Prologue
It was a stranger's bed. The moment I pushed myself upright, a headache crashed over me, so fierce it felt as though my skull might split.
"Ugh... what in the world—?!"
I clapped a hand over my mouth in shock. What had spilled from my lips was not the dull, heavy voice of a man I had always possessed. It was a woman's clear, lovely voice, pure enough that it seemed to sweeten the very air of the room.
The hand sealing my mouth was long and slender. The instant I dropped my gaze, something heavy and wholly alien blocked my view—a chest of a size that did not belong to me.
"What... is this."
Unable to believe it, I traced my face with trembling fingers. Long hair spilled down the line of my neck; the skin was soft, the jaw fine and narrow. My heart began to hammer like mad.
"Don't tell me..."
There's no way. This has to be a mistake. It has to be. No—it has to be, because it must.
Staggering, I made my way toward the full-length mirror standing in one corner of the room. The instant I saw the figure reflected there, I froze where I stood.
The one in the glass was not the me I knew. Hair silver-white as snow, eyes red as rubies. Features precise as a sculpture, a face beautiful enough to steal anyone's gaze, and the vestments of a Saintess besides—a woman from whom holiness seemed to radiate at a single glance was looking back at me.
"This... is me?"
This wasn't me. That was not the person I had known.
In the moment my mind went pure white, a translucent blue window rose before my eyes.
