My Mom's a Total Knockout (1)
Half Half Island is a world from a webtoon. I'd heard from my ballsy friend, who used to be a scenario writer, that it was a story with stunning artwork, and I proved that true for myself by possessing the body of the main heroine, Ban Do-young. Thanks to the artist's killer drawing skills, not just Do-young's friends but even the side characters she didn't interact with much—all of them had their own unique charm and good looks, if not quite on her level.
Even An Seong-gyeong with her freckles, red glasses, and curly hair had a big chest, and that punk delinquent Lee Jeong-gyu was tall and handsome. By their own accounts, they were just your average high schoolers anywhere in the world. Staring at the male lead with his extraordinary looks kicking off the story under that smokescreen of "normalcy" always made me clench my fist involuntarily. What the hell is "normal," anyway?
But after entering the world of Half Half Island, I finally got a tiny glimpse of what that word might feel like. Still, if I had to rank them, I'd pick the Ban Do-young staring back at me from the mirror every morning as the number one girl, no hesitation. Oh, and dead last for guys right now is that Do Ha-min kid. Purely on looks, ignoring personality, wealth, fighting skills, or guts—probably not climbing the ranks anytime soon.
I figured this mental ranking wouldn't flip until I saw the story's ending. Sure, Do Ha-min might earn his way up if he shapes up, but the main heroine Ban Do-young dropping from the top spot? Fat chance.
"Nice to meet you, Do-young's mom. I'm Cheok Jun-sook."
Uh oh. This feels a bit dicey...
"F-First, get in the car. Better than standing here yapping forever, right? You too, Ha-min. I'll drop you at the station."
"N-No, it's fine. It's not far; I can walk... especially after you got me new glasses."
"No, come on. I want to hear all about my daughter's friend anyway."
"Just get in. It's not like adding one more person is gonna make gas prices skyrocket."
"...Th-Thank you."
So after wrapping up at the optician's, Do Ha-min and I piled into Dad's car with the four of us heading out together.
"I heard from your dad on the way from the airport. You're starting kendo again?"
"Yeah, teaching this guy here."
"I see... Well, sometimes you kick things off with something small, no big trigger needed."
This wasn't my first time seeing Cheok Jun-sook, Ban Do-young's mom. Back when I first possessed her body, I'd glanced at the family photo at home—five of them all together. But it back didn't stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir stir
