The Magical Girl and the Werewolf
It had been a long time since I last looked at a university campus. Ever since I got blackout drunk during freshman orientation and puked all over the senior who was helping me, I’d eaten lunch alone for an entire year. Because of that, I had no good memories of university campuses. But the me right now wasn’t the college student Kim Jin-hyung who got wasted and caused a scene. I was the werewolf Rin. And this wasn’t even the school I used to attend.
Seen through this lens, the university campus looked truly beautiful. Pink cherry blossom petals, completely out of season, fluttered down gracefully on the breeze—a stark reminder of the climate crisis. And between those petals were naked college students. The mismatched sense of season was instantly drowned out by a sea of bare skin.
There was nowhere safe to look, but turning your eyes away in a situation like this only invited misunderstanding. So I boldly scanned the bodies of the crowd, searching for Go Yu-jin. It wasn’t difficult. Even in a game world, there weren’t many people who had achieved a G-cup without the help of items.
Let me be clear again: I was the only one seeing everyone naked. They were all wearing clothes. Anything treated as clothing was visible to me as well. Wallets and phones in pockets looked like they were floating in mid-air, and so did the pads supporting a woman’s breasts. In an era where a huge number of women lied about their sizes, I spotted a pair of enormous breasts deliberately squeezed tight in an attempt to look smaller. I immediately lifted my gaze to confirm their owner.
Long black hair grown without any styling. Oversized black horn-rimmed glasses that took up half her face. A plain, makeup-free complexion. Aside from her chest, everything about her screamed ordinary. That face told me exactly who she was.
Go Yu-jin.
The true identity of the magical girl Double Melon was an ordinary female college student. A plain one at that, with nothing special except her chest. But that was exactly what mattered. No matter how well she hid her face behind long hair and huge glasses, she couldn’t hide her naturally gifted breasts. No matter how tightly she bound them, there was a limit. And that limit had attracted a few bees.
I saw two men approaching her. One had the skinny build of an active idol, his hair dyed a pale lemon color. The other had deeply tanned skin. To my naked eyes, their intentions were obvious. The moment they looked at her chest, I watched the tanned man’s tiny stinger rise in real time.
According to the boss, she had become quite irritable lately, but that was only toward people who knew her true identity. In other words, mostly me.
Go Yu-jin, surrounded by the two men, looked anxious like any other ordinary girl, glancing around as if she didn’t know what to do. Then our eyes met. Even through her glasses lenses, I could see her eyes widening.
Time to step in.
Whoever she slept with and however many partners she had was none of my business. But if that caused her to take her stress out on me or interfered with Double Melon’s activities, that would be a problem.
I loosened my shoulders slightly and walked toward Go Yu-jin and the two men.
I spoke to the two men who were busy hitting on her.
Pretending to be the boyfriend of a woman in trouble to rescue her. Even though I didn’t like the guys, it was a role I had always thought would be nice to try at least once. Violence was off the table, so I’d pick a light fight, then twist their wrists just enough to subdue them—
…But the men’s reactions were completely different from what I had imagined. They looked slightly surprised and full of curiosity, glancing back and forth between me and Go Yu-jin. Meanwhile, Go Yu-jin’s face had turned bright red. She was even trembling.
After Go Yu-jin’s frightened voice rang out, the two men’s expressions turned ugly.
Oh. Shit.
The men’s voices grew louder. Eyes from all around started turning our way.
As I took a step back, the two men advanced on me. The situation had reversed in an instant.
…Well, maybe not reversed. Either way, things had gone completely differently from what I had imagined. If they caught me now, it wouldn’t end well.
The moment I shouted that, I spun around and ran.
Who the hell stops just because someone tells them to? I dove between the crowd, and the two men couldn’t follow me.
After escaping the campus, I hid in an alley a short distance from the school.
That damn woman. If she had just played along, I wouldn’t have ended up like this.
Vrrrrrrrr—!
Right on cue, my phone vibrated. It was Go Yu-jin. I checked my surroundings, answered the call, and lowered the volume.
Are you insane?
What? You fucking lunatic. Why the hell did you come to school? And what the fuck was that crazy shit you said earlier?!
She sounded furious.
Hunting? Ha! Then why didn’t you just say that? What the hell? My boyfriend? Are you trying to ruin my school life?
Intention my ass—you—ugh.
I could faintly hear other people’s voices on the other end of the line.
