It's a Trap! (2)
Is this that whole 'rigged against you' thing people talk about?
Irritated by the frustration staring me in the face, I first told Jessica to keep working on Ignis's support gear. Then I leaned back in the command seat, pulled up the gallery window, and decided to see how the other players were faring.
Honestly, maybe… maybe it was only the Monster faction getting screwed like this. For all I knew, the other factions were racking up Trust like candy.
Of course, if the devs had actually done the update properly, I wouldn't even need to be this suspicious. But given their track record of hauling out all four legendary swords — or cursed swords, depending on your perspective — any notion of reliability had long since been thrown to the dogs.
So, partly to figure out what the hell was going on, I opened the gallery with a flutter of anticipation in my chest. And naturally, right next to it, I also pulled up our dear old friend: the chat window.
But the moment I opened both…
Just like me, the chat was full of people having meltdowns over Trust not going up. And the gallery? The gallery had turned into a thermal power plant — dozens of reactors running full tilt off pure rage over Faction Trust gains.
There were even a ton of veterans — the kind who usually write tip posts — mixed in among the chaos. For a second I wondered if this really was a bug.
What's that, though.
Right there, sitting pretty under a "MUST READ" title, some user — fixed nickname or veteran, hard to say — had written a new post claiming to explain the cause. Curiosity got the better of me, so I clicked in to see what it said.
And once I read it, I realized of course I wouldn't have known about this.
Ahh, so that's how it is.
What a completely useless system, I thought, nodding along even as the irritation settled in.
And once that hidden system came to light, player reactions split pretty hard. Getting into the details would be complicated, but…
If I had to sum it up: half welcome, half opposed…? That felt about right.
Of course, that was a separate matter entirely.
