Selecting a Factory Site
Selecting a Factory Site
After selling Neurogen and amassing a massive fortune, the first thing Jaeseong Bio did was something else.
It was building a factory.
Although they were producing the medicine on the Genesis, it was too wasteful to keep doing so considering the energy consumption. Even though it generated energy from sunlight, it was busy enough just keeping all its functions awake; there was no need to waste energy making medicine.
After checking the revenue, Soyeon diligently started looking for factory sites. Jaeseong Bio had over a trillion won. Since it wasn't a factory requiring expensive equipment like a semiconductor plant, it was more than enough to cover the construction costs.
If they were short, they could just go public as a corporation and raise the money. Jaeseong Bio was now a company that could legitimately be listed on the KOSPI. Companies far worse than Jaeseong Bio were listed on the KOSPI, so there was no reason Jaeseong Bio couldn't be.
Even now, the revenue and scale were enough to go public immediately if they pushed it. This was just the revenue from South Korea alone; there was no telling how much the revenue would skyrocket the moment they started selling worldwide.
What if dementia patients equal to the population of South Korea took the Neurogen produced by Jaeseong Bio every day? They could truly generate 500 trillion won in annual revenue.
Soyeon also assigned work to the Cultured Humans. Of course, the Cultured Humans weren't all as exceptional as Soyeon, so she paired them with experts to travel across the country. Fortunately, there were plenty of places in South Korea to build a factory.
The experts were able to find candidates while conducting site surveys.
"We need to build at least two factories. It's not like Neurogen is the only medicine Jaeseong Bio will produce, right? We know you have the capability to produce other new drugs as well. We've selected sites with the best possible scalability."
The plan was to establish one factory in Gyeonggi-do to handle the volume for the metropolitan area, and one in Daejeon for the volume for the rest of the country.
Soyeon nodded while looking at the map. The experts' words were reasonable.
She easily approved the large-scale factory project, which would cost trillions. To Soyeon, money was just like game currency. Money was something she could earn as much as she wanted if she tried.
If Jaeseong told her to earn money illegally, she would gladly do so. She could create viruses or make poisons lethal to the human body. Poisons that could easily assassinate politicians or entrepreneurs.
Of course, since Jaeseong didn't want such things, she was only thinking about it.
Jaeseong Bio hired plenty of regular people, not just Cultured Humans. Perhaps because it was a company that made dementia treatments, it was popular among job seekers.
Furthermore, Jaeseong Bio employees didn't have to grovel to sell medicine like those at other pharmaceutical companies. There was no other dementia treatment in the world besides Neurogen.
Instead, hospitals had to grovel and beg Jaeseong Bio for Neurogen.
Considering how pharmaceutical sales reps help doctors with all sorts of menial tasks just to sell medicine, one could say Jaeseong Bio had less pressure in that regard.
Plus, the salary was at the level of a major corporation, and the benefits were good. There was no need to suffer by joining other pharmaceutical companies. Jaeseong Bio took better care of them.
Once the final approval was given, Jaeseong Bio's working team moved diligently.
The team negotiated with the landowners to secure the factory sites. Fortunately, the landowners agreed to sell the land without issue after receiving a premium. They had been worried about potential holdouts, but no such thing happened.
There were underlying reasons, though. Most of the owners who had land in such rural areas were elderly.
"The company that makes Neurogen?"
"Ah! Of course, I must give it to you! I! Until a month ago, I was a dementia patient who couldn't even get out of bed!"
"You're the savior of my life... should I give it to you for free?"
It was because there were landowners who had regained their lives thanks to Neurogen.
They also diligently visited the public institutions where civil servants worked to obtain factory establishment permits. Upon hearing that the construction costs alone would reach the trillions, Daejeon City and the Gyeonggi-do cities gave their approval without looking at any conditions.
In the current ice age of employment, large-scale factories were always welcome. If an IT company had moved in, the job creation effect would have been small, but Jaeseong Bio was different.
They were building a manufacturing plant that would establish a factory and hire many people.
A factory that hires such production workers was the god of job creation. It wasn't for nothing that manufacturing was called the flower of job creation. In terms of business scale, it could be said that they hired the most people.
Anyway, from the city's perspective, there was absolutely no need to oppose the establishment of such a trillion-won factory. It was a business that was bound to be favored by local residents.
It could also become the politicians' own achievement. "We attracted such a large-scale factory!" They could talk about it as an accomplishment.
Besides, wasn't it Jaeseong Bio, the maker of Neurogen, the hottest dementia treatment? Although they were only allowed to distribute and sell the medicine in South Korea for now, if they could sell it worldwide as time passed, the future revenue was unimaginable.
"If you have any difficulties in securing the site or building the factory, please let us know at any time. Daejeon City will step up and help you."
They even assigned a separate civil servant for the establishment of the Jaeseong Bio factory. According to Daejeon City's calculations, a report stated that they could expect a job creation effect of tens of thousands of people once the Jaeseong Bio factory was established.
With this scale, there was sufficient reason for young people to come to Daejeon. Young people naturally flock to cities where there are plenty of jobs.
It wasn't for nothing that a mass exodus of young people was happening in Busan or other large cities. Young people prefer to work in their hometowns, but unfortunately, there weren't enough jobs in their hometown cities.
Jobs were practically extinct, except for civil servants or companies living off the government. It wasn't for nothing that young people left their beloved hometowns to come to Seoul. Seoul was at least a city with many jobs for young people.
Thus, Jaeseong Bio was able to build a factory with an enormous site size. It was a large-scale factory project that cost trillions just for establishment expenses.
Although they could save time and money in building the factory by secretly receiving help from the Genesis, it didn't mean it cost little money.
The construction alone would take nearly a year. Once the factory was completed, Jaeseong Bio would finally have the ability to produce medicine without the help of the Genesis.
I was on the spaceship.
Now I didn't need to worry about my parents' eyes. My parents had left for a world tour. It might sound a bit harsh to say this, but... the time when the possibility of getting caught with the spaceship's existence was highest was when I was at home.
If Mom or Dad caught me taking a portal to the spaceship, it would be a huge problem. Well, now I live alone in a penthouse, so I don't need to worry about that anymore.
"Is this it?"
"Yes, Jaeseong-nim."
I was able to arrive at a certain area of the spaceship with Soyeon. It wasn't much different from the place where they created the Cultured Humans. Capsules containing cutting-edge technology were placed there, just looking at them made that clear.
Soyeon said.
"This is the Bio-Editing Zone where you can change your appearance."
"Ohh..."
It was a place that would change my appearance if I stayed inside the capsule. It was much safer and less burdensome than plastic surgery. I could change it overnight, but I decided to change it slowly over 1-2 years instead.
Humans are creatures of change, so they don't notice well if it changes slowly.
"I just need to go inside here, right?"
"Yes."
I listened to Soyeon and went inside the capsule. Soyeon manipulated something, and soon the inside of the capsule was filled with a sticky liquid. For a moment, fear welled up that I might drown and suffocate while submerged in water.
But strangely, I could breathe inside the liquid. I heard that even in reality, there are liquids with high oxygen content that allow you to breathe... maybe this is that kind of liquid.
I closed my eyes, feeling the sensation of bogeul-bogeul bubbles rising up.
It was the only chance to change my ordinary appearance and height. It was a fact everyone knew well that a person's appearance was important. Didn't people undergo plastic surgery and dangerous jaw surgery to shave down their chins to change such appearances?
But I had absolutely no need to undergo surgery in such a dangerous way.
The Medical Ship took care of it for me.
