Chapter Title: Became the Goddess of the New World
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Before launching the virtual reality game, there were a few things I needed to settle first.
First up, the game name.
"Akashic Records. What do you think?"
It wasn't like I was too lazy to come up with a name and just borrowed Aka-chan's on a whim. Absolutely not.
"... "
Aka-chan's sullen gaze made me feel a bit uncomfortable as she stared at me.
In times like these, the best approach was to brazen it out.
"Since it's a beta test and early release, we can... divide the Cataclysm Objects into seasons with updates."
Aka-chan let out a small sigh at my shameless attempt to change the subject.
They say it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission?
That saying fit this situation perfectly.
And so, Akashic Records Season 1 was planned. The raid boss would naturally be the Elder Lich.
Just calling it Season 1 felt too bland, so the subtitle would be "Sprouting Calamity."
'Personally, I'd prefer Cataclysm over calamity.'
But according to Aka-chan, the Elder Lich wasn't quite cataclysm-level.
More importantly, "calamity" had a better ring to it image-wise than "cataclysm."
'Cataclysm sounds so hopeless, without dreams or hope.'
For those reasons, I settled on "calamity" instead of "cataclysm."
"Next up, we need to finalize the classes."
The real otherworld wasn't a game, so jobs weren't clearly defined there.
That meant we had to establish clear class distinctions, which was an absolute must.
I dove into the work, and before I knew it, a surprisingly large number of classes had been created.
Mercenaries, knights, hunters, mages, clerics...
'Some of these should be sub-classes.'
Things like blacksmiths or appraisers didn't fit as main classes.
Other RPGs did the same. There was always a reason people followed similar patterns.
'Balancing them might be tricky, though.'
Thinking about balance issues made my head spin for no reason.
'Eh, it should be fine.'
-Broken balance creates demand.
The game industry even had proverbs like that.
Of course, that assumed the game was fun to begin with.
"Master. Need help."
While we were working on our respective tasks in the virtual reality space, Aka-chan requested assistance.
"What can I help with?"
"Need action scene with Elder Lich for the trailer."
"Hmm... I could do it, but is it really necessary?"
"Affirmative. Essential for an impressive trailer."
An impressive trailer, huh.
Well, the Elder Lich was the Season 1 boss.
Even a snippet of battle footage against that boss would build more hype for viewers.
Of course, I wasn't an expert in this area, so I couldn't say for sure.
Still, a flashy combat scene seemed key to sparking interest.
At least, that's what I thought.
'It looked pretty tough, though...'
Suddenly, memories of subjugating the Ancient Necromancer flooded back.
Rotting flesh clumps. Fetid blood stench. Screams. Mountains of corpses.
"... "
Not the fondest memory.
Ah, my mood just soured.
"Summon the Elder Lich for me?"
Let's get this over with quick.
◇◇◇◆◇◇◇
Aka-chan summoned the Elder Lich and switched to spectator mode.
She immediately began her specialty: recording the world.
What she was recording was the great hero Aurora's battle with the Elder Lich.
Thud... Thud...
The backdrop was the audience chamber of a ruined ancient kingdom.
At the far end of the audience chamber sat a throne soaked in bloodstains.
And seated upon it was the Elder Lich.
In one hand, a black inverted cross that denied the gods.
In the other, a rotting staff that denied life.
It exuded an eerie aura that would turn any ordinary person into an undead just by approaching.
Walking slowly toward this perilous being was the now-legendary hero.
Holy light infused the laurel crown worn by the hero, Aurora.
A divine artifact crafted by the Empire solely for this one hero.
Fwosh-!
Aurora kicked off the ground, drew her sword in a preemptive strike, and slashed at the air.
It might look like a miss at first glance, but it was anything but.
Aurora's specialty wasn't swordsmanship or martial arts—it was magic.
Having ascended to the pinnacle of magic, she needed no weapons.
So why did Aurora insist on using a sword?
Simple.
To lure the enemy into dropping their guard.
The Elder Lich fell for it hook, line, and sinker, its gaze fixated on Aurora's aerial slash.
In that instant, multiple layers of magic circles materialized above the Elder Lich's head.
Blue, the devouring sea.
Red, the eternal flame.
Green, the ancient great tree.
Even archmages had to chant spells for high-tier magic.
But Aurora wasn't your typical archmage—she was a human bearing a Dragon Heart.
Embedding the embodiment of arrogance, a dragon's heart, into one's body?
It was a choice that should've killed her outright, but Aurora endured.
Driven by her mission to protect the otherworld from cataclysm.
That's why Aurora was strong.
No, she had to be strong.
―――!!!
The Elder Lich's silent scream filled the audience chamber.
The skeletal figure's expression twisted in agony.
A body that shouldn't feel pain... yet the Elder Lich did.
"...The power of the divine artifact."
The Genesis Laurel Crown, obtained from the church in exchange for returning one holy relic.
A cheat item that constantly bestowed divine blessings upon its wearer.
That said, the earlier ambush hadn't dealt a fatal blow.
The Elder Lich's skull had been blown clean off, but that was irrelevant.
The true body—the Life Vessel weakness hidden somewhere—that was key.
As long as the Life Vessel existed, the Elder Lich could regenerate indefinitely.
💥 CRITICAL HIT! 💥
-Elder Lich's Skull Shattered!
Life Vessel Intact - Regeneration Imminent
-How dare you defy the transcendent of death!!!
With the Elder Lich's resounding cry, the surrounding corpses rose.
Eerie energy filled the space, denying all life.
Kabooom-!
Dodging the swarming undead and defending against the Elder Lich's barrage of black magic.
Aurora put on an "action" scene perfect for a trailer and shifted her gaze.
Toward Aka-chan, who was recording and filming everything in spectator mode.
'Is this enough?'
Nod, nod.
Aka-chan nodded in response.
Seeing that, Aurora sheathed her sword.
At the same time, she unleashed massive mana to clear the area, then activated Dragon Tongue.
[Dragon's End.]
"[Dragon's End.]"
⟨ Meteor ⟩
A spell once used by a great archmage to hunt a newly matured dragon.
Meteor.
A sizzling rift in the form of a magic circle tore open in the ceiling.
Beyond it, a massive boulder slowly growing in size.
A single star, wreathed in flames, solemnly heralded the end as it descended.
"The fastest way to find the Life Vessel is this, right?"
Aka-chan broke into a cold sweat hearing Aurora's mutter.
BOOM-!!!
And just like that, the world created for the trailer was obliterated by Aurora's Meteor.

📰 Breaking News
Saw it on Nimgle and checked it out separately, but wtf is up with that final battle scene quality? Thought it was just some generic viral bait, but nope. Midway through, the quick cuts made it a bit dizzying, but it felt intentional to build tension. The BGM fading to silence at the end? Perfect pacing control. Especially that insanely hot mage? Sword-mage? Watching her go toe-to-toe with the skull bastard had me in awe the whole time. Upvotes: 58 | Downvotes: 0

The Indie Games board was pure chaos.
Real VR? Nah. Who cares, maid's hot.
Trailer quality nuts. Nah. Who cares, mage tits insane.
Bait posts using the hype, hate image raids, fake upvotes.
The board, which had only major game patches for bait lately, was fully ablaze.
Meanwhile, the one who lit the fuse...
"Nngh... Nyaaawm..."
...had made the sleepless Chun-sik(?) pull an all-nighter and was deep in sweet slumber alone.