No, no. It’s nothing. Yes. I was just on the phone with the boss of my part-time job. Yes, really. Yes, goodbye.
She seemed to be talking to someone. Her voice was completely different from when she spoke to me.
…So what do you want? Why did you come all the way to school?
Then send a text message.
A few seconds passed before her voice returned.
…What is it?
I have plans today.
Do I have to report every single thing to you?
Go Yu-jin paused for a moment before answering.
I’ll be near City Hall by six. Wait for me there.
The call ended the moment I answered. City Hall, huh. That was quite a distance from here. She probably wanted to talk somewhere far from the school. Honestly, I felt the same way.
Let’s see. It was currently one in the afternoon. With people around, I should probably leave around two.
One of the other downsides of the nude patch was that since you couldn’t see the clothes people were wearing, you had no idea what they had on. Go Yu-jin had definitely changed. Her socks and shoes were different, and the huge glasses had been replaced by light sunglasses. She had tied her long hair back, and most noticeably, the tight binding around her chest was gone. Her outfit had clearly changed, but since I couldn’t see it, I had no way of knowing what it was.
If I could see her clothes, I could compliment her outfit to lighten the mood. But I couldn’t, so it felt a little frustrating. Not like I could compliment her nipple color or grooming habits either.
So I had no choice but to take Go Yu-jin’s full wrath without being able to soften it even a little.
Just seniors? It was surprising that she actually knew the two men, but one thing was certain. Both of them had gotten hard while looking at her. Was it normal to get an erection while talking to a junior who was nothing to you? Sure, this was a game world, but Under the Blue Moon wasn’t that kind of game, and I hadn’t installed any mods like that. The nude patch was just something I added because playing through the game four times needed a little spice. In other words, that erection wasn’t caused by the mod—it was the result of their own desires.
Go Yu-jin picked up her teacup and hurled its contents at me. Dodging would have been easy, but doing so here would only make her angrier. I closed my eyes at the perfect moment, turned my head slightly, and took the liquid straight to the face. If this hadn’t been a private room café, the staff would have already rushed over worrying about the table.
I slowly pulled out a tissue and wiped the liquid off my face and clothes. Of all things, she had to throw a café latte.
To me she just looked like a gloomy big-breasted college girl. On the inside, she was a twenty-two-year-old magical girl who transformed to beat up undocumented immigrants who needed money—an advertising pillar for our company.
She didn’t deny it?
I see. Because she was such a cunning and greedy woman, she could hide her true nature and act like that. She was even willing to throw me under the bus to maintain that image.
They probably wouldn’t let her. By then it would be hard to hide the wrinkles with makeup. Honestly, even at twenty-two I thought the title “magical girl” didn’t really suit her.
So that was the point. Her dream was ‘I want to be a good wife.’ For all the grand talk, it was surprisingly modest. At the same time, it felt strangely pure.
She brought up the boss as if she had been expecting it.
I shrugged.
Go Yu-jin pointed her index finger at my head as she spoke. I barely held back the urge to throw the cup’s contents at her the same way she had done to me and smiled.
Did I touch a reverse scale? Go Yu-jin’s face twisted in a way I had never seen before.
Go Yu-jin slammed the table so hard it sounded like a gunshot and stood up.
Go Yu-jin immediately left the room.
I followed after her. Since I overwhelmed her in strength, I could have dragged her back if I wanted. But this was a café. If I did that, the police would be called immediately.
When I grabbed her wrist, she violently shook me off.
She flipped me the middle finger, then headed straight for the café entrance. Watching her, I couldn’t hold back anymore.
The boss was forcing his own ideas without knowing the situation here, and this woman was about to throw a tantrum and cause trouble just because her feelings got hurt. What the hell was I supposed to do stuck in the middle?
After spitting out the curses, I noticed the café part-timers looking at me with anxious faces.
After smiling at the part-timers, I leaned against the window and looked outside. She must have gone down incredibly fast—Go Yu-jin was already walking out of the building. As she strode down the street, I saw men approaching her. Was this real hunting this time? I wasn’t going to help anymore. She could handle it herself. She wasn’t a child. Since she was disguised, she would…
“Huh?”
Several men swarmed her in an instant. I watched them grab her and shove her into a black van parked nearby. And above all, those men… had the blood crest of the vampire clan engraved on their backs.
This was real. This was a real ‘hunting.’
I immediately threw myself toward the glass window.
Crash!
Leaving the café part-timers’ screams behind, I plummeted toward the ground below.
