The Seeds of Suspicion
Late at night, Kim Eunju lay alone in the darkened bedroom. Her heart was heavy, filled to the brim with suspicion regarding her husband, Lee Hyunwoo. When he had returned from work today, his clothes had carried the scent of an unfamiliar perfume. She sat up in bed and approached the closet. She pulled out his clothes and pressed them to her nose, but now, there was no scent at all.
'Is he having an affair...'
The seed of doubt grew, tightening its grip on her heart. The Han Sujin couple always seemed so happy; why were they the only ones suffering through such difficulties? Kim Eunju returned to bed and lay down. Her mind was a tangled mess of thoughts, yet she could find no answers. She let out a deep sigh and closed her weary eyes.
'What on earth am I supposed to do...'
Plunged into despair and confusion, Kim Eunju could not sleep, tossing and turning throughout the night. A complex mix of suspicion, anxiety, and love for her husband tormented her. Yet, she could not confide in anyone. Her inner self, torn between the desire to protect her family and the sting of betrayal, was sinking deeper into a quagmire.
Kim Eunju invited Han Sujin to her home for the first time. After putting her child to sleep in the bedroom, the two sat in the living room, sipping tea and chatting. Although they hadn't known each other long, there was a sense of comfort between them, like old friends.
"Sujin, have you been doing well lately?" Kim Eunju asked warmly as she served the tea. Han Sujin replied with a gentle smile.
"Yes, I’ve been well. How about you, Eunju? You haven't looked like yourself lately, and I’ve been worried."
In truth, Kim Eunju’s heart was heavy with suspicion regarding her husband, Lee Hyunwoo, but she forced a bright expression in front of Han Sujin.
"Oh, it’s nothing. Just a lot of work lately," she replied, feigning nonchalance. She quickly changed the subject to ask about Han Sujin’s marriage.
"You and your husband look so happy together. I’m envious."
However, a shadow flickered across Han Sujin’s expression that Kim Eunju failed to notice. Her own relationship with Lee Han was a secret that could never be revealed to Kim Eunju. Instead, Han Sujin offered words of comfort.
"Thank you. You and your husband look wonderful, too. I’m especially envious of your child."
Kim Eunju felt grateful and took Han Sujin’s hand. Even though they couldn't share all their troubles, the mere fact that she had a reliable friend by her side was a comfort.
The afternoon sunlight poured into the living room, and the two women enjoyed their tea, savoring their rare time together. Kim Eunju decided she should meet with Han Sujin more often. She felt that perhaps Han Sujin might be the key to healing her own wounds.
They began to build a friendship, each keeping their own secrets. Even after Han Sujin left, Kim Eunju’s heart felt somewhat lighter. Watching the sunset outside the window, she regained a sliver of hope. She felt as though she had found the strength to navigate these difficult times.
But neither of them knew. The jealousy and deep wounds lurking behind their friendship. The two women sat in the living room as the shadows slowly deepened, neither aware of the tears hidden behind the other's laughter.
On a sunny spring day, Kim Eunju pushed her stroller toward the park within the apartment complex. The leaves danced in the gentle breeze, and sunlight dappled the grass. Kim Eunju’s baby slept peacefully in the stroller. Seeing that sight brought a smile to her face, but it was quickly replaced by a bitter pang.
When she reached the park bench, she found Han Sujin already sitting and waiting. Upon seeing Kim Eunju and the baby, Han Sujin approached with a bright smile.
"Eunju, your baby is so cute. I want to have a child soon, too," Han Sujin said, her eyes filled with envy.
Hearing those words, Kim Eunju felt a surge of gratitude mixed with jealousy toward Han Sujin. Comparing her own situation to Han Sujin’s seemingly happy marriage made her feel pathetic.
"Thank you, Sujin. But, have you had any news yet?" Kim Eunju asked, waiting for the answer.
Han Sujin hesitated for a moment, then replied in a bright voice.
"Not yet. We’re trying, but it’s not as easy as I thought it would be."
Hearing that, a cold chill settled in Kim Eunju’s chest. When she and Lee Hyunwoo had tried to conceive, they had given their all to each other. But since the birth of their child, her relationship with her husband had grown strangely distant.
