Chapter 35: Maxed-Out Resistance
As soon as Zola saw clearly what it was, she immediately ordered everyone to split up.
The creature was nearly three meters tall.
Though humanoid in shape, it was stocky and wide for stability.
This hulking construct made of metal was incredibly heavy—each step it took felt like a minor earthquake.
One of its massive steel fists slammed down exactly where someone had just been standing moments before, instantly creating a deep crater in the solid rock floor, shattering stones in the process.
Taking a hit from that thing would render any armor useless.
It wouldn’t matter if you wore heavy plate or padded cloth—armor and person alike would be smashed into pulp.
Golems were metal constructs animated by magic, essentially a magical version of a robot.
In theory, as long as they were properly maintained, a golem could exist forever.
But that’s just theory.
This was a relic from the Mythic Era—if the golem had truly been built back then, it should’ve fallen to pieces long ago.
Especially considering this cavern connected directly to the sea—it was saturated with salt.
Yet that golem looked brand new.
Not a hint of rust or corrosion.
Unless someone had been maintaining it… the only other explanation was that something in this room was preserving the golem.
Realizing this, Zola also recalled the gold and silver vessels she had glimpsed upon entering—they, too, were sparkling clean, utterly untouched by dust, as if someone had just polished them.
“INTRUDERS!”
The golem let out a harsh, metallic screech.
It clenched its steel fist, then turned up its palm.
On the thick finger was a grand and ornate ring inlaid with a large glowing gem.
“Show me your strength! The Ring of the Demon King shall bear witness!”
The Ring of the Demon King?
What’s that?
And what language is the golem speaking? How can I even understand it?
It was clearly a language Zola had never heard before, and yet she could fully comprehend each word.
There wasn’t time to think.
Zola shouted to two Royal Guards beside her:
“Use the formation for large monsters!”
With those words, she raised her longsword level before her chest and charged straight at the golem.
The golem raised its arm and slammed its fist down.
The floor cracked again under its brute force.
Its strength was immense, but its movements were too straightforward and sluggish.
Zola, a master of swordsmanship, dodged with a sidestep and closed the gap, leaping into the space within its reach.
“Blade of Severing Gold!”
As she activated her battle technique, a layer of radiant energy crept up her sword blade.
She aimed for a joint at the golem’s waist that appeared to be the weakest point and struck downward.
The two Royal Guards flanked the golem, moving to its left and right, and the three of them attacked simultaneously with the Blade of Severing Gold.
CLANG!
A deafening clang reverberated through the chamber.
Zola’s arms went numb from the impact—she nearly lost her grip on her steel sword.
As for the point of impact—it had left only a faint scratch.
It didn’t even break through the outer layer.
The Blade of Severing Gold was a battle technique that greatly increased cutting power, its name suggesting the ability to split metal clean through.
But it was completely ineffective against this golem.
Whatever alloy the golem was made of, it wasn’t ordinary steel—it was far too tough.
From behind, Zhuoya released three quick arrows while the golem’s head was bent toward Zola.
Each arrow targeted a luminous red spot that resembled an eye.
But again, the arrows merely clinked off the red gem-like surface with a series of crisp, musical pings.
No damage.
“Fall back!”
Holding back the numbing sensation in her arms, Zola ordered the others to retreat.
The Royal Guards barely leapt clear before the golem spun its upper body.
Pivoting at the waist like a windmill, it swung both arms outward.
Had anyone been a second slower in falling back, being flung across the cave might've counted as mercy from the Demon God.
“Entangling Roots!”
The Druid saw everyone retreat and lifted his hand, casting a beam of green light.
The light embedded itself into the stone beneath the golem’s feet.
Instantly, countless vine-like tendrils erupted from the cracks, reaching to bind the golem’s legs.
The golem, momentarily without a target, had just stopped its spin.
It lifted one heavy leg and stomped forward.
A deep thud rumbled through the earth.
The vines were shattered beneath its step, offering no restraint whatsoever.
