Triple Fusion: Obelisk's Colossus Golem! And the Three-Headed Chugota
The triple-fusion Obelisk Colossus Golem! And the three-headed Chugota. Not blue eyes, not a dragon, but if I had to give Chugota an epithet, it'd be something like the "Ultimate Green-Eyed White Wyvern." The showdown between the golem and Chugota was, in short, a massive big event.
What was unfortunate was that I wasn't spectating safely from afar—I was right in the middle of it, clinging to Wyvern Mom's back.
'It's just a golem, no big deal!' I pointed out the key fact. Sure, it had the cool name of Obelisk's Colossus, but it was still just a golem. And it looked way smaller than Chugota. Meanwhile, both these wyverns on our side were boss monsters through and through. Seletta was a named beast, too. She had to be stronger than that Silverback Chimpanzee Akimus. And yet Chugota had overwhelmed even Seletta's power. Could a mere golem really stand up to that?
—This guy...
My golem is incredible. But Pellelian said it like it was obvious. He wasn't the type to underestimate a named beast's threat level, so maybe that golem really was that strong.
'The guard golems I saw before weren't anything special...'
—Those were all broken.
The golems that had taught me magic under Pellelian. The ones guarding the dungeon had been half-destroyed, most of their functions lost, but originally, they must have been pretty powerful.
'Come to think of it, they had Destruction Beam.' And they could use advanced elemental magic. An impressive golem.
'But they were so stupid.'
Raw strength doesn't always mean victory. A water buffalo might be bigger and stronger than a lion, but a seasoned lion can take on a herd alone. Golems that froze if you covered their eyes. Even if those dumb, brute-force golems were intact now, I could probably beat them.
—The golems are stupid, true.
I half-expected him to snap at me like 'You idiot!', but Pellelian stayed surprisingly calm.
—But overwhelming output overcomes even that.
I soon learned what "output" meant. The golem leaped to the ground and yanked a spear from the stone floor. Nothing had been there before—it just emerged, so "yanked" was the only word for it. As someone versed in magic, I realized immediately.
—Advanced elemental magic: Earth Spear.
As long as its feet touched the ground, it could summon infinite spears like that. And their durability was no joke. The hole left in the stone was far bigger than the spear itself.
The golem stretched its arm back like a seasoned javelin thrower.
'Oho.' Definitely different from the dungeon golems. Its stone body, carved like living muscle, meshed and extended seamlessly.
—Dodge.
'Obviously!'
Fortunately, the golem targeted Chugota, the one who'd fired the beam. I yanked my vines, and Wyvern Mom twisted her body. Then the golem threw the spear.
Or at least, that's my guess. I didn't see the throwing motion. Just the pre-throw stance and the post-throw stance—like a film cut between frames, the middle sliced out and the ends spliced together.
A dizzying whoosh. That alone confirmed the throw. Then, belatedly:
Kiiiiing—
Not a whistle or a thud, but a kiing. The javelin had exceeded the speed of sound. The shockwave gale hit late, forcing me to plaster myself to Wyvern Mom's back to avoid being flung off.
—Heh heh heh, muhahaha!
Pellelian burst into mad laughter.
'What the hell was that? How?!'
I've rolled through this brutal world long enough. Among my foes were some true powerhouses—the named beasts of the Great Forest, heroes like Gunter. Superhuman physical feats can border on magic sometimes. But this was over the top.
'Even with that strength, is that possible?'
A javelin too fast for my eyes to track. Not just brute force.
—Layered acceleration magic. The pinnacle of my golemcraft.
It looked insanely impressive. And what was the horrific, beautiful result?
The spear pierced Chugota clean through.
"Grooooar—!"
A bellow that could have been a scream or a roar echoed thunderously. It punched through powerful skull and thick hide alike.
'Ah...'
But the spear had merely torn a hole in its wing.
'...Ah?'
Chugota didn't even plummet. Its massive wings were already riddled with scars and holes like badges of honor.
"Groar!"
The golem's merciless strike pierced the wing like a bullet and shattered a few innocent stone pillars beyond.
'Come on, what the hell!'
—Damn it. Precision control...
And now the golem that had shown such insane speed was moving sluggishly.
'Why'd it slow down again?'
—It needs recovery time.
Pellelian, facing another crisis of lost faith. But like some mad doctor droning "with more time and budget...," he brimmed with confidence.
