"The origin of the Masterpieces. The first legacy, and the source of all things."

"There are things I received when I was first granted my mission. The Metamor that went into the White Savior is one, and so are the other powers."

In the center where the anvils had gathered, a great pile of pure white wood-like material had been stacked high.

"To put it precisely, you might call it a transmission from the origin itself. It is the inheriting of a great power."

"Ooh... that does sound pretty impressive."

"Well, yes and no..."

"Yes and no?"

Ahem!

"...In the terms of you Otherworlders, it's an 'enhancement material.' You choose one of the Masterpieces and raise its 'tier.'"

"Tier? You mean its grade?"

"That's right."

"An enhancement material... so one of them is guaranteed to get better, at least."

There were eight Masterpieces.

One of them could be enhanced with the Light of Heritage, and that masterpiece would rise beyond Mythic to the grade of Transcendence.

Needless to say, the weapon's performance and authorities would skyrocket along with it.

The masterpiece I use most is the White Savior, so of course it only made sense to use it there... in theory, anyway.

"Hmm... what should I do?"

The White Savior.

A weapon crafted to fit me personally, one that could shift between spear and war hammer at any moment.

It had the advantage of changing form on demand, and the unique property of holding my divinity in full — but that was all.

It doesn't have any special 'authority' of its own.

I placed the Silver Purifier onto the second anvil.

The second anvil drank in the faint glow of the masterpiece and took on a silver sheen.

The question marks in the recipe vanished, and the Silver Purifier was registered.

Next, I set the Yellow Marauder onto the third anvil.

"I don't intend to use it on the White Savior."

"The White Savior is useful, sure, but it lacks any special ability compared to the other Masterpieces."

The Multicolored Successor's Inheritance, which calls upon the power of the Mythic Era.

The Silver Purifier's Purification, which unleashes devastating force against the undead and vampires.

The Yellow Marauder's Plunder, which strips away an enemy's stats and strength.

Beyond those there were more — Guidance, Hermitage (severing), Destruction, Guardianship and so on — each distinct and unique in its own right. But the White Savior's entire repertoire was simply Transformation.

Even if I enhanced it, at best it would transform faster or channel my divinity a little more smoothly.

And that wouldn't help me much at all.

"Right?"

"Hmm... that's not wrong, but neither is it entirely right. With the Light of Heritage, any of the Masterpieces would perform magnificently."

Beyond anything you can imagine, at that.

"That said, as you said yourself, a masterpiece is a weapon with a will of its own. Its unique ability may be strengthened, but no entirely new power will be born from it."

"Well, naturally... the first, would it not be?"

The very first masterpiece Drak ever forged, and the great ornament that averted Talikal Kingdom's first annihilation.

"Used on the Multicolored Successor, which summons the power of the Mythic Era, the strength gained through its trials would be maximized. Beyond any comparison with the others."

"The first one."

The first... that one was on my list of candidates, it was true.

If it weren't for the Kraken's trial, it might have been a fairly strong frontrunner, but I was still weighing my options.

Let's finish the setup first and decide after.

Next, the Red...

"Putting it on a weapon isn't a great idea."

The fact that the Transcendence grade would appear after the Great Cataclysm had already been made known — because of me.

Which meant that, sooner or later, another Transcendent-grade weapon could be obtained.

Rather than crafting a vaguely Transcendent weapon now only to watch it grow obsolete later, I figured it was wiser to spend the Light on something like an ornament that I could keep using alongside whatever came next.

It wasn't that I couldn't wield two weapons at once — I simply didn't prefer to.

The power of the Red Guide seeped into the fourth anvil, and one by one the remaining Masterpieces — all but the White — were laid upon the rest.

The last one.

Only Drak's eighth masterpiece, the White Savior, remained.

I could feel the will of the White Savior — the spear resting in my hand.

"Don't get your hopes up. You're not getting it."

"Then, in it goes."

Was that stuff Drak had been piling up earlier actually timber?

When I turned to look at him, Drak nodded at my expression as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

"Normally you'd have to go and gather it yourself, but the timing was early, so I've made you a special gift. Be grateful."

"I thought materials weren't consumed?"

"Mystery materials are different. They're the fuel that drives the table itself."

"Ah, I see."

Judging by the chat and Drak's reaction, this was evidently a material that could only be obtained after the Great Cataclysm.

If the materials could be gathered, then perhaps other players could use this crafting table too.

"Can other Otherworlders use it as well?"

"If they have the materials and the recipe, certainly. Though they would need to find their way here on their own."

Vuuuuum!

The pure white timber burned away like kindling, and the eight brilliantly colored anvils blazed with light.

The beams of light converged, streaming toward the center where the timber had burned away.

The merging lights rose high into the air, weaving themselves into an aurora.

The lights flickered with a radiance that made a mere random box look pathetic by comparison —

Two lights had been born.

"...What the—!"

"What's this?"

A recipe that should have yielded a single item had produced two.

The second one seemed several tiers below Transcendence, but it was still a genuine Light of Heritage.

The fact that a title came with it made it feel like a 'Grand Crafting Success'...

"That's insane."

Honestly, I'd always considered my own luck rather bad.

After all, I'd been through far too many unlucky misfortunes to call myself fortunate.

Kiki, the ancient race that took the form of a slot machine.

Delighted to finally get a moment in the spotlight, Kiki was whirling around me in circles, spinning its reels with wild abandon.

For the record, Kiki's slot machine always landed on 777.

Drak stared at Kiki with dark, haunted eyes.

"The odds of that should be lower than the chance of being struck by lightning. How, in the name of..."

"So what happens now?"

"Drak?"

"...It's done. There is only one Heritage regardless. You can spend one on each of two different Masterpieces."

"Can't I use both on one?"

"Did I not say so? A masterpiece may receive only a single Heritage."

"Hmm, maybe so... Huh?"

As I scanned the chat reactions, I was checking the item's description when I noticed something off about it.
