Prologue
Decades ago, human civilization underwent a change more radical than any before it.
A structure called the Tower, defying all laws of physics, rose from the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Those chosen by the Tower were granted special abilities. Depending on the country, they were awarded unique statuses such as players, hunters, or awakeners, and they brought back otherworldly items from the Tower that no one could have imagined originating from Earth.
Including those otherworldly goods, production began of a material called mana stones, boasting energy efficiency and stability incomparable to conventional fossil fuels. These mana stones were potent enough to upend every existing energy industry. On top of that, players retrieved even more otherworldly items from the Tower.
It might seem like a profession fraught with danger, but the glamorous lifestyles showcased across all forms of media—and the immense incomes backed by national support—made it incredibly appealing. Thanks to that, countless people dreamed of becoming players.
I was one of them.
One day, I awakened. To summoning ability, no less—a utterly commonplace power.
But the targets I was supposed to summon seemed a little... off.
