Chapter Title: Became the Gallery's Only Reptile
-----------------------------------------------------------------
"You can't just bring home something that weird."
"Look at me now. My tail, ears, and even the hair on my head are all standing on end because of that thing. And this is me now—if I were in my old form, just imagine."
What am I doing right now?
Why am I bowing my head to Cheong, shrinking like some criminal who's been caught?
And why is Cheong standing there with her hands on her hips, unloading on me like this?
Yeah, the culprit behind all this is that thing right there.
It was a branch infused with lightning that Silpi was fiddling with in her hands.
A serendipitous find from a village long abandoned by humans.
Naturally, since it accumulates thunder energy just by keeping it nearby, I brought it home.
Zzt.
I sneak a glance up to take in Cheong's appearance.
Her tail and ears sticking straight up like they've been hit by static electricity. And her white hair spiking out in every direction, just like something out of a cartoon.
I'm fine. Silpi's fine. But Cheong's the only one reacting to that branch.
And not in a good way—definitely in a very bad way.
Thwack. Thwack.
Her tail, clearly in a foul mood, keeps slapping the ground while staying rigidly straight.
And Silpi sneaks up to her where she can't see, then ever so lightly brushes the branch against her arm.
Zzzzt.
"Ow, that stings!"
"Ugh! Silpi, I told you not to do that!"
Cheong, startled by the sudden tingling shock, narrows her eyes at Silpi.
It's still amazing no matter how many times I see it.
When we touch it, it's just a normal branch. But when it touches Cheong, it discharges electricity like crazy.
"Anyway! Store this outside somewhere! If you bring it into the cave, I won't let it slide!"
At least she's not telling me to throw it away—that's something.
I take the branch from Silpi and head out of the cave to scout a storage spot.
I find a spot about 100 meters from the cave entrance, hollow out a dead tree, and stash the branch inside.
I clump some mana around the area to mark it, so I won't forget where it is. Should be easy to find.
What's up with this guy who's been lurking suddenly messaging me?
And the tone in that PM is unusually stiff.
But since it's from History Restoration Maniac of all people, I decide to check the Gallery and read his post before heading back to the cave.
A post pinned at the top with massive popularity catches my eye.
This has to be the one History Restoration Maniac posted.
Wonder what it's about to be this popular.
-Author: History Restoration Maniac I really hope all users read this post. It's got some incredibly important info. Thanks to the recent newbies, we've all learned about the PvP content. And around that time, I got an offer from the System. It asked if I'd help with its work. I accepted the System's request, and now that I'm seeing results, I'm posting this. First off, let me say this clearly. Just wait a bit longer... Soon, we'll be able to meet up with each other.
We can meet each other?
How is that even possible?
One piece of info flashes through my mind.
History Restoration Maniac's work with the System was about dimensional rifts.
Obviously, this meeting thing is related to that too.
'I hope it's not dangerous.'
Something the Wind Spirit King told me makes a sliver of worry bubble up from his words.
Plus, thinking back to what happened during the Gallery maintenance check...
"Eeeel! Where'd you gooo?"
From skimming the post, it seems things have already progressed to a certain point.
All I can do is keep acting as usual and watch.
No reply yet, but since he's one of the sharper users in the Gallery, I'll trust him for now. To shake off the unease from History Restoration Maniac's post, I refresh the Gallery to check the new uploads.
The posts are a mix of the usual fare and some fresh ones, balancing out nicely.
HistRestManiac. I'm taking your word for it and finally washing up after ages? I usually bathe once a week, but it's only been 4 days and here I am. I'm so hyped lol. -Ah f*ck. -Teacher. Doesn't it itch? └(OP): It's bearable. └Why bear it tho -No way those kinds of guys exist? For real? └(OP): lol └Pls say it's a joke f*ck └Now I'm scared to meet up after reading this. └I hear the Gallery average dropping!
One post is dragging down the Gallery's average user level.
No way that's real... it has to be a joke... please be one.
A few more related to History Restoration Maniac.
And most are just casual chit-chat.
Finally, a post from someone connected to me that I never saw coming.
Master? Galju! Please help me! I got into the Academy, but the professors act like they've completely forgotten me—they don't even call attendance! My classmates ignore me too! At this rate, I'll have to solo the main quest. What do I do?! -Whoa, forced solo play difficulty is wild. └(OP): This isn't funny! -But how is that even possible? └(OP): No idea! It's so frustrating ㅠㅠ
Checking the author's nickname, it's that unique newbie I helped before.
Memories of helping her with her pitiful story—failing the exam and missing the Academy—come flooding back.
Back then, that trait made things pretty dire, but from the post, it looks like she made it into the Academy somehow.
As far as I know, Assassins' Exemplar shouldn't have an effect that extreme.
She could've just replied to one of my comments on an existing thread, and I'd get a notification for easy chatting.
Making a whole new post—what if I miss it?
From a few chats with the user TwinkleTwinkle, I figured out her innate ability. Unable to find a solution, I end up suggesting the solo hero route.
If what TwinkleTwinkle says is true, she might achieve a legendary feat impossible even in the game.
Of course, to that newbie, this is like a bolt from the blue.
She fought tooth and nail to get in, sweating bullets, and now I'm telling her to quit voluntarily.
I'll enable her—only her—to pull off a once-in-a-lifetime legendary achievement that even I can't dream of.
What? Why'd she decide that quick?
