Chapter 184: My Territory 19
December 14th, Monday. Mondays are busy weekdays. Sure, sometimes weekends end up busier when I've kicked off a bunch of shit, but generally, I had more work on weekdays.
A little past lunchtime. I'd finally made it back to the artificial island mansion and was taking a short break.
"Master, as of today, Prosecutor Inaeun has been appointed as the head of the Special Investigations Department."
"Ah, right. Today's the day. Which prosecutor's office was it again?"
"Namdong District Prosecutor's Office."
"Damn. Everything's piling up in Namdong-gu. Coincidence?"
"Coincidence... I don't think so."
"I was planning to take out the Chief Prosecutor this time... but he's sharper than I thought?"
Early on, when he was going against my wishes pointlessly or trying to shut down Inaeun's special prosecution team, I'd clicked my tongue and figured I'd get rid of him. But after some time passed, he'd softened up. Seemed like he was tilting a bit toward my side.
"Still, it's not enough. Needs more impact for real impact."
It wasn't just about the Chief Prosecutor not listening. I planned to install my own candidate as the new Chief, and once the Permanent Special Prosecution Office was created, yank that guy over to be its head. With that grand scheme in mind, I couldn't let this slide so easily.
"Any new candidates lined up?"
"Yes. The strategy team recommends about four."
"Hand 'em over."
I took the documents from Sua and read through them.
"Hmm... only one woman, huh?"
In this society where anti-aging was standard for high-ranking women, there was a profile that stuck out like a sore thumb among the white-haired middle-aged guys—a woman who looked like a twenty-something college student. Of course, her actual age was easily double mine. But she didn't look like a prosecutor; more like some back-alley delinquent boss lady.
Why the fuck are there so many thugs?
They say you shouldn't judge by appearances, but what can you do? First impressions come from the outside.
Still, a woman would be better.
I made a rough decision and handed the documents back to Sua.
"Work on this woman."
"Yes."
"And swap the Namdong District Prosecutor's Chief for a woman too. Someone who can be loyal to me."
"Understood."
With Inaeun transferring to Namdong District Prosecutor's Office today, I figured I'd look out for her. And Namdong-gu was starting to feel like my territory. With my hands already in the police and politics, messing with the prosecutors there would be the cherry on top.
Kim Eunji, the assemblywoman for Namdong-gu Gap; Police Chief Doyunjeong; and now Inaeun as head of the Special Investigations Department at Namdong. That was already a solid force. If I got the Chief Prosecutor on my side too, it'd be damn near invincible from this end.
Might as well go all in.
It was Inaeun's first day as department head, after all. Showing up in person to boost her morale wouldn't be bad. Plus, I could check on the Namdong Industrial Complex site.
"Sua, prep the AV."
"Where to, Master?"
"Namdong District Prosecutor's Office. Leaving in 30 minutes."
"Yes, Master."
I gave the orders and headed out of the mansion toward the garden. At this hour, Danto was probably waddling around over there.
