Chapter 265: Refuses to Listen to Advice
As the saying goes, you can have anything in your dreams.
Dreaming, after all, isn't against the law.
But a god's dream is different from an ordinary person's.
Driven by divine power, it can potentially become reality.
By the same token, the simplest and most direct way to control divine power is through imagination.
"Intensely imagine the person you're looking for—her gender, age, appearance, or even personality. Any of these will do."
Aidas explained in a low voice:
"Melora said it's very awkward at first, so you can use hand gestures to enhance the imagination. Once you get used to it in the future, you won't need them."
The principle behind this operation is simple.
For instance, holding up one finger immediately makes one think of the number 1.
Li Chengxi was a little skeptical.
How reliable could such a purely mental method be?
But trying it wouldn't get him pregnant.
So he stretched out his hand, palm open, and aimed it at the screen, trying his best to recall everything about Audel.
At first, perhaps because the impression in his mind was a bit vague, there was no reaction.
But then, the computer monitor began to show screen tearing, like a distorted image caused by a high-speed camera movement.
After just two or three seconds, the picture returned to normal, and Li Chengxi saw a blue-haired, chibi pixel person right in the center of the screen.
It actually worked.
"A lot of the control over divine power relies solely on imagination; the thought just has to appear in your mind. But for us to influence the mortal world with divine power isn't so easy. It requires many different conditions."
He suddenly realized that allying with Aidas was an excellent choice.
If not for her reminder, Li Chengxi would have had no idea such an operation was even possible.
"How is the mortal world right now?"
"I haven't seen anything unusual for the time being."
"I don't know how many gods were shot down, but our divine domains should still be functioning. Hopefully, we can resolve this before any major problems arise."
"In any case, let's just settle in for now. Perhaps the other gods who fell to Earth know the reason for what happened."
Aidas nodded and sat down on the bed behind Li Chengxi.
There was nothing else to be done.
For now, they could only wait for news.
But Li Chengxi, who had just been telling Aidas to relax, suddenly grabbed the microphone:
"Fuck! I told you so many times not to go!"
Looking at Audel's screen alone, there was nothing wrong.
But if one looked at the map, they would see that Audel's current location was within the Tandelon Demon Kingdom.
In other words, it was the location Audel had mentioned during her last visit, where the Ring of the Demon King might be...
–‐‐——–‐‐——
Demon Lord Calendar, Year 648.
September 5th, three in the morning.
Audel, holding her staff, strolled through a desolate and uninhabited forest.
This was within the territory of the Tandelon Demon Kingdom, one of the Southern Territories.
Although its proximity to the sea provided the convenience of maritime transport, the forest's area was simply too vast, and the creatures within it were too difficult to deal with.
It was extremely difficult for civilization in this region to expand, leaving large swathes of uninhabited land.
These forests were also ancient, very likely existing since the Mythic Era.
No one knew how many dangers were hidden within.
Even adventurers who lived with their heads on the line rarely ventured inside.
This also meant it was one of the best places to hide things.
The cold magical light illuminated the path and drove away any beasts that tried to approach.
As Audel gradually neared the center of the forest, she knew she couldn't afford to be careless.
Of course, even the most powerful mage shouldn't travel alone.
After all, anything could happen on an adventure, and magic was not a panacea that could solve all problems.
A female Tiefling with date-red skin, black sclera, and pupils that glinted in the darkness said with some fear:
"I just saw the footprint of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. I hope it doesn't catch our scent."
The dinosaurs of this world had not gone completely extinct; they had just been driven into rarely visited places by the expansion of civilization.
"Professor Audel's magic won't fail. It can't smell us. As long as we're not unlucky enough to run straight into it, we'll be fine."
The one who answered the Tiefling was a male Dwarf.
His stout body was covered in heavy armor that clanked as he walked.
"Are we in the southern forests of Tandelon? If I'd known we were coming here, I would have worn my old boots."
A male Halfling Priest, clad in chainmail and carrying a mace, was displeased that his favorite boots were now caked in soft mud.
The three of them had no idea where they were, because Audel had brought them here with a Mass Teleportation spell.
The female Tiefling was named Nimia, a new rogue who had recently joined the ranks of adventurers.
Although she lacked experience in this line of work, her skills were decent, specializing in lockpicking, scouting, and stealth.
The male Dwarf was named Delge.
Compared to the Tiefling, he was a seasoned veteran, having worked as a warrior in the adventurer profession for nearly forty years.
Dwarves, like Elves, were long-lived, with lifespans of around five hundred years.
But in the adventuring profession, anyone who could survive for ten years was already considered one of the chosen.
To last for forty years meant he was definitely an elite among adventurers.
The last one, the male Halfling, was named Perrin.
He had been an adventurer for four years and was a bit neurotic, but he was a Priest, a profession in short supply among adventurers, making him a welcome addition to any team.
But Priests were not the fragile healers one might imagine.
Clad in heavy armor and wielding a mace, not only could he heal, but he could also step up as an off-tank when necessary.
The three of them had not known each other before this, at most having only heard of one another.
They were not a team, but rather freelance adventurers hired by Audel.
Not long ago, Audel had posted a request for adventurers in a tavern in the City of Academics.
The content was to escort her to explore some ruins for academic research.
Besides a high reward of 100 gold coins, it also stated that apart from antiques with research value, all gold coins and gemstones found would belong to the guards.
Such quests were quite common in the City of Academics and were considered lucrative jobs.
A single trip could basically allow one to retire and enjoy the rest of their life.
But when the excited adventurers crowded over and saw Audel's name written in the client section, they all began to back away.
Audel was a celebrity in the City of Academics; everyone knew she was the youngest high-ranking mage.
And just think, a place where even a high-ranking mage needed guards to dare go—could it be any good?
Adventurers did indeed live with their heads on the line, but they still had to act within their capabilities.
Therefore, established adventurer parties with stable incomes would never accept a quest with such high risks.
However, brave men will always emerge under a heavy reward.
The pay was simply too high.
For those in desperate need of money, they would have to brave it, even if it were a mountain of blades or a sea of fire.
About five hours ago, in the middle of the night, the group set out.
Audel used Mass Teleportation to get them near the target, and they had been moving through the forest ever since.
Adventurers usually operate during the day and must find a place to camp at night, as many monsters are nocturnal.
Combined with the obstructed vision of the darkness, it was all very dangerous.
But Audel insisted they must travel at night.
For the sake of the high reward, they could only risk their lives to accompany her.
