Gate on the Brink of Collapse
“Aaaah…! Lost again…!”
Jeon Yu-i wailed at the massive DEFEAT plastered across her screen.
She'd meant to play just one round before logging off.
But after losing the first, she thought she'd win the next and call it quits—somehow, it was now 3 a.m.
Jeon Yu-i was an A-class Hunter in the real world, but her gaming skills were downright trash.
“Gotta stop here…”
Finally snapping out of her dopamine haze, she regained her senses.
She needed sleep, and tomorrow she'd play other games anyway.
Jeon Yu-i messaged her gaming buddy.
The duo ended on an awkward note.
They'd lost every match, but neither was pissed.
That's what Jeon Yu-i liked about WannaGetHired.
He never got mad, even duoing with a noob like her.
“But didn't he say he was job hunting…? And working night shifts too?”
The thought hit her late.
WannaGetHired was a busy job seeker.
This was the first time he'd gamed till 3 a.m.
Usually, he'd suggest wrapping up at a reasonable hour, but tonight he'd kept going.
“This much is fine to ask, right…?”
Asking about real life could be touchy.
But his unusual vibe bugged her.
Maybe he'd landed a job.
If so, she'd congratulate him.
“Awakened?”
Jeon Yu-i blinked in shock at WannaGetHired's reply.
She'd thought he got hired, not awakened.
But WannaGetHired's response felt lukewarm.
He'd always griped about ditching job hunting for awakening.
Yet now that it happened, he seemed meh.
“Bad class maybe?”
Not every awakener hit it big right away.
Rare useless E-class existed, and late-bloomers needed time to shine.
Jeon Yu-i typed carefully.
“Hmm… probably fine?”
WannaGetHired logged off.
Didn't seem worth worrying over.
“Time for bed…”
Jeon Yu-i shut down her PC and hit the sack.
But now that she tried, her mind was wide awake.
Maybe the dopamine crash from all those losses?
She tossed and turned, then opened the Awakener channels.
Might as well check the latest Hunter news since she was up.
She'd been dungeon crawling for weeks, barely glancing at Korean channels.
“Angma…? Channels are flooded with this person.”
The Korean Awakener channel was plastered with one new Hunter's story.
Not just Korean—global channels were flipped by 'Angma'.
“15,162 points? Possible?”
Jeon Yu-i gawked, late to the news.
Blasted past Messiah's score?
And a Korean at that?
No wonder the world was losing it.
“Guild was buzzing on my way home—must've been this.”
6,000 points above Messiah on floor 1.
Floor 1.
Potential off the charts.
“Please don't emigrate…!”
Jeon Yu-i prayed Angma would stay and save Korean Hunters.
With someone that OP, she'd game worry-free.
“WannaGetHired awakened recently too…”
The thought of her buddy popped up.
Around the same time as Angma.
“Nah, no way.”
Jeon Yu-i dismissed the absurd idea.
For a second, she'd wondered if they were connected.
But the odds were zilch.
Why'd she even think that?
“Gotta boot up Pokopia first thing tomorrow…”
She browsed channels a bit more till sleep hit.
Next morning, Jeon Yu-i woke ready to game.
But…
“Ah, uh… An A-class gate? Ah, I was on one yesterday too… Ah, no Hunters available rn? Seriously, if this bursts, Korea's done? Ah, but… Ah, need electric-class badly? Ah, yeah, yeah… Fine, no choice… Yeah……”
Another gate burst loomed—she tearfully quit the game.
The next day.
I decided to tackle Tower floor 2 first.
Cleared Tower of Trials Floor 2!
Clear Score: 15,229 points
“Only 67 points up… I lack the face to show you, Lady Lucy.”
“You're already crushing it. Doubt we can top this score.”
“Lady Lucy praises me…!”
“…”
Floor 2 was another blowout thanks to Asmodeus.
Enemies: red hobgoblin hordes.
Snap once—boom, all gone.
Updated Tower of Trials Floor 2 Ranking!
Issuing Tower of Trials Floor 2 Clear Rewards!
Reward List: C-class Magi Stone x2, C-class Recovery Potion...
Ranked #1 again.
Easily beat Messiah's record.
Rewards similar: two C-class Magi Stones, assorted C-class items.
No skillbook.
Sell 'em all.
Leveled up twice to Lv. 2…
Recovered Magi: 70/???????????
Magi jumped from 50 to 70.
10 per level up.
D-class skill gave 30.
Skills recover more Magi than levels.
“Floor 3 tomorrow then? I'll score higher!”
“Can't hit the Tower tomorrow. Floor 1-2 is one per day, but higher floors have longer cooldowns.”
The Tower isn't free challenge.
Cooldown after exit.
1 day for floor 2, 3 days for 3, more after.
Hunters rarely care—floors ramp exponentially.
They grind gates between, challenge when ready.
Not like me, rushing cooldowns—needs top class.
“Understood. Now gates?”
“Yup. Outta the Tower first.”
We left, back to the room.
Sold rewards on Awakener Exchange.
Checked Awakener channels too.
“Chaos already, minutes after clear.”
Global channels exploding.
They'd fixated on floor 2 rankings while I cleared.
Guilds hunting me outright now.
Unregistered awakeners are common.
Whole guild frenzy for one? Wild.
Can't catch me anyway.
Flipping channels, spotted a hot non-Angma post.
About a Jamsil A-class gate.
“Eek…”
Jamsil A-class water gate about to burst.
Gates burst if uncleared by deadline—monsters flood out.
Bigger gates, longer timers.
Entry limit: 13 Hunters for Jamsil.
Clear with just 13—tough.
No limits? Easy clears.
But limits force optimal teams.
“Burst in central Jamsil? Disaster…”
If burst, all Hunters swarm monsters—no limits post-burst.
But massive civilian damage.
Jamsil heart? Catastrophic.
“Ouch… that looks rough.”
Jeon Yu-i's injury pic was brutal.
Cute, dedicated gate-runner—I liked her.
Korean channels, Hunter galleries ablaze with Jamsil talk.
YouTube news covering gravely.
Seoul panic spreading.
“An A-class gate…”
