Day 2: First Blood with the Undead
The second morning of the apocalypse dawned.
"Oppa!!!!!! This is bad!!!"
And for the first time, I came face-to-face with a zombie.
Thud.Thud.
Some random noise out of nowhere from the morning had me rushing to check the CCTV, and there it was on the camera by the side of the house—a zombie slamming its head into the wall over and over.
This thing's got some serious strength...
Thud.Thud.
No... quit banging already, you fuck! It's so damn loud.
Feels like we're under siege or some shit.
"...What do we do?"
"Kill it, obviously."
So-hyun and I already knew the state of the world, so dealing with the zombie was just a question of how. But the two women, hit with these shocking revelations out of the blue, just stood there dumbfounded, eyes glazed over like their souls had fled.
I hadn't told them for fear they'd off themselves... but now with a zombie showing up at the door and ringing the bell like a maniac, I had no choice but to spill it.
They wouldn't actually kill themselves, right?
Anxiety gripped me like a kid who might lose their favorite toy.
A life that's basically sex slavery. Families out there, all unknown if they're dead or alive... only a suffocating future with no hope in sight.
...We might die too, you know?
I whispered carefully into So-hyun's ear.
"Keep an eye on them in case they try to off themselves."
"Okay..."
This was our house mascot So-hyun's time to shine! With her cute little sister chattering away by their side, it'd give them some strength.
"So-hyun-ah, can you make some food first?"
"Yes...!!!"
So-hyun nodded at my request and cautiously headed to the pantry. Every thud from the zombie's headbutts made her jump, but she moved slowly and carefully.
"Th-there won't be any zombies climbing over the wall, right?"
"If there were, they wouldn't be knocking right now, would they?"
"R-right?"
She poked her head out the door, scanning every direction multiple times before finally stepping forward.
I was about to head out to deal with the noisy zombie bastard when Na-young grabbed me.
"Um... can you explain?"
"That?"
"Yes..."
She nodded, pointing at the TV.
Well... no one could process it all at once just from seeing it.
Deny it in your head a few times, recognize reality with your eyes. Deny again. Recognize again. Repeat that loop who knows how many times, but Na-young still looked like she couldn't comprehend.
A-ram didn't ask me directly either, but she stood by Na-young's side. Same situation, probably.
"Better to see it once than hear it explained a hundred times. Let me go for a sec."
"Okay..."
I led the two women to So-hyun's room. Figured I'd show them some videos on the computer.
What to show...? The brutal stuff? The weak ones? Show the strong ones and they might freak; show the weak and they might get false hope and whine about going to find their families.
This is all that zombie fucker's fault.
Thud thud fuck, still banging.
When in doubt, check the galleria. News would just spin some happy bullshit, right? "Even on the brink of doom, humanity clings to hope!" Yeah, fuck that noise.
I pulled up various galleria posts on screen like a PPT slideshow and added explanations.
There's a military base nearby, but no help at all. No safety texts today either. News says trust the army and wait a bit longer... Trust what? They can't even save the neighbors dying right in front of them. Probably too busy saving their own asses. Saving their families. Fuck. Bunch of dogshit bastards.
People's reactions had changed a lot in just a day. Yesterday there were jokes and hopeful posts, but after one day, the galleria was like a funeral home.
Explaining the situation took priority over grasping it fully, so I skimmed through and started laying out the facts for Na-young.
"See these post lists?"
"...Yes."
"Seoul's fucked. Zombies. Any questions?"
Clean and perfect explanation.
"...This fast?"
"Modern firearms are all useless."
"That doesn't make sense..."
"It doesn't, but that's reality. I don't believe in God or anything, but... maybe divine punishment."
"Check the video."
I played the firearms test video I'd seen yesterday for Na-young. Bullets were loaded, but it just made a click—no bang.
"……."
"Zombie bites infect—that's common sense, skip it. Seoul's population density was too high; it spread fast. Turned into hell in seconds. Like this."
"Then where are we?"
"Gangwon Province."
"Gangwon...?"
"Yeah."
"At least you guys won't die thanks to me, right? Check out this wall~ Solid as fuck, huh?!"
"……."
I let it slide when they just stared blankly in confusion, but Na-young shot me a look like I was full of shit.
"Na-young-ah."
"Yes?"
"World's fucked or not, doesn't change shit for you. Bark like a dog, bitch."
"...Woof woof."
"Good girl. Why bark forever? You're good at it."
"Woof woof. I'll be good..."
"Wouldn't it be nice if the world was still fine in a month?"
"……."
Finally getting the meaning of "one month," Na-young hung her head and started sobbing, tears dripping down. She didn't even think to wipe them with her sleeve—just stood there frozen.
Fuck. I was gonna be nice in case she tried to kill herself, but I couldn't hold back and fucked it up.
So-hyun'll handle it. If she dies, oh well.
...Her face looked like it'd be a shame to lose, though. Save her!! So-hyun, save her!!!
"Go rest."
"Woo..."
Unlike Na-young, whose mental state seemed shattered, A-ram didn't look too shocked.
"You seem okay, A-ram?"
"Mom's probably already gone...?"
Whatever the illness, with surgery scheduled and this hitting... the outcome was obvious. No way city hospitals were intact.
"...Yeah, probably."
"Hope Dad's dead too."
"You lived together?"
"Sort of."
...Just on the surface, then.
Every word from A-ram dripped with icy despair. Turns out the real mess was A-ram, not Na-young... Tears streamed from her eyes as she thought of her mom.
I pulled her face into my chest, and she nestled quietly into my arms.
"...Sorry."
"It's fine."
I thought she'd blame me if her mom died. Guess she pins it on the zombies. Wary of instinctively hating me? Whatever—her quietly hugging me was cute.
"Oppa, time to eat!!!"
"Comin'~~"
Thud.Thud. Look at this fucker knocking like it wants food too. Fuck off, no service here!!!
Breakfast was retort hot yukgaejang and rice—gourmet feast given the situation.
"So-hyun-ah, if you're okay, eat with Na-young? She seems pretty down..."
"Yes! Got it!"
"Shall we eat too?"
"Yes."
A-ram poked at her rice with chopsticks, barely eating. If she skips meals like that, those tits might deflate. She's slim already—lose more and it'll all go from her chest. Can't let that tragedy happen, so I called her over.
"A-ram-ah. Come here."
"...Pardon?"
She stood awkwardly, not getting it right away. Came when I told her to, but no clue what next.
I patted my knee, and she finally caught on—"Ah...!"—and climbed on top.
Legs spread wide, facing me. Crotch to crotch, dirty thoughts naturally bubbled up.
"No, eat first..."
"Ah...! W-wrong way..."
At 160cm, A-ram didn't hinder much on my lap. Long legs? Sitting height makes her look even smaller.
I scooped a big spoonful of rice with yukgaejang and shoved it in her mouth; she took it obediently. Feeding a baby...! So cute!!!
"Good girl~"
"I-I can eat alone."
She seemed burdened by my actions—one bite and she tried to get up, but I grabbed her waist.
"Finish it all."
"...Yes."
Dunno why, but she found comfort in my arms. I'm the absolute boss here, and she feels protected. Leave her alone and she'll just stew in gloom. Today, I'm sticking to A-ram all day. Play with her hands a bit. Head to the room for fun. Ah, but first—gotta take out that zombie, huh?
