World Destruction (11): The Great Legacy's Final Curse
"This is fucking insane."
After racing across countless planets, something finally came into view. Something impossibly enormous.
This must be the Great Legacy.
A mad bastard stretching a full light-year in size. And the thing I had to take down starting now.
I glided closer and placed my hand on its colossal body. It was so massive I couldn't even tell what part I was touching.
Start with a preemptive strike.
Bam!
I poured demonic energy into its flesh with all my might. Nothing fancy—just a simple technique. Destructive demonic energy burrowed through its body, wreaking havoc on its internals. Of course, it wouldn't move faster than light, so it was mostly symbolic.
Destroying the whole thing would take well over a year. The point was that I'd inflicted some damage, however microscopic.
Now the real fun begins.
Roooar.
About ten black dragons burst from the void. The massive ones that had devoured the Underground Kingdom Great Enemy in one gulp. Against this light-year behemoth, they looked like earthworms at best.
Splat!
The dragons bored into its body. This fight would come down to who wore out first—me or it. The Association better pray they could rack up serious damage over the next three months.
"Hup."
I drew in a deep breath and thrust my hand toward the sky. Watching the black dragons tunnel in, its flesh clearly wasn't that tough. So the key was volume.
Demonic energy gathered at one point. My second-phase form at full power. This mastery of magic turned every action into something spell-like.
The demonic energy coalesced into a gigantic spear. I pulled every ounce of strength to make it as huge as possible—planet-sized and beyond. The spear I crafted over time dwarfed even the dragons gnawing at its body, reducing them to ant-scale.
Pathetic compared to its size, but penetration was what mattered. This spear would fly straight through to the other side.
Boom!
I swung my arm down, launching the spear at insane speed. It slammed into the beast and kept going. And going. And going.
It's long sideways too, huh?
Shorter than a light-year, sure, but still endless. The spear barreled onward without slowing.
This should do it.
I slipped into the tunnel the spear had carved. No guts or blood—just a clean void. Then I formed another massive spear.
It dug into the flesh as it took shape. Crunch! Crackle!
I swung my arm down, and the embedded spear fired just like the first, pulverizing the interior into mush.
Already getting tired.
This had barely scratched 0.1% of its body. Sure, any lifeform had limits—lop off 40 or 50% and it'd die—but that didn't make it any less exhausting.
"One more shot."
I started forming another spear. Plan was to spam volume-based spears endlessly until it dropped.
Roooooooaaaaaaar!!
Suddenly, a colossal roar echoed everywhere. No—not in the air. In my head. Telepathy.
I wiped the nosebleed trickling down and shook my head. What the hell was that?
"Is that you?"
As I reeled, a voice spoke in my mind. Low and elderly.
"Have you come in person?"
"Who the fuck are you?"
"You already know who I am."
It seemed to know me.
"The Great Legacy?"
"That's what humans call me. Likely accurate."
The Great Legacy's voice held no power. Like it was forcing itself through an unwanted chore.
"Fine. Let's talk."
"Speak."
"You know me?"
I cut straight to it. Kept acting like we were old pals—what gives?
"Shall I ask in turn? Do you not know me? Us?"
"Who the hell are you...?"
"Heh. We've suffered your curse all this time, yet you've forgotten us."
Its voice flared with anger briefly, then deflated.
"I despise you all the same."
"Hey, who the fuck are you!"
I yelled, indignant. What had I even done? Possessed this body and holed up training—that was it.
"You truly don't remember?"
The Great Legacy spoke lowly.
"We are demons. Your children."
"What...?"
Demons? Demons?
I pondered, then put on a grave face.
"Weren't all the demons killed by the Hero? And why do demons even have free will?"
"I'd rather not say. You remain loathsome."
Thud.
It shifted its body.
"My purpose is merely to sate your base desires. Thus, I go. To end Earth."
It accelerated toward Earth, far faster than our first encounter.
"My sincere apologies to humanity. But this is my duty. Your desire."
"Hey! Wait! Stop!"
If this light-year monster reached Earth, it'd be hours at most. No wonder my presence tanked win rates. Direct contact cranked its speed.
"Shall I stop?"
"Yeah! That's an order from the Demon King! Halt!"
"No."
Firm refusal.
"Your desires remain unchanged."
"..."
"I said stop!"
I burst from its body and unleashed a barrage of spells. Innumerable magics honed in training. They detonated together in solid firepower.
"That won't kill me. I am your ultimate weapon... your masterpiece, forged to fulfill your desires."
"Fuck!"
But its light-year bulk nullified everything.
"For your desires, yes. But if you block me... I will retaliate."
Splat!
A shockwave like losing consciousness hit my head. Its tail. That massive tail whipped me.
Overwhelming mass. Speed I couldn't dodge. Insane energy turned my body to bloody pulp.
Schlurp.
"What the... fuck."
I regenerated against a nearby planetoid, wiping my mouth. Pure physical force did this?
Creeeak. Grind.
My armor groaned in panic. Broken? Damage my regen couldn't handle?
"Stay out of my path. This is all your doing."
Its body loomed distant, a mess from me but still fast.
Face it.
I couldn't win like this. Crystal clear.
My full output canceled by one tail swipe. My magic was nothing against that physics.
So.
I need to get stronger.
Schlurp.
Armor melted, revealing my true form. Crunch! Crackle!
Veins screamed. Skin bulged and burst; bones snapped and powdered.
"Ancestor."
When only blood remained in my skin-sack, true change began.
"Will you take even my life?"
Cracks spiderwebbed my body like glass, blood welling in the fissures.
"I crave death. But if you're unsatisfied, I die in vain."
Demonic energy filled the cracks' blood. The blood-vat hardened into a high-density demonic core.
Eyes reddened; pupils blackened.
"Answer me! O Great Demon King!"
Overflowing blood enveloped me, forming shape. A beautiful black dress. Fit for a grand ballroom.
"I shall answer, child."
At true power's peak, I spoke to it.
"The 'me' whose desires you know... is not me."
"Lies. Your desires—"
"Enough."
I hushed the Great Legacy with a finger to my lips.
"Yet I acknowledge my fault in vanishing without further orders."
"..."
It fell silent.
"Still, I must halt your pursuit of those desires."
I extended my hand slowly. Far beyond it. Farther than its body.
"Forgive me, child. My deepest apologies."
"..."
Craaaack!
A massive dimensional gate tore open beyond it. Everything nearby got sucked in. Even its body.
Twitch. Squirm.
It thrashed violently to escape, but futile. It vanished into the gate at speeds dwarfing light—demonic energy shredding physics.
"..."
As 60% of its body vanished, the Great Legacy stopped struggling.
"I was mistaken."
Resignation in its voice.
"You're still bound by desire. Yet you resist."
Finally, its enormous head appeared. Larva-like, but almost expressive.
"I still resent you. But for one thing, I am grateful."
Its entire form entered the gate.
"Though you denied your desires, you ended my life. Truly, thank you."
With those final words, the gate sealed shut.
