Chapter 46: Unreal
When he opened the ability panel of the two newcomers, he saw that the blonde drill-haired one was named Wendy Pat Thor, with the title "Granddaughter of the Kingdom's General."
From the name, she was clearly a noble.
Li Chengxi had discovered that in the game, only nobles had surnames.
But her ability panel was really nothing special.
Her level was only 5, and her skill bar was empty.
Putting aside her peculiar clothing style, her stats were basically no different from the commoners walking the streets.
But the other one was completely different.
The one dressed in a butler's uniform was actually a woman in men’s clothing, named Reina.
Her level was an astonishing 37—much higher than Viola or even Zola, the captain of the Royal Guard.
Scrolling down her skill bar under the "Battle Techniques" section, it was packed full with nearly thirty skills.
It looked like she could probably take on that magic golem from before single-handedly without breaking a sweat.
She was the highest-level NPC Li Chengxi had seen so far.
Honestly, thinking of her as a humanoid golem wouldn't be far off.
These two suddenly showing up to find Viola felt a bit strange to Li Chengxi.
He tapped on Viola to bring up their conversation in the dialogue box.
After skimming through a few lines, he roughly pieced together that the two of them were trying to persuade Viola to come out of hiding.
Even though he still didn’t know much about the detailed mechanics behind the game, Li Chengxi understood Viola’s current situation and knew that the Avarus Demon Kingdom was facing invasion.
Someone taking the lead and organizing resistance would be completely different from everyone acting separately.
And personally, Li Chengxi hoped Viola would leave the Leon Territory.
The map still had tons of fog-of-war areas, and only through his followers’ movement could he uncover them.
The Leon Territory was just a tiny piece of the upper left corner of the huge world map.
He really wanted to see what the full map looked like.
Still, Li Chengxi wasn’t about to interfere in Viola’s decisions.
He didn’t understand anything about military strategy.
Getting involved without knowing what you’re doing—yeah, that’s asking for trouble.
Anyway, this whole game felt more like watching things happen than actively playing, more like an idle game.
Viola could handle it however she liked.
He glanced through their conversation for a bit, then quickly lost interest and switched the camera angle back to the city gate.
Viola had ordered the soldiers to open up a few plots of farmland here.
By now, the potatoes and white radishes had already sprouted.
The soybeans still needed some time, but they were coming along.
Druids really were amazing.
Normally, it would take more than half a month for potatoes and white radishes to sprout.
But under the care of the Druid, they were coming up in less than ten days.
Every day, all Li Chengxi really did was move the in-game camera and wander around, but without fail, one of his daily routines was checking in on the fields.
It gave him the same kind of vibe as playing Happy Farm back in the day.
And just when he moved the camera to the gate, he caught sight of a convoy of carriages escorted by soldiers entering the city.
They were loaded with treasure.
When Zola had gone treasure hunting with the map earlier, she’d traveled light and fast—grab-and-go style—and came back with just the Ring of the Demon King.
But that treasure chamber still had tons of gold and silver, and that obviously needed to be hauled back.
War costs money, and building things costs even more.
The fuller the national treasury, the better.
When he glanced at the top-right corner where the gold coin count was displayed, it had rocketed from the 2,000 coins he started with in the beginning of the game to more than twenty thousand now.
And with this last load of treasure and the wealth seized from the Lord of Leon's estate, the total was probably going to exceed 30,000 gold coins.
Judging by raw numbers, that was already quite a fortune.
But then Li Chengxi suddenly remembered—AAI wasn’t a one-script game.
He clicked on the corner of the screen to open Settings, then hit Return to Main Menu.
The leftmost button labeled “Fantasy” was now grayed out, with a line of red text beneath it reading “Running.”
The middle button said “Wuxia.” Clicking it brought up a prompt: “Requires 50,000 gold coins to unlock.”
At present, the resource panel had over 30,000. That made 50,000 feel not so far away.
But in reality, getting more gold wasn’t easy.
The recent spike in wealth all came from treasure, which wasn’t something you'd just stumble upon every day.
These things were pure luck.
The Leon Territory was poor to begin with.
Even if you scraped the land until it sparked, you wouldn’t get anything valuable.
Trying to collect another 10,000+ gold coins through taxation here was a pipe dream.
Plus, Viola wanted to turn the Leon Territory into a rear base.
That meant spending more, not hoarding.
Wuxia was always a dream for Chinese players.
Li Chengxi had clicked it first by instinct at the beginning, only to realize it was locked and then moved on to try Fantasy.
Looking at the simple main menu screen, Li Chengxi sighed.
If only there were a divine art that could turn stones into gold.
Unlocking the Wuxia script—he’d have to push it up on his priority list and think more about it later.
Speaking of money, Li Chengxi looked at the time, stood up, took a bundle of cash from behind the counter, put it in his bag, then grabbed the door lock and hung it on the store’s door.
He planned to make a quick run to the bank while business was still slow.
—
Li Chengxi’s convenience store dealt with suppliers by paying them according to how much was sold.
Most people used mobile payments now, so transferring funds was easy—just a few taps on his phone and it was done.
But since his store was located in an old residential complex, many of the elderly customers nearby didn’t know how to use QR codes.
They still paid with physical bills.
So Li Chengxi usually made a bank trip every three or four months to deposit cash.
You could treat it like a recurring quest in a game, but really it wasn’t that much trouble.
There was a small bank right on the same commercial street where he lived—a ten-minute walk at most, even closer than the pharmacy.
He pushed open the door to the little neighborhood bank.
The blast of air conditioning refreshed him instantly.
This bank mostly handled pension withdrawals for nearby elderly folks, who came in regularly.
Besides that, hardly anyone ever visited.
But today, for some reason, the line inside was unusually long.
Seemed like he’d have to wait a while.
Seeing that, Li Chengxi decided on the spot: forget the small change, he’d just deposit the big-denomination bills.
So instead of lining up to get a service number, he walked across the lobby—enjoying the cool air—and headed for a side door that led directly to the ATM room.
Someone was using the machine ahead of him, so he waited about two minutes.
He had just set his bag down and was about to pull out his card…
When from the lobby came a huge bang.
The sound was so loud his ears rang, even though he was in a locked-off ATM booth behind a glass door.
Startled, Li Chengxi turned around to see what had happened.
And that’s when he saw them—several burly men had broken in, all wearing black hoods.
Dust and chunks of plaster were falling from the ceiling.
And those guys... were carrying guns.
“Everybody down on the floor! This is a robbery!”
Welp, unreal.
