Synopsis
I reincarnated into the Spring and Autumn and Warring States period. But something about the whole situation felt distinctly off.
The moment I opened my eyes, I was no longer in the twenty-first century. Instead I found myself lying in an ornate bed carved from dark sandalwood, surrounded by whispering attendants in flowing robes who kept calling me “Your Highness the Crown Prince.”
At first I thought it was a dream. A very elaborate, historically accurate dream. Then a eunuch with a voice like dry leaves recited my new identity, and my blood ran cold.
Ji Dan. Crown Prince of Yan. The same Ji Dan who, in the history I remembered, would watch his kingdom crushed beneath the iron heel of Qin, only to be remembered as a tragic footnote—the prince who failed to stop the unification.
But that wasn’t the strangest part.
The strangest part was the face I saw reflected in the bronze mirror they held up for me. It was undeniably mine, yet not. The features were sharper, the eyes darker, the bearing unmistakably royal. And when I spoke, the voice that came out was calm, measured, and carried the accent of an ancient court I had only read about in books.
I knew how this story was supposed to end. I knew the blood, the betrayals, the slow march toward annihilation. I knew because I had studied it for years, never imagining I would one day have to live it.
Yet here I was. Inside the body of a doomed prince. In a doomed kingdom. With the weight of an empire’s future pressing down on shoulders that still remembered the light touch of a laptop keyboard.
I drew in a slow breath, tasting incense and distant rain on the air.
Very well.
If history wanted to make me its puppet, I would cut the strings and rewrite the script myself.
Even if that meant turning the entire Warring States on its head.
