My Luck Stat Is Only 1? Claiming the Rare Nickname Kaios
Hmm...
Are these stats any good? There's not enough information to judge properly. I needed to ask for a detailed explanation.
"Give me a detailed breakdown of the status window."
After listening to the Maid Helper's explanation, I finally understood what each stat meant. Vitality raised my HP. Mana increased my MP. Strength and Agility were exactly what they sounded like. Intelligence boosted magic power. Endurance improved overall defense, while Resistance reduced the effects of debuffs and status ailments, helping me overcome harsh environments. It even provided resistance against specific elements. Stamina kept me from tiring out easily. And Luck influenced item drop rates and critical hit chances. Apparently some stats also had hidden effects.
If there are hidden effects, Luck is the most suspicious one... maybe Intelligence or Resistance too?
That was just speculation, though. Still, these results genuinely surprised me. I have a luck cheat, so I naturally assumed my Luck stat would be the highest. Instead, it was a measly 1. What the hell? Was the distribution just garbage? Or was this actually the result after my luck cheat had been applied?
Honestly, I wanted to reroll. The cost was a full million won, but I had more than enough money to cover it. In the end, though, I decided to stick with what I had. Getting 0 Intelligence as a non-mage was actually a huge win. From my memories of my previous life, the first roll was usually the best anyway. I'd always regretted rerolling afterward, thinking I should have just kept the original.
I made up my mind, took a screenshot of the status results, and committed.
"I'll keep it like this."
"You do not wish to reroll?"
"Nope."
"Then please choose your nickname."
Please enter your nickname.
Nickname, huh...
I thought about it for a moment. At first I considered just using my real name, but then something else occurred to me. I had a nickname I already used on several major communities. Using that might cause problems later in the game, so I decided against it.
That's when a memory from my previous life surfaced. Back then, one of my hobbies when starting a new game was sniping rare nicknames. Whenever an interesting title launched, I'd log in as fast as possible to grab one. For some reason, that memory hit me hard right now.
After a brief pause, I typed it in.
Kaios
It was taken from the game itself—GranKaios, the Black Dragon's name, with "Gran" removed. That had to be rare enough. Someone might have already claimed it, but since I jumped in immediately, I wasn't sure yet.
Are you sure you want to lock in this nickname? Nicknames cannot be changed later. Please choose carefully.
"Lock it in."
Character nickname has been finalized.
〈Kaios〉
"Oh... I actually got it."
I'd tried on a whim, but snagging it for real felt amazing. From now on, in this world, my name was Kaios.
"Character creation is now complete. You will be moved to the starting city and cradle of the gods—Fortike's Cradle. There, users can learn the game's basic mechanics."
The moment the Maid Helper finished speaking, a blue, shimmering portal appeared in front of me. I stared at it with slightly widened eyes, then jumped in without hesitation.
"Thanks," I said to the helper right before stepping through.
Passing through the portal left me feeling a bit nauseous. When the blinding light faded and I opened my eyes, I found myself inside a massive structure that felt like a grand temple. I was admiring the majestic architecture when something sparkled into existence right beside me.
It was another person wearing the same brown long-sleeved top and black pants I had on. Probably someone who had just finished character creation like me.
So all users start here?
"Hmm..."
The temple was huge, but judging by the number of players logging in, one building wouldn't be enough. There were probably several of these places. As I was thinking that, a golden light suddenly flashed in front of me. Something the size of a small doll sparkled for about three seconds before slowly taking form.
What appeared was a mini-sized, translucent angel. She looked like a ten-year-old girl with a glowing halo above her head and pure white wings on her back. It was already cute, but the tiny doll size made her even more adorable.
"Hello! Kaios! I am the 7,777,777th messenger of Lady Fortike, Goddess of Light and Hope! I will be supporting you here in the Cradle from now on!"
"I see. Nice to meet you."
"Yes!"
7,777,777th messenger? I thought about what that meant for a second before it clicked. It was probably the user number. So I was the 7,777,777th person to log in?
"Whoa... if this is luck, then it's luck. Does that even apply to something like this?"
Seven sevens in a row. That was a miraculous jackpot number. Getting even 777 was hard enough.
"So what do I do now?"
"Would you like to open your status window first? You can pull it up from the system menu in the upper right of your vision! But there's an easier way. Place your hand on your forehead and say 'Status Window'!"
Following the mini-angel's instructions, I put my hand on my forehead and said, "Status Window."

"Oh... so this is the status window."
Blessing, Title, Unique Trait, Achievement Rank—there were still things I didn't fully understand yet. That just makes me more excited to find out.
"What next?"
"Please follow me!"
I trailed after the mini-angel as she floated slowly ahead. The moment we stepped out of the temple, brilliant sunlight poured down from the sky. I squinted for a second, then looked around to find a wide open training ground waiting for me. Countless training dummies were scattered across it, and many players were already busy pounding away at them.
I immediately got the picture.
"Hit those training dummies to level up! Striking them grants experience! Destroying one gives a large amount of experience!"
"Got it."
I walked up to an empty dummy and stood in front of it. Then I threw a punch like I was hitting a sandbag back in real life.
Thud!
The dummy shook slightly and my hand felt a bit numb. I hit it a few more times, then looked down at my hand as a dull ache started to rise. That pain actually helped me feel how real everything was.
The FD capsule could completely eliminate pain, but I hadn't chosen that option. Removing all pain made my body's senses feel slightly dulled. It wasn't just me being picky—plenty of other users felt the same. Tests showed that completely removing pain reduced overall sensation by about ten to twenty percent. Lowering the pain limiter improved physical feedback and reaction speed.
That's why I'd set my pain limiter to seventy percent reduction. In other words, I felt about thirty percent of real pain. I'm not some masochist who enjoys hurting. Of course I don't like pain. But after experimenting myself, I found this was the sweet spot. This level let me play at peak condition.
Most users didn't lower it this far. They didn't want to feel pain while playing. My friends didn't have to copy me, but once I told them what I was doing, they all lowered their settings too. They said they wanted to get used to it before Legend of the Black Dragon launched. Surprisingly, everyone adapted to the pain quickly. That maniac Jo Kwang-hoon even did special training to endure burning pain. Figures—the guy really does resemble Zoro.
While I was hitting the dummy and thinking about all that...
"Oh, level up."
"You've leveled up! Congratulations! Please check your status window!"
"Status Window."

"You've received a stat point! You can raise any ability you want with it! Go ahead and use one!"
I put the point into Strength. The 10 changed to 11.
"You gain one stat point every time you level up! I hope you continue raising your level and growing stronger! Some rare items have stat requirements, so saving points and using them carefully is also a good strategy!"
So there are stat requirements too.
Sounded like saving them was the smart move. Of course, I'd use them immediately if I needed to.
"Now let's open the skill window!"
Oh, skills are next.
