Revenge (4)
The beginning was classic. I hung him upside down and dunked him in water a few times.
“Gack!! Cough, cough!”
It’s only just begun, but seeing him already enjoying it so much makes me feel good, too.
“Don’t worry, Jin-cheol. Unlike you guys, I’m a nice person, so I won’t kill you.”
I hadn’t even asked a question yet, just introduced him to the water, and he was already giving me such a lovely glare.
“…Why are you looking at me like that?”
He was looking at me with eyes full of dissatisfaction, so I dunked him back into the water.
After holding him under for about two minutes and pulling him back out, his expression changed.
“W-what do you want? Ask me anything. I’ll tell you everything!!!”
“Hmm… your attitude is still quite disrespectful.”
What I want is for him to open his mouth and spill everything himself.
“Water doesn’t seem to be enough, does it? Does anyone have any ideas?”
The team members, who had been watching with curious expressions as if they’d never seen me like this before, exchanged glances.
While everyone was excitedly tossing out ideas, a robot approached me carrying a box.
‘What’s this?’
It looked like a robot controlled by Athena, so I asked, and the answer I got back was chilling.
> It is a sensory overload inducer.
The name alone made it sound like a terrifying object.
‘Nice.’
I opened the box, picked up the drug, and walked over to Jin-cheol.
“Jin-cheol~ let’s take your medicine~”
He must have known he shouldn’t take it, because even with his limbs bound, he twisted his whole body in resistance.
“Hmm… Carlos.”
I called over Carlos, who looked like the strongest of the bunch, to hold Park Jin-cheol’s body still.
I forced his mouth open and shoved the drug in, but there wasn’t much of a reaction at first.
‘No reaction? Why is that?’
There is a latency period for the drug to take effect. It should be fully circulated by now, so you may proceed as you wish.
Following Athena’s advice, I pondered for a moment before pulling out a lighter and igniting it near Park Jin-cheol’s skin.
With Carlos covering his mouth, Park Jin-cheol couldn’t even scream, his body trembling violently from the agony.
“Works like a charm. I only held it near his skin, and the reaction is top-tier.”
Perhaps the drug didn’t last long, but after trembling for about three minutes, Park Jin-cheol glared at me, drool dripping from his chin.
“You crazy bastard… I should have killed you back then, too.”
“But you didn’t, did you? Thanks to that, my personality got a bit twisted. It’s your own karma, Jin-cheol.”
I had been living a quiet life, but seeing us tangled up again, I suppose it’s fate.
“Anyway, don’t you have anything to say? Besides trying to provoke me.”
He seemed to be lacking in the common sense department, just glaring at me, so I played with him a little more.
“You’re rambling so much it’s hard to understand.”
To summarize, my father had caught wind of the massive corruption occurring during the succession process, and in the process of investigating it, he found out about sensitive matters from the past, which led to his death.
“Anyway, is that all?”
“Haa, haa…! That’s all. The former chairman ordered the hit during that process. I, I didn’t want to kill him.”
Seeing Park Jin-cheol desperately trying to minimize his responsibility, hoping that I would let him go, made my blood boil again.
“Does the current chairman know about this?”
“Of course… I even collected evidence just in case I got thrown away like a used tool.”
Thanks to Park Jin-cheol’s instinct for self-preservation, I didn’t have to go through any more trouble.
“Really? Where is that evidence?”
“That is…”
He hesitated to answer, perhaps realizing that the evidence was worth as much as his own life.
“Think carefully. If you don’t answer, I’ll make sure you end up in an even more horrific state.”
“There’s a Chungcheong Mutual Savings Bank in the town near Gongju, South Chungcheong Province… It’s in a safe deposit box there.”
“Do I need anything? Like a seal or something?”
“…It’s under the name of a homeless person born in ’56 with no family. He’s someone who died a long time ago, but I kept him alive on paper and made it in his name. The seal is behind a photo at my father’s charnel house.”
He seemed to have hidden and maintained it quite thoroughly.
‘Looks like I’ve squeezed everything out of him. Keep him locked up, but make sure he doesn’t lose his mind. I think I’ll need to bring a few more people here.’
Understood, Master.
I saw the robots approach, drag Park Jin-cheol away, and shove him into a capsule.
“Interrogation complete. We need to go to Gongju, South Chungcheong Province.”
I told the team members our next destination and got into the car.
After taking a quick nap in the car, I woke up to find it stopped on a street near the bank.
Master, we have arrived in front of the Chungcheong Mutual Savings Bank.
I downed a bottle of water to wake up, received the seal Jacob had retrieved, and walked into the bank.
I worried that they might be suspicious because I wasn’t Park Jin-cheol, but they opened the safe without any hesitation or doubt.
Inside the safe were a stack of documents in a leather bag, a USB drive, and a small voice recorder.