—Don't worry. It's only at Defense Phase 1 now. Even Phase 2 would catch those three heads.
To trigger Phase 2? Apparently, some major disturbance. Wyvern Mom and Chugota tangling in battle fulfilled it.
"Kroooar!"
"Groooar!"
The four mouths' roars shook heaven and earth. The two wyvern queens abandoned their beam standoff and finally clashed.
Kaboom!
Biting, clawing, slamming. Their massive bulk meant even neck swings delivered devastating blows. Seletta's head struck "Ho"—no, "Chu"—staggering it. But simultaneously, "Ta" bit into Seletta's shoulder.
Thud—Boom!
Every pillar crash crumbled terrain. I sought ways to aid Wyvern Mom.
'Hellfire risks us all, Thunder Command too.'
Riding her back, the world flipped every ten seconds. Just enduring made me nauseous—precision strikes were impossible. Should I leap onto Chugota? Might be easier up close.
As I pondered, Pellelian shouted.
—Phase 2!
Looking back, something had changed. Two more golems crawled from the obelisk.
—All three emerging triggers Phase 2.
Would those two throw spears too?
"Kroooar!"
Wyvern Mom screamed in agony. One of Chugota's heads had torn into her chest. Blood sprayed; we began plummeting.
"Saaak!"
I avenged her. Dawn Dagger flew swift, embedding in "Ho"'s eye socket. A chilling shriek. But it ignored our fall, fixating on the new golems—the biggest threat, apparently.
Chugota didn't panic. A wing hole wouldn't faze a demon realm queen. It gathered its three heads for a triple Destruction Beam. Full power, no hesitation.
Whoom—!
The air-scorching light ray streaked. At the same point in midair, it hit an invisible shield like before. But Chugota meant business this time—the beam held steady.
Meanwhile, Wyvern Mom and I crashed to the ground.
Kaboom!
Brutal impact. She landed belly-first to shield me, but stars exploded in my vision. Dust clouds blinded everything. Still, better than dizzy skies. Staggering upright, I spotted shapes through the haze.
The golems clustered, arms outstretched to the sky—like fueling the shield. But beyond them: movement. Too ground-hugging for another wyvern, too bipedal for termites. Humans? No, dwarves? Gray Hammer clan? They were slipping into the stone tower while the golems focused upward. Ground-dwellers have blind spots. I lost sight of them in a blink.
'Hey, old man.'
About to tell Pellelian, he was sky-fixated.
—Impressive beast. Mana reserves that deep...
Incredibly, Chugota still beamed. How? My Ray drains mana fast if prolonged. Destruction Beam, far costlier, sustained from three heads.
Chugota's power matched its visuals.
—The shield...
'...is melting!'
The invisible wall blocking the beam wasn't infinite. The impact point glowed red-hot, melting.
Crack—
Glass-shattering; the arm-raised golems toppled en masse. Chugota won the beam duel decisively.
"Gugu-kuk, guk."
Mocking laughter, unmistakably. Chugota lowered its head to finish us below. Our eyes met.
"Gugugu—"
"Kieeeek!"
"Kyaaak!"
Its three heads roared in unison fury. Why the sudden rage?
'Wasn't it Obelisk's Colossus or whatever? Just a lame golem!'
—Not just any golem— a colossus...
Still so brazen in this mess. Then the fallen golems rose slowly.
—Shield broken. Triggers Phase 3.
'What happens in Phase 3?'
—Golems merge power to aggressively repel intruders.
'Not much different from before!'
—'Merge power' and 'aggressively.'
The risen golems charged. Not fast, though. And then what? But Chugota suddenly turned all its malice on us, frothing and bellowing. This wyvern had gone mad.
—W-Wait just a bit!
The berserk wyvern dove straight at us. No choice. Fleeing alone would squash Wyvern Mom flat.
'Isil!'
I steeled for a showdown with Superheated Hellblade.
—Fusion!
'What?!'
Urgent chaos, but Pellelian's voice yanked my gaze to the golems. No lie. The three charged and merged into one. Transforming into a gigantic new golem, its red eyes flashed as it accelerated.
Rumble-rumble-crunch!
Kaboom!
Earthquake roar and bone-cracking hit near-simultaneously. The charging golem had passed us. And Chugota, diving at us—
—I told you. It'd block easily.
This time, I let Pellelian gloat. One head fully shattered. No longer Chugota—just Chugo... or Go.... Anyway, served it right!
