New Event Preview (1)
Fortunately, I was currently stroking the white hair of Smeragi, who kept purring away beside me, and had already recovered my peace of mind — so it didn't really matter either way.
More importantly, this particular issue wasn't something the devs had cooked up with one of their dirty stealth patches…

To be exact, that change went live right around when I got isekai'd into this place — roughly three years ago?
No, wait, more like two years and ten months ago.
The playerbase screamed so hard about it that they supposedly changed things so you could at least pull gold through your clan.
As the post I'd found in the gallery a little while ago — while browsing to recover my mental state and also to vent by roasting those bastards — made clear…
It was another patch that had gone live during the stretch when I'd quit the game and stopped playing.
Think about it.
Early on, the best ships you had were light or heavy cruisers, ship points sat around 200–300, and most players' clans couldn't even field a hundred ships.
What kind of power was a clan like that supposed to have?
The kind of place that actually generates gold is a massive space city or a fortified star system — something on that scale.
You really think the clans back then could take one of those?
No matter how much of a veteran you are, an absolute gap in raw military power is just something you can't do anything about.
Agree? Yeah, agree.
As one Oil from the Justice Clan put it, back then even if someone had told the players about it, they wouldn't have had the capability or the methods to respond. So everyone had, knowingly or not, simply kept quiet about it. I could only nod along.
I'd taken a nosedive in the stock market and somehow walked away with a life lesson out of nowhere… but the whole reason I'd been playing the market in the first place was to get a new ship.
Now that I'd decided to keep trading for my own small-but-certain happiness, I needed some other avenue to acquire a new vessel in its place.
The one little problem was the question of, so where exactly do I get one?
"Seriously, where are we supposed to find a new ship?"
"You took the words right out of my mouth, Commander."
For the record, I'd more or less given up on pulling a new ship from the gacha at this point. Not that I was refusing to pull — I simply didn't even have the currency for a ten-pull right now.
> Base Level 7 upgrade in progress…
> Time remaining until construction complete: 15 days 3 hours 43 minutes 13 seconds
Meanwhile, the base was still deep in the middle of its upgrade.
I'd been flying around looking for any high-grade wrecks that might be drifting nearby, but I wasn't the only one with that idea.
"Commander, we made contact with another commander's fleet just now."
"Huh?"
"Naturally, since our side only showed up with five patrol ships, they immediately claimed legitimate dominion over the sector and tried to drive us off. However…"
"I see. So what did you do?"
"We called in the Kraken, and they handed over the sector instead."
"Ahh."
An adult crashing a kids' fight, basically.
In the name of scavenging wrecks or hunting relics of the fallen ancient empire, we kept rubbing up against neighboring players like this. Even scrap-picking was turning out to be a pain, and I couldn't exactly call the situation ideal.
As for spinning up a plunder economy… well, the recent large-scale Central Zone invasion had made one thing clear. Most of the players still left in this hellhole were either solo operators or small clans who'd survived this long by keeping their heads down — not the type you could freely pick on. The weak ones either ran ship pools roughly on par with mine, or had ship pools that were similar and superhuman rosters so trash there wasn't even a flea's liver worth of value to squeeze out of them.
So I kept thinking and thinking, putting my IQ of 150 together with Jessica's IQ of 150 for a combined perfect score of 300, grinding away at the problem with sheer effort… only to realize, no matter how hard I thought, that there was absolutely nothing we could do about it right now.
Thankfully, though, the problem resolved itself before long.
The solution was none other than…
"Ohh… at long last!"
"A new event, Commander?"
"That's right!"
Just look at those sweet, sweet rewards. This wasn't about getting screwed over by some other player — clear your own personal instance dungeon and they'd hand out a free ship and superhuman, even if it was random!
Of course, the fine print wasn't written out, and if they slapped a grade restriction on it the way they had with the returning-player rewards last time, it would feel pretty stingy… but for someone like me who desperately needed even a single extra ship, that alone was more than enough to be grateful for.
And the arrival of an event like this wasn't something only luck-dependent scrub players like me were celebrating…
I'd been busy for a while, sure, but that had all been "conflict" stirred up by those clownish players — not an actual game event. The Central Zone had taken a massive invasion hit, and while things had quieted down for now, the Pirate Union–Earth Federation border was still too rough for Marianne to come through. Everywhere else, though, had gone pretty dead quiet.
