In the beginning, I actually intended to write a story about an adventurer who buys a hoard of slaves and lives a life of debauchery, but somehow he turned into a soul collector and ended up saving the world...!
Since it was my first time writing a Labyrinth-themed story, it was a fresh and fun experience in many ways.
It was also my first time ever writing medieval fantasy, so I remember agonizing quite a bit over various details while building the world!! As a result, the work became more focused on the Labyrinth itself rather than the medieval genre.
Also, since the protagonists in my previous works were always psychopaths or completely insane villains, I think this is the first time I’ve portrayed a kind protagonist like Sion, who uses polite speech and maintains his manners. In many ways, this project felt like a new challenge for me.
I’ve always written apocalypse stories, so writing a Labyrinth story provided a new kind of enjoyment.
Of course, due to various real-life issues during the writing process, I had to condense or cut some episodes, but I feel I was still able to tell all the stories I wanted to tell.
Since I started the novel with the ending already decided—that the protagonist would sit on the Throne—the scenes where Sion suffers because of "time" were something I definitely wanted to include, and I think I managed to weave them in well.
