How to Use the Hero
Hey.
Been seeing a lot of newbies lately getting shanked by the Hero and watching their runs explode, so I figured I’d drop by and teach you how to actually use her.
First, let’s talk about why you newbies keep catching a sword to the gut from the Hero in the first place.
The Hero’s a mental case, right? She’s got PTSD.
You really think someone like that is gonna fight properly if you just shove her onto a battlefield?
Nah. The second her trauma switch gets hammered like a sewing machine going bababababap, she starts seizing out, lol.
Even a regular person having a breakdown is hard enough to restrain. When the strongest human alive has one, of course every ally standing next to her gets wiped off the map.
Anyway, this keeps happening because newbies still think of the Hero as a hero.
Stop thinking of the Hero as a hero. She’s not a hero anymore. She’s a patient.
But don’t think of her as a patient either. If you do, you’ll get all careful and hesitant when you try to use her.
There’s one principle you absolute newbies who want to use the Hero need to install in your brains:
The Hero is a weapon.
Not a person.
If you think of her as a person, you can’t use her.
Once you’ve chanted “the Hero is a weapon” a hundred times in your head like I told you, follow me to the next post.
Now I’ll actually tell you how to use this broken-ass weapon called the Hero.
You already know why she got PTSD, right?
Just in case some of you don’t, here’s the short version: she strutted into the Abyss of Despair full of confidence and got her ass handed to her.
More precisely, every member of the Hero’s party came back crippled—except her. She walked out with all four limbs intact, and that’s what gave her the PTSD.
The warrior lost both legs that were supposed to plant him to the earth.
The saintess lost both hands that were supposed to offer prayer.
The archer lost the right arm that drew the bowstring. The mage had his vocal cords ripped out so he couldn’t chant.
And the Hero watched every second of it with her own two eyes.
The comrades she’d lived and died with all became wrecks, and she couldn’t do a single thing but stand there and watch.
How do you think that felt? Of course she got PTSD, lol.
Alright! And this is the part we need to focus on.
The cause of that PTSD—the crippled members of the Hero’s party—are exactly what you need to use the Hero.
If you want to use the Hero, you can’t just recruit the Hero alone. You have to bring the entire Hero’s party in as allies too.
Once you’ve got the party members as well, move on to the next post.
The next one’s the final strategy for using the Hero.
Got the whole Hero’s party as allies?
They’re all retired, so recruiting them must’ve been a pain in the ass. Good work.
But if you’ve got the Hero and her party members under your banner, the prep work is done.
From here on it’s stupidly easy, so just start dreaming about how hard you’re gonna flex that broken Hero.
Alright, first I’ll explain the principle that lets you control the Hero however you want.
I said it in part 2. The Hero’s party members are the cause of her PTSD.
She watched them all get crippled right in front of her—bodies torn, severed, cut, ripped—while she couldn’t do a thing.
That became her trauma, and her spirit broke until she was half a wreck.
We’re going to use that trauma.
Specifically, by sacrificing the party members one by one when a battle breaks out.
The self-loathing from failing to protect them and the terror of losing them again are what forged that trauma.
So when a fight kicks off, you throw the Hero’s party members out one at a time as sacrifices. The trauma detonates, and the Hero’s eyes roll back.
A Hero whose eyes have rolled back will wipe out the enemies who killed her party members. Guaranteed.
She doesn’t thrash around seizing and stabbing everything nearby like usual. She systematically guts only the enemies.
That is the true way to use the Hero.
Every time you run into some absurdly strong enemy and think “ah fuck how do I even win this,” just toss one of the Hero’s party members as a sacrifice and it’s pure honey, lol.
There are four of them—warrior, archer, saintess, mage—so you’ve got a broken weapon you can fire a full four times.
Of course, just because you can use it four times doesn’t mean you should use all four.
If every party member dies, the Hero either kills herself or falls to corruption. The former’s fine, but the latter ends your run.
So if you’re gonna use it, stop at three times max, lol.
If this helped, smash that upvote.
“……Y-y-y-young master, th-that guest who was supposed to be incredibly strong… w-w-was the Hero?”
“Yeah. Nothing wrong with what I said, right? Super strong guest, correct?”
“No, it’s not about ‘nothing wrong with what you said’! If I’d known the Hero was coming, I would have prepared much better tea!”
“That’s just being unreasonable, Rina. With what time and what money were you going to get better tea?”
“Th-that may be true, but……!”
Rina was flustered and worked up in a completely different register from when Rien of the Ten Swords of the Kingdom had visited, unable to settle herself at all.
Because the guest seated across the reception-room table was Eve, the Hero.
“If you’d known the Hero was coming, you should have told me in advance……!”
“How was I supposed to tell you when you’re like this? I already know exactly how much you like the Hero.”
“Ugh…… That’s… true. If I’d known the Hero was coming, I wouldn’t have been able to sleep properly and my condition would have been a mess.”
Rina was a hardcore fan of Hero Eve.
Probably because Eve, like her, had been born a commoner.
Of course, even setting origin aside, Hero Eve’s achievements were the object of admiration and envy for people across the entire world.
There wasn’t a soul living in this age who hadn’t received the Hero’s grace, so Rina getting this excited at the sight of her wasn’t strange in the slightest.
“……G-Gid.”
“Hm? What is it, sis? If you’ve got something to say, say it yourself. You came all the way here—you should handle your own words.”
“U-uuu. S-sorry, Gid.”
While Rina and I bickered, the Hero had tried to get her younger brother Gid—the warrior of the Hero’s party—to speak for her, only to get shut down.
Dressed in a rumpled T-shirt and what looked like dolphin shorts, the kind of clothes you’d wear lounging around the house, the Hero kept glancing at me out of the corner of her eye before finally forcing her mouth open with visible effort.
“I-I… h-heard the news and c-came. Th-the Termin house… d-destroyed the Abyss of the Army……”
Just as I’d expected. The Hero had come because she’d heard that the Termin house had destroyed a Great Rift.
She was someone who had gained a horrific trauma from a Great Rift, who feared and hated the Great Rifts more than anyone else in the world.
So of course the moment she heard that the Termin house had destroyed the Abyss of the Army, she would have had no choice but to come straight here.
Pleased that the Hero had acted exactly as I’d predicted, I smiled and answered her.
“Yes, that’s correct, Hero. The Abyss of the Army was destroyed by our Termin house. More precisely, I destroyed it.”
“H-how on earth……”
“No kidding. At a glance he just looks like some pretty boy who’s never done a day of exercise in his life.”
At my answer, Hero Eve and warrior Gid both wore expressions that said they couldn’t quite accept it.
The two of them were heroes who had surpassed their limits, and both possessed the eye to measure an opponent’s strength.
In those eyes of theirs, I naturally looked like nothing more than a skinny weakling with no power whatsoever.
Because I was, in fact, a skinny weakling.
The difference was that I had a button that launched missiles with a single click, plus the knowledge of a Crack Kingdom veteran.
So I simply smiled at the two of them and laid the first stone of my grand design.
“If the two heroes wish to know how I destroyed the Abyss of the Army, I can tell you… but first, you’ll have to grant me one request.”
“A r-request……?”
“What kind of request?”
To their questions I kept my gentle smile and answered.
“Please stay in our territory. Both of you—Hero and warrior.”
I intended to bring the Hero and the entire Hero’s party into my territory.
So that I could use the Hero the veteran’s way.
