The Final Week (3)
The gallery, which until moments ago had been ablaze over the point-ranking controversy, caught fire all over again the instant a brand-new piece of bait streaked across the sky like a comet.
Now the condition was simply that the bait be new — and with that single qualifier attached, the whole board burned even more spectacularly than before.
Most of it, of course, was just people piling on with their own side stories about whether the rumor was true or not.
But that only lasted so long.
Some user who apparently had time and resources to burn had finally cracked the plunder system itself.
I was more than a little interested in that particular topic, so I quietly clicked the thread and started reading.

It's simple. When you win a PvP fight, the other user has reward scores, right?
You take one-third of their total reward score. Winner gets it.
To put it simply: when two users fight and one of them wins, no questions asked — one-third of the loser's reward score gets paid out in a lump sum to the victor.
Watching that particular piece of bait go up in flames, I drifted into thought for a moment.
Yeah, that feature definitely wasn't there when I was playing.
Not that "drifting into thought" meant much. Common sense said that in the three years since I'd quit, the game had gone through upgrade after upgrade of its own. So even if some weird new feature I didn't know about had shown up, I figured I might as well just roll with it at this point.
Of course, my personal take on the matter was one thing…
Are you fucking kidding me. A change this big and they just slap it in with a stealth patch?
Why are these assholes always this brain-dead?
I genuinely do not understand this shit, for real;;
Most of the player base was radiating pure irritation at this bizarre stealth patch.
And yet — as always, wherever you go — there were people who took the ancient sage's(?) advice of "if you can't avoid it, enjoy it," and those people had a way of popping up no matter the time or place.

There's a saying, right? If you can't avoid it, enjoy it.
So instead of dodging, just go quietly strip anyone who rubs you the wrong way and cash in those sweet reward scores. How about it?
There was just one problem.
The way they took "if you can't avoid it, enjoy it" was… extremely antisocial.
And everything I'd seen so far was only from an hour or two ago.
I flipped the pages forward and looked at the gallery now that the real hunting hour had arrived.
Sure enough — no surprises there.
The gallery was a dual spectacle: the frenzy of human hunters who'd gone completely insane for points, and the suffering posts of users who'd been hit by sudden plunder raids without any real preparation, all climbing the board side by side in perfect harmony.
Of course, not every user who'd switched careers to full-time plunderer was succeeding every time. Living proof kept climbing the board.

So everyone was out plundering, right? I just went and hit some random user base nearby.
Turns out the guy was in a giant clan. Their support fleets showed up instantly and beat the absolute shit out of me.
They left me the gacha ships, but every other ship got stripped and my reward scores got jacked.
No resources either.
Fuck. How am I supposed to live now.
God dammit, if he hadn't been in a clan I could've wrecked him…
For reference, I'm my clan's logistics officer, so I've got a lot of transport fleets on contract from the clan.
And this guy sees those transport fleets and charges in spouting this crap:
Your pathetic little fleet doesn't stand a chance, you moron.
Quit talking nonsense and go get some sleep.
Just because everyone else was doing it.
