Lakia is, by her own insistence, an ordinary human.
That would be much easier to believe if dragons would stop calling her "Mother."
What begins with rescuing a single abandoned hatchling quickly snowballs into another, then another, until Lakia somehow finds herself at the center of dragon society, raising generations of impossibly powerful children who adore her far more than they fear her. While the dragons see a legendary figure worthy of reverence, Lakia mostly worries about teaching them manners, keeping them out of trouble, and convincing them not to use Dragon Speech on their mother.
After all, every family has its challenges. Most families just don't breathe fire.