I couldn’t check the USB yet, so I just looked through the documents, but even just these would be enough to drag the Cheonmun owners to the prosecutor’s office en masse.
“Lobbying lists, construction contract corruption… wow…”
Most of the people who received bribes are either no longer in this world or the statute of limitations has expired, but even just releasing this would destroy the company’s moral standing, burying it underground.
After scanning the documents, I played the voice recorders, and an old man’s voice came through.
Evidence of murder instigation against people other than my parents poured out through the recorder.
“These guys are insane.”
Since Park Jin-cheol was the one in charge of the dirty work, most of the recordings were of illegal orders.
I have a rough idea of what is on the USB.
“What do you think it is?”
The documents and recordings don’t mention the succession process. Since the succession was a relatively recent matter, the USB likely contains information about that process.
I’ll have to wait until I get back to Seoul to see what’s on this USB.
Back at the office, I connected the USB to the computer, and Athena finished the analysis before I could even open the files.
Cheap accumulation through stock manipulation, and the current chairman—the son, that is—funneling group business to his own company to siphon off profits, even manipulating merger ratios. It’s the textbook definition of succession-related corruption.
While I was hesitating about what to look at first, Athena had finished analyzing all the data.
The evidence your father found is related to the merger ratio manipulation. It appears he was killed after discovering abnormal figures and attempting to report them to the audit team.
“This is absurd. What happens if I leak this?”
If you only leak the illegal succession, the impact might not be as large as you think. They won’t be able to avoid a prosecutorial investigation, but given the money they’ve spread around, there’s a high probability it will end in a slap on the wrist.
That might be true if I only leaked the illegal succession, but if I leak the other evidence we have along with it, I can bury Cheonmun.
My head was spinning with the complexity of the situation.
“All I want is for everyone responsible for my parents’ death to be ruined…”
Whether Cheonmun gets torn apart and dismantled because of the evidence I leak is none of my concern.
All I want is for the people responsible for my mom and dad’s death to suffer forever.
As I looked out the window and organized my thoughts, a conclusion began to form.
“I was wondering what the best way to screw over the owner family would be, but it seems Cheonmun itself is their Achilles’ heel.”
They’re the kind of people who would kill to protect a company; if that company is no longer theirs, wouldn’t they just die of rage?
“First, leak the evidence related to the illegal succession.”
And then?
“There aren’t many people left to protect them, and once the investigation starts, it’s almost 100% certain they’ll be arrested. At that point, I’ll lure them out with news that I’ve found a smuggling route and send them to join Park Jin-cheol. I’ll make sure they all suffer together so Jin-cheol isn’t lonely.”
So you’re going to take over the company once the owners are gone.
I hadn’t even finished speaking, but she’d already figured out my plan.
“How about it? Seeing their precious company fall into the hands of a stranger while they’re stuck in the bio center… I bet their blood pressure will skyrocket.”
That sounds good. Cheonmun itself is a fairly useful company, so it wouldn’t be bad to own it if you can.
“Right? It’s possible to just wipe Cheonmun off the map, but that would probably cause too much collateral damage to innocent people.”
Of course, I intend to send every single guilty person inside Cheonmun Group to prison.
“Black Ridge isn’t busy these days, right?”
They’re working quite hard. Not as much as during the Neo Gate acquisition, though.
“Then that means they’re free. I’ll throw them a job.”
Black Ridge will take the lead in devouring Cheonmun.
I will tell Arthur to start indiscriminate short selling. Shall I release the evidence immediately?
“Yeah. Media, communities, even SNS. Blanket the entire internet with it.”
Understood, Master.
“Jin-cheol must be lonely being tortured all by himself, so I should send him some company.”

Some crazy guy is spreading Cheonmun Group corruption files everywhere, does anyone know what this is?
Starting from a few community posts, news of the files began to spread online.
Not long after I leaked it on the internet, all the media outlets started pouring out breaking news.
Since the regular market was closed, the impact wasn’t huge, but as it moved beyond simple community rumors and was picked up by institutional media, the scale of the incident grew in an instant.
“The speed at which it’s spreading is no joke. Stimulating content really is the best.”
On the monitor, the angry public, chaotic communities, and the opinions of flustered experts were blending together to create massive confusion.
The Cheonmun Group PR team is claiming it’s groundless and that they will respond sternly to the spread of false information.
“Bullshit. The repertoire is always the same.”
Shall I release the rest as well?
“Yeah. Release everything regarding the succession process.”
I only released a little bit, and seeing it like this, I think releasing the entire succession process will cause absolute chaos.
“How is Park Jin-cheol?”
He has been administered hormone-related drugs, and his mental stabilization is complete. You may do as you wish at any time.
“Jin-cheol must be scared being all alone, so I should send him his friends.”
I plan to grab everyone from the former chairman to the current chairman and stuff them into the bio center forever.
