The First Ten-Pull Disaster
We're fucked.
Base just got overrun by Space Kaiju, and the only S-grade muscle marine I was counting on is currently getting overrun by Space Kaiju too.
Ugh, fucking hell.
I shook my head hard, scrubbing the grotesque image I'd just scrolled past in the community out of my mind — that absolute nightmare fuel of a post — and forced myself back on track.
"Anyway, the important thing is that we need a new Super."
"Understood. Got it, sir!"
I passed the word to Jessica and decided we'd get ready to welcome our new tomodachi.
> Multi-dimensional Fixed Causality Generator (500) — SELECTED
> Construct? Y/N
Hell yes, you absolute beauty.
The moment the prompt floated up in front of my eyes, I slammed Y and dumped the resources straight into the gacha.
And the next day—
Maybe because the thing had always been there to begin with. This time the alert didn't say "Construction Complete" — it said "Unlocked."
But what mattered right now was that the moment had finally come: my first free ten-pull on the gacha.
"Hmm."
I vacuumed up the bacon and fried eggs I'd been eating for an early lunch, then stood up from my seat and headed straight for the gacha system at the heart of the base.
Of course, before I actually went to pull—
Bring me wine and women!
From this moment on, it is the hour of heroes and legends who pull SSS-grades!
—I checked the post I'd put up ahead of time, fully intending to bask in the overflowing praise and support of our community… or rather, the gallery.
… … … … … …
Faced with that truly morale-boosting comment section, I shook my head in weary disbelief and set off toward the gacha chamber.
And once I arrived—
"Everything ready, Jessica?"
"Yes, sir! Ready whenever you are!"
"Ignis?"
"Ready to set off the fireworks at any moment, Commander."
I inspected the welcome setup Jessica and Ignis had prepared with painstaking care — a full-hearted reception for whoever showed up — then steeled myself to spin the gacha and greet our newest arrival.
> First Random Draw — 10-Pull Ticket
> Use this ticket? Y/N
"LEEEET'S GOOOOO!"
The instant I hit the button, the Multi-dimensional Fixed Causality Generator's reels began to spin — and this time, unlike the single pull before, we were slamming through a full ten at once. Far more intense light flared and crackled, and the whole thing radiated a feeling that something extraordinary was about to happen.
The problem was that, right at that moment, Ignis suddenly seemed to remember something and turned to me with a question.
"Commander? I have one thing I'm curious about…"
"What is it, Ignis?"
"If the subject produced through causality fixation turns out to be a ship… what do we do then?"
"…!"
Come to think of it — this wasn't a return-bonus exclusive pull. From now on, ships and characters came out completely at random.
If a ship dropped, the welcome banner Jessica had so carefully cut and glued together out of colored paper would be useless. The modest little spread we'd prepared for the reception would all be for nothing.
And Jessica, standing right beside us and listening in, clearly had the same thought.
—Tremble.
The bright, sunny smile that had been on her face a second ago froze solid.
But the moment the cascade of light pouring from the gacha machine finally faded, everyone tried to put on radiant smiles again as if nothing had happened, ready to fire off their welcome—
"…?"
"Welco— wait. Huh?"
"Commander… no one came out."
The light pollution cleared. And what revealed itself inside was this:
• Meager Resource Box
• Meager Equipment Box
• Meager Equipment Box
• Unusual Equipment Box
• Corvette Modification Gear
• Meager Resource Box
• Ordinary Resource Box
• Ordinary Resource Box
• Ordinary Equipment Box
Contrary to every hope I'd been holding, the ten-pull's results… dumped a whole pile of equipment and resource boxes right in my face.
SSS-grade, my ass.
Not even SS. Not even S. Not so much as a bare-minimum A-grade Super — just a heap of resources and gear I didn't particularly need right now.
"Haaaaaah…"
A deep, soul-weary sigh rolled up from somewhere in my gut. If I stood there any longer, the irritation was going to boil over whether I wanted it to or not — so I immediately opened the gallery, slapped up a new post, and hit submit.
Did a ten-pull. Not a single character dropped. Too pissed to take questions.
Watching the gallery laugh in my face left a fresh bruise on my heart. I trudged back to my room with heavy steps, figuring I'd take a short break.
Well — a gacha bombing this hard was something that could happen anytime. Common as dirt, really. A little rest, I told myself, and I'd grab my wobbling mental state by the collar and pull myself together.
But there was one thing I hadn't realized yet.
I had pulled a ten-pull… and the gacha machine had only spat out nine results.
