Plundering the Police Station
Before dawn the next day after looting the police station, I headed back to Myeongseo-dong. I'd already stripped the hospital bare too. My original plan was to secure the residential zones of Jangcheon-dong and Cheonnam-dong below it first before pushing into the old downtown of Myeongseo-dong... but yesterday's mess changed my mind.
'If only the whole world was full of kids like that.'
Charging into someone else's turf and opening fire without so much as an introduction... Their survivor instincts were spot-on, which I appreciated, but that sealed their fate. Had to clean them up fast.
'Wanted to fatten them up a bit more before the feast...'
Brazen enough to blast away openly? Zombies didn't scare them. No clue how many rounds were stashed at the police station, but spraying like that from range meant they had plenty—no need to conserve. Guts and gear to back it up. Left alone, they'd mop up Myeongseo-dong quick. Then? Straight for my farming grounds in Jangcheon-dong and Cheonnam-dong, even overrunning my base in Seongjeong-dong.
Sure, being human, I'd be lying if I claimed I never pictured us teaming up—grinding zombies, slicing humans, building some twisted earthly paradise together...
'How dare they spit on my goodwill?'
Yesterday's gunfire nuked that fantasy. Now just one path left.
One hand cradling Dok Sa-yeon's oversized milk jugs as emergency rations, the other kneading Jeong Da-jeong's teary sacs, when a voice blared out of nowhere.
[Aah, testing. Citizens, this is the police. We've come to rescue you.]
What fresh bullshit? I cracked the curtains for a peek—jackpot, quite the show.
"Heh, those fuckers. More I watch, more they turn me on?"
The crew from yesterday, all decked in stolen police blues, megaphoning their crap everywhere.
[Safe havens and hot meals ready. Citizens, come on out—no more hiding.]
[Ahem. If you can't move, signal from a window—we'll come get you.]
[Shelter at nearby Myeongseo Police Station. Medics, beds standing by—fear not...]
[Head to shelter, soldiers'll evac you beyond city limits...]
Ridiculous drivel—who buys that? But Jeong Da-jeong's eyes next to me were quivering.
"Hey."
"Y-Yes, Master?"
"You ain't swallowing that horseshit, right?"
"O-Of course not, Master... But they might be real cops..."
"The fuck. Ever seen a cop with thug ink?"
"....."
I shook my head at her silence—she couldn't flat-out deny it.
Even conceding her point, assuming they were cops once? Not anymore.
Checked Dok Sa-yeon too—good, she wasn't biting. Though her gaze was elsewhere.
“““GRRRRAAAAAHHH”””
Beep-.
Zombies swarming at the noise—one whistled sharp.
'Huh? They got whistles too?'
Riot-suited goons with suppression shields rushed in, smashing zombies flat.
Thwack, splat, splat-.
Batons to pipes, bats—zombie skulls pulverized in seconds.
"Yo! Flank! Alley! Alley!"
Thud-.
Thud-.
Splat, splat, splat...
Lag on a kill? Shields up, others thinned the herd steady.
Occasional glowing weapons or rippling auras, but meh.
'No standout jobs, huh.'
Give it time, maybe. Right now? Chaotic brawls from LV.1-2 scrubs. Dok Sa-yeon saw potential, though.
Glance-.
"....."
She played coy, but I caught every sneaky peek between me and them.
Zombie waves overwhelming? Guns came out.
"Hey! Show yourself!"
Bang. Baaang! Baaaang! Baaaang!
"Eek..."
Dok Sa-yeon clamped ears, transfixed on crumpling zombies—then a furtive side-eye my way.
Knew her train of thought. Let it chug.
"Distance and tail me."
Scene calming, I slipped from hiding, alley-ran near them.
Screech-.
Heads swiveling-.
Humans being humans—post-power check, survivors poked out one by one.
"R-Really safe outside?"
"Damn straight."
"C'mon, citizens—center up!"
"Hey! Zombie at my door..."
"On it—rescue incoming!"
I shadowed two peeling off toward a building.
Up to the second floor of the caller's spot.
Splat, splat-.
Thump, thump, thump.
"Safe now. Come on o..."
They spun to knock—I bolted stairs.
Click, creak-.
"Really safe..."
Rat-tat-tat-tat-.
"...!"
Door creak drowned it—they whipped heads late. One throat half-severed already.
Clang-.
"Sh-shit...!"
Whack. Whack. Whack. Whack...
Crack.
Other guy's jaw pulped till blackout.
"Hah...!"
Thud-.
Jam hand in closing door, ram blade into frozen survivor's chest.
Stabstabbstabbstabb-...
"Guh. Urk. Urk... Guh...!"
Murder, Evil Act...
Drag, thump.
No more pings—I descended, beckoned the girls from cover.
"Yo. Inventory all corpses—you, haul throat guy inside, wake him."
Ziiiing-.
Bodies vanishing at Jeong Da-jeong's fingertips.
'Blood? World's soaked in it.'
Slap, slap-.
"Hey! Hey?"
"School trip?"
Blade to downed guy's thigh—wake-up call.
Stab-
"Agh..."
Munch-.
"Mmph! Mrrgh...!"
"Answer. Only. My questions. Or other leg's zombie bait?"
Nodnodnod-.
"Total headcount? Fighters."
"Mmphrrf..ffty."
"Huh?"
"Jaw's busted—can't talk."
Dangle.
"Fuck, warn a guy! Why gag then!"
Stab-
"Mrrghh...!"
"Up-down game? Up if over 10?"
"Ugh."
"Speak up—nod!"
Stab-.
"Eekugh...!"
Nodnodnod.
"20? 30?"
Nodnod.
"40? 50?"
Nod...
"Roger. 45? Less? Then..."
Up-down dragged it out: 43 total at station. ~15 armed. Mostly LV.1-2, some LV.3s.
Wanted jobs, layout—begged, but punk passed out from pokes.
"Two in clip, pocket's twenty?"
Snagged pistol, ammo—chin-jut to Dok Sa-yeon.
"Off him."
Glance-.
She stared steady.
'Hmm. Time for slave brand.'
Prepped to spill "killing awakeners shares EXP" like with Da-jeong, but—
Sudden thrust—Dok Sa-yeon pierced his neck.
Stab-.
Twitch-.
"Gurgle..."
Watched him foam, then slashed deep.
Riiip-.
Gush, gush. Gush...
Spurt...
Convulsed, bled dry, arms limp.
"...Heh..."
Faint, unmistakable smile gazing at the corpse.
Different from Da-jeong's shatter—equally gorgeous.
Whispered like before.
"Fun, yeah?"
"..Fun...?"
"Not?"
"How could it..."
Zap-.
"be."
Smile faded.
'So close.'
No—there. Just denial. She'd crack soon. Little nudge... or cliff-dive.
"Eh, whatever."
Her baggage, her pace.
Priority: thin herds for storming ease.
No greed—yesterday's ~6-7 shots at me. Minus two? Five more snuffs.
Not total greenhorns—might sniff oddities, bail. Fine by me.
Gonna erase 'em all anyway.
"Who said steal my shit?"
That police station? Mine from jump.
