The Best Way to Counter Alien Creatures is to Unleash Our Own (3)
***
And just like that, we injected a special virus into the Red Scourge tunnel network on the satellite orbiting Milano-VI.
Aiming for fratricide among their own kind, or straight-up turning them into Black Scourge.
We handled it neatly and effectively.
I didn't exactly plan it out that meticulously, but the damage ended up way below what the client corporation had braced for.
We successfully wiped out the Red Scourge on that satellite with minimal losses.
And it wasn't like we came out even—we turned a desperate interstellar corp that was grabbing at any cat's paw into one slapping us with a perfect five-star review.
Which, in a way, makes sense.
In reality, when something spectacular blows up right in front of you?
Instead of running, some idiots whip out their phones and start filming.
Turns out it's no different in this world.
After exterminating the Red Scourge on that satellite and clearing some of the remaining nests,
we negotiated with the corporation to repurpose the rest as breeding grounds and nests for the Black Scourge legion.
Then, right after boarding the ship with my troops and heading back to beloved Heisenberg City…
"Whoa, notifications are blowing up."
"Looks like miners from the corporate base on the Milano-VI satellite filmed the Red Scourge extermination and uploaded it to the planetary network."
"It's gone viral!"
"Word of mouth, you could say."
Thanks to this unintended viral marketing, interstellar corporations and city governments across the system flooded our branch office with inquiries and requests.
Oh, and worth mentioning again at this point: back during the big Red Scourge purge on Milano-V about two weeks ago.
I'd preached strict give-and-take to the cities supporting me.
And word must've spread on the planetary network about how I forced payment from the one that backstabbed us after pretending to help.
"We're planning to sign a full MOU with the Demonia Empire side."
"Please come to us!"
"Hey, if you talk all fancy like that, she might just ghost you!"
"If needed, we can pull retired stockpiled ships from our warehouse and bring them here fast!"
"Whoa, no need to go that far, uh…"
I posted it to the gallery right away, and boom—waves of envy and jealousy pumping through the users.
The title nailed it: near-obsessive freakouts across the whole system.
The flood of requests was insane, pushing our branch's admin department—100-ish Chimera soldiers and regular troops—to literal overload, on the verge of short-circuiting.
But everyone wanting us like this? Means the power dynamic flipped to "us as the boss."
"How far did you scope it out?"
"Tough to quote upfront."
First time around, we had to prove results, so we followed their procedures.
Now? Solid track record, delivering "low damage, high performance" no one else can match.
Even with upfront quotes, requests poured in like crazy.
But some folks still treated us like errand boys.
Adding real-time addendums, tampering contracts to turn us into private mercs.
Worse: after we reclaimed a mining base from Red Scourge, they tried slashing the reward post-job.
The nastiest? The request was a ploy to steal our tech from the start.
"What amazing friends. We do the job, and they backstab like this."
"Sorry, Doctor. Should've checked more thoroughly."
"Nah, can't predict premeditated bullshit like that."
Watching all these cosmic backstabs, I couldn't help but think the universe was full of them.
But that was short-lived. We'd warned them already.
And shown what happens to prior backstabbers.
No mercy for the "I can pull it off!" idiots.
About a week after that mess.
"As of today, this base is ours."
"W-what the hell is this?!"
"Breach of contract! Taking our base?!"
"You breached first. And why's it yours anyway?"
"Give it back!"
"Ah, feels so damn good!"
Hit the backstabbers with an even bigger fuck-you.
Clean wrap-up.
