99.99% Trash
In the world I lived in, there was a rule that when five people gathered, one of them was always trash.
This is a fact confirmed by the Earth author's lore, and it's a surprising truth engraved even in the Goryeo sugar.
So, if in a prison where tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of humans gather, how high would the trash ratio be?
The answer is 99.99%. All trash except me.
I was leaning against the chair back, shaking my legs, and looking at the line of guys lined up outside the cell.
"Enter one by one."
So, I had to call them one by one for the interview, even though I was reluctant.
Privacy doesn't exist in such a place, so there's no hiding or anything, so it's basically a public interview.
"Nice to meet you! If I have to say, I have a shining career even among the 60,000 generation..."
"The difference with me is only 10,000, is there any shining career or whatever? Let's keep it simple."
"... Special Duty participation 7 times, highest profit 470,000 won, position is vanguard."
"Eliminated."
"If it's not rude, can you tell me the reason for elimination?"
"I don't work with guys who have lies in their mouths."
"Not lies...!"
"In the Darkzone, tell me about the 3 most important things to prioritize as a vanguard position. Time limit 30 seconds."
"Scouting!"
"Again?"
"And... combat!"
"Oh, one left."
"Securing high-value cargo!"
I immediately stood up and slapped the guy's chest.
The guy was flung out and rolled on the floor pathetically.
"Vanguard position's top priority is scouting, mapping, and guiding."
Explain the reasons: Scouting is obvious because the guy at the front discovers dangers first. Mapping is crucial because if the vanguard doesn't know the Darkzone's structure well, the team will get lost. Guiding is the ability to lead the team safely along the shortest path to the goal for efficient farming.
"A guy who doesn't know even basic things is vanguard? Obviously a guy who was carried by teammates. Where did you get the lies from. Next."
The next guys who came were not much different.
They either inflated their Darkzone experience or acted like experts in fields they knew nothing about.
Every time, I personally peeled off their masks one by one, and finally, without exception, I kindly patted them with fists and kicks.
Since I chased about 30 guys out of the cell this way, it was getting on my nerves, so I warned the guys waiting outside in advance.
"From now on, if you blab about false careers or talk about fields you don't know well, I'll break your limbs one by one. If you fill 30 more, I'll cut one by one."
It seemed like they thought they could grab a big score by riding my fame, so they tried to cling on desperately. I hate freeloaders as much as trolls.
Did the warning work?
Some of the guys waiting outside left with awkward smiles, one by one from the interview waiting line.
Even though quite a few left, the line was still long, so I think today I really had to filter out the trash carefully.
The next one to enter was some friend whose face was vaguely familiar.
A somewhat small build that didn't match the high proportion of ugly prisoners in this prison.
Short silver hair down to shoulders, eyes like Baikal lake green and transparent, and skin as white and smooth as a snowfield with no blemishes.
Plus, androgynous beauty that makes it hard to tell if male or female.
Honestly, I thought "How can this person be in this hell?" but immediately corrected myself.
Judging people by appearance is the stupidest thing.
In fact, no matter how appearance is, I don't care even a little.
Didn't the party recruitment post say "regardless of gender, age, nationality, sentence length"?
Now, if you say you're fat so eliminated, or you're skinny so no, or you're bald so no, that's crazy discrimination.
"I don't care about your prison number, generation, or sentence length. Just actively appeal with material that interests me."
"Um... I follow orders without question."
"You know that. Last time too."
"Do you remember?!"
"Of course. When I told you to take my backpack, you ate it. Thinking about it, it's a bit annoying?"
He sent the Stalker first because I was busy, but I didn't expect this guy to eat the backpack.
If he ate the backpack too, I would have set a new record for 2nd round profit rate by a larger margin.
But past is past. Holding onto ugly past is not manly.
"Darkzone experience is obviously 1 time. You looked like a complete newbie then."
"Yes."
"But your stamina wasn't bad. Even carrying heavy loads in that urgent moment, you didn't show fatigue. Unlike appearance, you seem to have strength?"
"Hometown is Russia..."
"Slavs are tough guys or girls."
I heard Russians are macho even men and women because it's a harsh and dangerous place.
In winter, going into ice water and fighting Siberian bears, how crazy.
And spirituality wasn't bad either.
I didn't say it, but in such situations, weak friends usually get scared and can't move properly, or panic and do nonsense.
But the Russian in front didn't panic when chased by natives, when betrayed by comrades, or even when ambushed by Stalker.
Instead, he farmed as instructed and escaped on his own, so he seems capable of at least one person.
"Do you have any specialty skills to appeal? For example, having talent suitable for a certain position, or good at handling certain equipment."
"I learned general martial arts from the prison inmates while living here. I can handle any weapon basically alone."
