Li Chengxi had a sudden flash of insight.
Holy crap, the guy Lei Lei was talking about... could it be this kid, Xue Wenshu?
