YouTube Blow-Ups Are a Pain (2)
“Yes, hello, it's Kiwi punk here! Today we're hunting down some insane wild modded cars at Pada Parking...”
Back at his place, Han Dae-jin fired up the editing software and started running through the footage he'd shot. In the action cam clips, he was darting around like some reporter, filming all the bizarre wild modded cars without a break.
“And here's today's star—say hi to the camera.”
“Uh, hi, I'm OOO...”
The awkward greeting from the Avante 3 (Science 3rd Unit) Sport wild modder owner got captured perfectly on angle.
“Word is this guy's driving is next-level insane. Anyone from the car club wanna confirm?”
“Hell yeah. Even 9THSILVER might lose to him.”
The Avante N mapping kid chimed in, and the clip turned into a sea of laughter. Han Dae-jin sliced and diced the interview bits in Premiere Pro, then dragged in some music from YouTube Studio and layered it on. He tweaked the volume roughly and played it back.
Next up was the Science 3rd Unit Sport with its Bello'n exhaust and popcorn mapping, blasting shitty exhaust notes and popping off as it peeled out of Pada and hit Olympic Expressway. Han Dae-jin debated including it, but caught the Science 3rd Unit Sport wild modder chick screaming curses from the audio and decided to keep it.
“You fucking bitch, your mom's moans are louder than that, you piece of shit!”
The audio hit, and everyone in the car was cracking up like maniacs. The clip showed the Science 3rd Unit Sport hitting Olympic Expressway, popping away as it weaved through traffic, ramping up speed. It hugged right up to a truck's ass, then darted diagonally into the next lane ahead of another car—textbook swerve. And at a solid clip too.
The Science 3rd Unit Sport chick unleashed a torrent of curses without mercy, dodging civilian cars left and right toward Gyeongin Expressway. Climbing from Gimpo onto the Outer Ring Expressway, the Science 3rd Unit Sport unleashed max power (mapped to a pathetic 240hp ceiling) and gunned it hard in lane 1.
In the footage, the Science 3rd Unit Sport chick was flashing high beams like crazy while blinking left in lane 1 nonstop—an Autobahn-style “get the fuck outta my way” signal. As cars cleared out, she attacked the wide Outer Ring road and its sweeping curves, using lanes 1 through 4 like a pro.
And she pulled off another stunt: true car-gap threading. She shot straight through between a car merging from lane 2 to 3 and one in lane 4. High beams and horns blared from behind, of course, and she drew a cross sign while sighing.
“Holy fuck, that's insane.”
Han Dae-jin's voice hit the audio, followed by her boyfriend in back yelling, “Hey, take it easy!”
Onto Gyeongin Expressway, where she shredded the jammed traffic like peeling off a scab. Especially squeezing between a taxi diagonal-running lanes 2 and 3 for an overtake—that was pure madness. The lunatic run only ended at the 3rd Yeolluk Bridge speed trap section, where Han Dae-jin finally sighed on camera.
The return trip was chill, so he just cut it down with some effects. Final edit clocked in around 10 minutes.
Video done, Han Dae-jin picked a thumbnail. He'd snapped a few pre-shoot with the Science 3rd Unit Sport chick in front of her car and went with the one that'd sell her face best. Thumbnail set, he scheduled the freshly encoded upload for Thursday 8 PM.
Flopping back on the bed, he pondered jerking off but felt drained—blood pressure spiked hard during editing. He shut down the PC rough and crashed early. Work tomorrow.
Promised Friday. Han Dae-jin clocked the insane blow-up on his Thursday night upload Friday morning at the office. Of course, he'd fucked up some work again and was catching heat. Fixed the mess, got team leader approval, and it was lunch.
Out for lunch with HR head Min Hee-yeon, Kim Ji-ho, and a few similar-aged coworkers, he got hit with YouTube questions right away.
“Dude, your vid blew the fuck up? Already at 50k views?”
One car-obsessed coworker said.
“Uh... yeah... but worried about a no-dak.”
Han Dae-jin replied.
“What's a no-dak?”
Min Hee-yeon asked.
“Yellow tag. Like monetization restriction warning. Yellow card equivalent?”
Han Dae-jin explained.
“Watched your vid earlier—that girl drives like a maniac. Hanging with those types?”
Min Hee-yeon said.
“This fucker filmed with a chick?”
Kim Ji-ho spat.
“Chill. Her boyfriend was there.”
Han Dae-jin told her.
“Don't hang with those street racer punks. Wanna race cars? Hit a proper track.”
Min Hee-yeon suggested.
“Uh... don't have a track car...”
“My ex tuned his Avante MD and ripped it fine.”
Min Hee-yeon shot back. But there was a trap—manual Avante MDs were basically built as machines from the jump. Fuck, should've bought one of those, crossed Han Dae-jin's mind. Then he flashed on TC1600 beast vids, wondering if he had the balls to control those tail-happy monsters.
At lunch spot, they watched his vid together. Min Hee-yeon zeroed in on the curses blasting as they left Pada.
“Whew, she's loud, but those swears are over the top.”
Min Hee-yeon said.
“Yeah.”
Han Dae-jin agreed. Lunch done, Friday afternoon work wrapped, he clocked out and hopped in the Science 3rd Unit. Still solid commuter and occasional runner, but it felt a few percent off somehow. Soaked too much? Or thirsty for more? Han Dae-jin gripped the wheel, pondering as he left the office hood.
Home, YouTube check: past 100k. Comments? Pure venom, naturally.
All sorts of deranged shit piling up—Han Dae-jin deleted the worst while lurking quietly.
Call from the Science 3rd Unit Sport wild modder chick hit soon after.
“Hello~?”
“Oppa! Views blew up huge!”
“Uh... yeah... thanks.”
Han Dae-jin awkwardly matched her awkward tone.
“But why the call?”
His voice dripped unease.
“Oppa... can you take the vid down?”
Fuck. Knew it.
“No, why? We agreed before shooting—no takedowns, issues or not.”
“But... comments are brutal. Calling me thicc and fuckable, saying my mom drove like that to give birth... ”
She sniffled. Han Dae-jin sighed.
“C'mon, don't do this. You knew the deal.”
“Oppa, Mom chewed me out hard. And that car-gap clip? If cops call...”
Han Dae-jin paused. Cops. Police issue? Maybe gotta cut it. But how many vids got nuked like this? Subs still low 100s partly cuz dumb reasons tanked hits. He eyed subs: 500 now. 5x jump. Couldn't ditch that. But couldn't burn bridges either. Ditch people for the vid?
“Fine.”
Han Dae-jin surrendered again. Deleted the vid, posted humiliating community notice.
Post up, hate rained down instantly.
Han Dae-jin sighed at the live hate, stepped out to the 1F convenience store for beer, and chugged.
Same time. Yoon Ha-rin's purple Avante 3 Sport and the wild chick's red one parked at Jangdi Night. Inside, Yoon Ha-rin and the chick talked.
“So he took it down?”
Yoon Ha-rin asked.
“Yeah.”
The Science 3rd Unit Sport chick said. Yoon Ha-rin silently slid over a fat white envelope. Chick peeked at the stacks of Shin Saimdang bills inside and smiled.
