Revealing the Universe's First Middle School Girl Cam
Given the times we live in, streaming without a cam or an avatar was practically impossible.
It wasn't against any laws or site rules, but unless it was an extremely special case, finding viewers willing to watch a streamer who had neither was nearly impossible.
So I'd prepared one too.

"Hello. I'm Kim Haru, the puppy from space."
The avatar's eyes and mouth moved in perfect sync with mine. It was virtual avatar technology using facial tracking.
Well, someone scared of a simple convenience store part-time job wasn't about to suddenly show their real face on the internet.
This virtual avatar was something I'd bought off an internet site for a usage fee of five thousand won. For only five thousand won with full commercial rights? Total steal, right?

"Any complaints, humans? Wanting to see a middle school girl cam? You adults are asking for serious trouble. Want the whole group to get hauled off to the police station?"
They seemed to know wanting to see a middle school girl cam was a bad thing, because the chat's firepower weakened a little.
Since I'd pushed them back enough, it was time to pull them in again.
"Okay, okay. It's not worth getting this worked up over. Since you're mad, I'll apologize."
I clicked my mouse rapidly, changing the broadcast background to a green chroma-key screen. Then I positioned the virtual avatar in the center and apologized.
"Sowwy~"

Viewers who couldn't hold back and spewed raw curses, only to get shot down by the clean bot.
To be honest, I never imagined I'd actually hit five hundred viewers today.
I'd been bantering with chat like usual and pulled out the avatar as a joke to move on, but somehow we'd really crossed five hundred.
Scary. The invasion from the bad sites is no joke.
"But look here—the stream tag clearly says Vtuber, right? So this is my official cam. You should've read the description properly."
I love a burning chat window.
Back in my hako days, I'd have been grateful for one chat every minute. Seeing five messages per second now felt incredibly fresh and satisfying.
Still, dragging this topic out wouldn't be good for the stream.
First, let's hear why the bad-site invaders had shown up.
"So what's this alt account controversy about? I'm definitely a newbie playing I Am Hero for the first time today, okay?"
This was news to me.
I really was playing this game for the first time.
"Does winning four normal games in a row make me an alt account? I have no idea what you're even talking about or where you crawled out from."
"High-level players swarming in, threatening and harassing a newbie with nonsense they don't even understand. You people! This is cyber bullying! You know that? Want to go to the police station? Huh?"
Of course, in reality the chances of punishment for one-off terrorism like this were basically zero since persistence mattered.
But since this was a broadcast, I tried to keep the energy up and wrestle with chat.
An anonymous supporter has donated 1,000 Films!
"Go check the concept posts in the I Am Hero gallery. It's all explained there."
There was at least one good person willing to solve the situation.
Not that donating a thousand won made them good, exactly. Even on bad sites, brilliant humanity could still shine through.
"Thank you for the one thousand Films, Anonymous."
I thanked them and immediately visited the site to check the concept post.
The two newest posts. Both had nearly ten thousand views and were clearly sniping at me.
After reading the content, I was so genuinely lost that I had to ask.
"Um... are aerial combos hard?"
The reactions were strange.
Why was hitting an aerial combo supposed to be hard?
"Why is it hard to hit a stationary enemy?"
Honestly, the whole situation was hard to understand.
They thought my clean aerial combo meant I was Master tier?
Why was hitting an enemy floating in the air supposed to be difficult?
It wasn't countering or dodging or anything.
I couldn't believe it, so I asked again.
"Wait, so you're saying most people in this world can't even hit an enemy that's just floating in the air doing nothing?"
What the hell was going on?
Only then did I finally understand the situation and manage to summarize it in one line.
"So... if I boil the conclusion down to one sentence."
The impact of that single line was pretty intense.
"You're all here praising me because I'm too good at the game?"

Ah.
I really do love a burning chat window.
"Yeah, yeah. You understood perfectly. I'm so good at games that you've all gathered here to worship me, right?"
What had started as a simple alt account controversy instantly changed direction.
Now the fire had spread to boyfriend proxy controversy.
Who was a Master? I was a literal day-one newbie.
"I pull off one pretty aerial full combo and it's an alt account controversy. I don't authenticate with a face cam and it's a proxy controversy? You people really live exhausting lives."
It wasn't called a bad site for nothing.
At the same time, I could understand why these controversies happened.
Quite a few female streamers had been caught using the "good at games" concept while actually having someone else play for them.
It wasn't that the torch squad had collective delusional schizophrenia and went around setting fires. It was closer to reasonable suspicion built up from an area where cockroaches were frequently spotted.
Unfortunately there was no way to prove I wasn't using an alt account, but the proxy controversy was something I could clear up easily.
"Alright. Alright. I'll cleanly resolve the proxy controversy for you."
I was a streamer, after all.
Besides my phone, I did have a cam.
Of course I'd never broadcast my face over the internet before.
So I quickly finished setting up the hand cam.
I held a piece of paper up to the cam and wrote Broadcast Genius Kim Haru with a pen to authenticate myself.
"I'll prove it with the hand cam from now on, so that should cleanly resolve the proxy controversy, right?"
Half the people were already convinced just by the confidence of turning on the hand cam, while the other half watched with hawk eyes.
Over six hundred people were still watching the stream.
The biggest surge in my entire streaming history.
My heart pounded with joyful excitement.
A smile naturally formed on my lips.