Kim Eunju continued to talk with Han Sujin while soothing her fussy baby, but bitterness lingered in her heart. Comparing her husband to Han Sujin’s, her resentment toward Lee Hyunwoo deepened. *Why don't we look as happy as they do?*
On the way home after the walk, Kim Eunju’s steps were heavy as she pushed the stroller. Far from being a comfort, the meeting with Han Sujin had only made her own situation feel more miserable.
'Han Sujin has a happy marriage, so what am I doing?'
Along with her suspicion of her husband, jealousy toward Han Sujin began to take root in Kim Eunju’s heart. That jealousy, wearing the mask of friendship, began to gnaw at her from the inside.
As she pushed the stroller into the house, Kim Eunju let out a deep sigh. After putting the baby to sleep, she sat in the living room and looked out the window. The sunlight was still shining brightly, but Kim Eunju’s heart was growing darker. The jealousy hidden behind her friendship with Han Sujin was casting a cold shadow.
The door to the apartment management office opened, and Park Mina stepped inside cautiously. Lee Han, who had been waiting for her, sat on the sofa with a meaningful smile.
"Mina, how was your meeting with Lee Hyunwoo today?"
Park Mina hesitated at Lee Han’s question. She tilted her head slightly and answered in a slow voice.
"Well, he’s always just kind, nothing special. If anything, it feels like there’s a line drawn between us."
A subtle smile played on Lee Han’s lips at those words. He stepped closer to Park Mina and whispered in a low voice.
"That’s actually better."
A calculating light shimmered in Lee Han’s eyes. If Kim Eunju’s suspicions ended in finality, the despair she would feel in the end would be all the greater.
Park Mina looked puzzled by Lee Han’s words, but without realizing his true intentions, she nodded. She sat down beside him and leaned into his embrace.
"Mina, you’re doing well."
Park Mina looked at Lee Han with eyes full of anticipation.
"Yes... thank you."
Lee Han wore a satisfied smile. He slowly pulled Park Mina into his arms and whispered.
"Then, I should give you a reward, shouldn't I?"
Lee Han kissed her gently, and Park Mina wrapped her arms around his neck. Their lips met hotly, and their breathing grew ragged. Lee Han’s hands explored Park Mina’s body greedily, and she hugged his back, surrendering her entire body to him.
Articles of clothing were shed one by one. The sound of skin meeting skin and their moans echoed through the management office. Lee Han embraced her passionately, and Park Mina accepted him, kissing his neck. Their sweat-slicked bodies remained pressed together as they raced toward the climax.
It seemed like they were sharing love, but what passed between them was nothing but desire. To Park Mina, Lee Han was the absolute ruler who dominated her, and to Lee Han, Park Mina was a tool to achieve his plans. There was no sincere heart. They were merely indulging in pleasure, exploring each other's bodies.
After the climax, they looked at each other with languid eyes. A smile of victory hung on Lee Han’s lips, while a sense of inexplicable emptiness flickered in Park Mina’s pupils.

Deep in the night, Kim Eunju sat alone in the bedroom, staring at the darkness outside the window. In the silent stillness, her heart was filled with confusion and suspicion. Once again, Lee Hyunwoo’s clothes had carried the scent of that unfamiliar perfume.
"What am I doing wrong..."
Her own voice echoed in the room. Her suspicion was turning into certainty, yet she could not confide this fact to anyone.
Kim Eunju rose from the bed and approached the window. Leaning her forehead against the cold glass, she tried to soothe her complicated feelings. But the knot in her heart would not easily unravel.
'I can't tell Sujin. She and her husband look so happy...'
Her close friend Han Sujin and her husband looked so incredibly happy. Compared to her own situation, she felt only more pathetic and miserable. To admit that she suspected her husband of infidelity in front of them was a confession she could not bring herself to make.
In the end, Kim Eunju sighed and stared into the deep darkness.
"I have no choice but to keep it to myself..."