"You too."
"And... I think I'm more skilled at scouting than others. Our family has been hunters since ancient times in our hometown."
"But you don't suit vanguard position. Then sub position?"
"If that's okay, I'll do it!"
With the guy's energetic answer, I checked the prepared document one by one and objectively analyzed how useful the Russian friend in front was.
Total score about 6.5 out of 10. Just barely above the minimum passing score of 6.
The reasons for the 3.5 deduction were as follows.
Small build: -1 point
Weak self-assertion: -0.5 points
Foreign, important communication difficult in urgent situation: -1 point
No personal implants or high-end equipment visible: -1 point
Especially the last part, the possibility that no personal implants or high-end equipment is high, so it acted as a deduction factor.
Even though I asked to actively appeal, not revealing whether he has personal implants or high-end equipment is the same as answering 'no' to me, even if he hid sensitive personal info.
Still, this is not bad.
Although I couldn't reach the passing score of 8 even if I hired immediately, 6.5 points under the assumption of teaching and hard work, there is room to grow into a skilled veteran.
"Good. First reserve. I'll notify the results via PrisonNet tonight, so you can go."
"Thanks!"
Polite and bright attitude.
If stamina and strength are quite good unlike appearance, maybe it's okay to carry two backpacks?
I gave him a coupon saying eat jjajangmyeon and sent him back.
If no more amazing guys come out, it's basically accepted, so on days like today, I should feed him jjajangmyeon.
"Alright, quickly next."
"Special Duty participation 2 times! Specialty combat! Hope position sub dealer!"
"Get out. Next."
Because it was scary to talk, the trash rolled in immediately and I sent him out.
This is the kind of white trash you don't pick up even in Darkzone.
At least, since he didn't lie, there's some credit, but I hope you realize soon that I don't want uselessly big guys.
After sending out the uselessly big guy, the one who came in was a male with similar height, slightly lean, around mid-30s.
He had dark circles under his eyes, and while being in the midst of bad prisoners outside, he kept peeking nervously and finally got the interview chance.
In a slightly different meaning from the previous Russian friend, he looked fragile.
"Um, first, no Special Duty participation, but I have knowledge of electronic devices and engineering devices. According to the surrounding inmates' words, they say in that Special Duty place, there are often strange devices, machine parts, electronic devices that are hard to handle. I can handle them without problem."
"Not bad. There will be times when you have to run or walk a lot, do you have stamina? Combat no problem."
"Stamina... I think it's average for my age group. With the help of auxiliary equipment or drugs, I might be able to do better than others. Of course, combat honestly I don't have confidence in."
"By any chance, before entering the prison, what did you do?"
"Site work at DH Tech under Daehan Group."
Daehan Group is a major domestic conglomerate affiliated with the corporate alliance with Technica.
DH Tech under it is known as a military complex enterprise, mainly developing combat robots, androids, personal firearms, etc.
Technica is a group of technology fanatics who prefer cutting-edge science and technology, so their technical power is not one-sided, but DH Tech is focused on military-related technology, I think.
I roughly figured out why the person in front entered the prison.
"You sold tech and got caught?"
"Exactly, I tried to exercise my own legitimate rights over the technology I developed."
There are often such humans.
Types who think the work they made at the company is not the company's but their own.
From the company's perspective, it's no different from a betrayer who was legitimately paid, so the law sentenced them, but the person thinks it's unjust.
"I wanted to give you points for your ability even if, but your mindset is rotten. Eliminated."
Even if no lies, as I said about breaking limbs if lying, if he came in boldly saying he has knowledge related to that, it's not a lie.
But a guy who can't distinguish mine and yours should be expelled from my party.
Because everything is mine.
"Unfortunately. I thought you would use my knowledge and abilities well."
"You were going to, if you weren't a scammer or corporate spy."
More accurately, a tech fanatic who wanted to switch from Daehan Group to Technica, so I can't trust.
"......"
"Anything else to say?"
"No. I just got interested. Honestly, when Technica people visit this prison, I thought they would come to me first, but since you came first instead of me, I was curious."
The story about the woman from Technica who has a strong disinfectant smell.
If it's a tech fanatic who failed to switch to Technica and has a bloated ego researcher, I would have expected it.
They wouldn't have thought that no one would come this time, and they would come to me for relief.
"Use that good head more efficiently. Who knows, like me, if I score big, will Technica people look at that side properly again."
"Advice gratefully noted."
After he left, I received as many as 80 more guests, but in the end, I couldn't select a proper raw material.
What remained was only a stiff neck and back from sitting for a long time.
"Done for."
I tried to put a 4-man full room ready, but ended up sending to Darkzone as an awkward 2-man party.
Now, the only one I can believe is the Russian friend!