“INTRUDERS! SHOW ME YOUR STRENGTH! THE RING OF THE DEMON KING SHALL BEAR WITNESS!”
Still repeating those same lines, the golem boomed again.
Just then, Zhuoya called out to Zola:
“Toss me over there!”
It was a risky move, but there was no time to ask questions.
Zola leveled her longsword.
Zhuoya launched herself with a leap so light it looked weightless, landing on the flat of the blade.
“Ha!”
Zola used all her strength to thrust the sword upward, flinging Zhuoya through the air toward the golem.
Midair, she closed the distance quickly.
The slow-moving golem didn’t even notice her until she was practically on top of it.
Zhuoya landed lightly like a cat on its armor-clad body.
Before the golem could swat at her, she scrambled upward using both hands and feet.
She drew a dagger from her waist and thrust it toward the glowing red "eye" on the golem's head.
But just then, the golem tilted its helmet-like head.
The dagger missed the red gem and stabbed into the smooth surface of its helmet.
Surprisingly, this time the dagger pierced the metal easily, leaving a clear and deep scratch as though there were no resistance at all.
The golem began to shake violently.
With no other choice, Zhuoya jumped down, rolled across the floor, and landed safely behind Zola.
“That dagger of yours—is it magical?”
“It’s a magic weapon made of mithril. But... you saw. It’s almost useless on this thing.”
Tree Elves don’t forge with fire—they use potions and magic to smith at room temperature.
This crafting method isn’t necessarily inferior to traditional hammer forging.
It even has unique advantages in handling rare metals.
But it’s also incredibly time-consuming and labor-intensive.
As such, metal is very rare among Tree Elves.
Zhuoya owned only that one mithril dagger, and it was too short to reach the golem’s inner parts.
Everyone stared at the golem, which had begun emitting a hum as it powered back up.
The situation had gotten tricky.
–‐‐——–‐‐——
It wasn't just the five people on the scene who had a headache over the golem—Li Chengxi, who was watching from in front of the screen, was at a loss too.
“This thing’s hacking, isn’t it?!”
On the golem’s ability panel, the level was listed as ‘LV30’.
That part was still acceptable.
But the following lines read:
Immune to Positive Energy, Immune to Negative Energy, Immune to Frost, Immune to Lightning, Immune to Corrosion, Immune to Toxins, Immune to Soundwaves, Immune to Mind Effects, Immune to Piercing and Slashing.
Also Resistant to Fire.
And below that: “Status spells have no effect.”
“F***! This is a full-resistance monster marathon!”
The only damage type that worked was Bludgeoning.
That was the one vulnerability—it had no resistance to blunt force.
But no one on the scene was carrying a hammer.
They were either wielding slashing swords or piercing arrows.
And the Druid?
In front of the golem, the Druid’s spells were nothing more than decoration.
Thinking calmly, Li Chengxi considered that this was bound to be a tough fight—after all, such a hoard of treasure guarded by a final boss couldn’t be that easy.
Because this wasn’t a one-on-one battle, the visual had shifted into tactical grid mode; Zola and the others auto-moved tile by tile across the screen.
Li Chengxi quickly noticed the golem’s movement speed was very low, and its attack animations were slow.
As long as Zola and the others dodged correctly, they shouldn’t be in danger.
But the fact remained: they had no way to harm the golem.
The first idea that popped into Li Chengxi’s mind was to reach into the screen and intervene personally.
But even if he could, it was questionable whether he could crush a solid metal construct with his bare hands.
And direct intervention would cost Faith Points—the more he meddled, the more it would consume.
There were under seven hundred Faith Points on the screen’s left side, and the Demon God's faith had only just begun to spread in the city.
The rate of increase in Faith Points was still quite slow.
If he burned through them now, he might find himself short when he truly needed them later.
Faith Points were the most vital resource in the whole game.
Unless absolutely necessary, he shouldn’t waste them.
Since direct intervention wasn’t ideal, the most cost-effective solution at the moment… was to bestow Divine Arts.