Her mutterings vanished into the silence. Like the moon shining alone in the night sky, Kim Eunju had to face this problem alone. Love for her husband, the sting of betrayal, and even jealousy toward her friend. With these contradictory emotions tangled together, her heart was sinking deeper into a quagmire.
In the living room of Han Sujin’s home, the two sat facing each other, drinking coffee. Han Sujin noticed the worry etched on Kim Eunju’s face. Outwardly, she wore an expression of concern for her friend, but her inner thoughts were different.
"Eunju, are you really okay lately? If there’s anything I can do to help, please tell me."
Han Sujin’s words sounded like warm comfort on the surface, but hidden underneath was the intention to stimulate Kim Eunju’s jealousy. Following Lee Han’s instructions, she was skillfully manipulating Kim Eunju’s psychology.
Kim Eunju, failing to notice Han Sujin’s true intentions, felt grateful for her friend’s concern. She hesitated for a moment before picking up her coffee cup. She forced a smile and replied.
"I’m really okay, Sujin. I’ve just been a bit busy lately."
"Still, if things get hard, please tell me. We’re friends, after all. You can lean on me."
Kim Eunju felt genuinely thankful for Han Sujin’s words. She was happy that her friend was worried about her. But at the same time, she hesitated to confide her suspicions about her husband’s affair.
Then, suddenly, she remembered herself envying and feeling jealous of Han Sujin’s married life. Kim Eunju was overcome with self-loathing.
'I’m such a bad person. I can't even be genuinely happy for my friend's happiness, and instead, I feel jealous...'
Kim Eunju felt despair at her own ugly behavior. With her head bowed, she wrestled with the whirlpool inside her. Han Sujin watched Kim Eunju, hiding a pitying smile.
After finishing her coffee, Kim Eunju stood up. She said her goodbyes to Han Sujin, but the heavy burden in the corner of her heart remained. As she pushed the stroller home, Kim Eunju sighed.
'Why is my situation so miserable...'
Along with her self-reproach, Kim Eunju began to view her situation with pessimism. She felt as though she were drifting further and further away from the threshold of happiness. Without realizing the malice hidden behind Han Sujin’s mask, Kim Eunju was sinking deeper into the quagmire.
Late afternoon, in the park within the apartment complex at dusk. Kim Eunju was walking along a quiet path, pushing her stroller. The worries that had weighed heavily on her heart all day made her steps sluggish.
"What if I’m the one doing something wrong..."
The sigh that escaped Kim Eunju’s lips scattered into the air. Just then, someone approached her.
"Hello, Eunju."
Kim Eunju looked up at the familiar voice. It was Lee Han, the apartment manager.
"Oh, hello, Lee Han. Are you on patrol?"
Kim Eunju asked back pleasantly. Lee Han gave a good-natured smile and replied.
"Yes, that’s right. I’m checking the safety of the complex for the summer."
Then, he scrutinized Kim Eunju’s face carefully.
"But you look very tired, Eunju. Is something bothering you?"
For a moment, hesitation flickered in Kim Eunju’s heart. But she soon replied with a falter.
"Just... I’ve had a lot of work lately."
A look of concern clouded Lee Han’s face. He comforted her in a sincere voice.
"Is that so? Please tell me if anything is wrong. If there’s anything I can do to help, I want to help. Building trust among the people here is part of my job, after all."
At those words, a slight smile spread across Kim Eunju’s face.
"Thank you, Lee Han. I’m really okay."
Kim Eunju tried to end the conversation. But just then, a familiar scent brushed against her nose. The scent of perfume coming from Lee Han. It was strangely similar to the scent she had smelled on Lee Hyunwoo’s clothes not long ago.
'This perfume on Lee Han... it’s the same as the one on Lee Hyunwoo’s clothes. Should I ask him...'
Suspicion raised its head, but Kim Eunju soon shook the thought away. It was just a coincidence; what could Lee Han possibly have to do with Lee Hyunwoo?
The two exchanged brief greetings and parted ways. Kim Eunju continued her walk. The afternoon park was quiet, and the child slept comfortably in the stroller. But darkness was settling into Kim Eunju’s heart. Her meeting with Lee Han had made that darkness even deeper. An inexplicable anxiety began to slowly consume her.
