0. Trains in Romance Fantasy are Peaceful.
In romance fantasy stories, trains are peaceful. Right? Go to an inn, and what happens? Something always does. You get dragged into trouble, no question. Some pretty girl in a veil catches eyes, or the protagonist's glare rubs someone the wrong way.
Protagonist dives into a dungeon? Hidden boss incoming, guaranteed. Even safe gates get bumped up to A-rank every other day.
So what the hell is a train in romance fantasy? A golden goblin existing purely to get raided by armed thugs. The hero's spotlight stage for shielding the heroine. A garbage spot built for danger and nothing else.
“Kyaaak!”
“We are the Red Flag revolutionaries! Death to the nobles!”
Yeah. Just like that. Rebels and revolutionaries pulling terrorist stunts every damn day.
Chzzzt. Chzzzt.
The man barked his canned lines into the communicator, over and over.
“Ahem. Passengers, please remain calm. As of right now, the armed robbers have been subdued. Follow the crew's instructions at all times. Destination unchanged: Capital Levinas. Capital Levinas.”
“Subdued? Yeah, right—kill the engineer too...”
Bang.
“Aw, fuck. Blood splattered everywhere.”
And I became that train's engineer.
