Battle with the Boyfriend!
The next day, Kim Ji-ho showed up at the office hauling a full set of golf clubs. Min Hee-yeon asked if she was joining the company golf club, but Kim Ji-ho just said no. Han Dae-jin felt a knot of anxiety twisting in his gut. It was because he'd spent the night with Min Hee-yeon yesterday—they were both wearing the exact same clothes.
Kim Ji-ho said nothing, just stashed the golf clubs in a corner of the office and got to work. It was lunchtime when Han Dae-jin was about to drive her and Min Hee-yeon out for a meal. That's when Kim Ji-ho quietly picked up a club. Han Dae-jin had a gut feeling something was about to go down, but he couldn't do a damn thing to stop it.
Right as they were climbing into the car, Kim Ji-ho started swinging the club wildly, bashing the hell out of Han Dae-jin's ride and shattering the windows.
"What the fuck are you doing! Put that down!"
Han Dae-jin finally lunged to grab the club, but she yanked it back with brute strength that outmatched his own and cracked him across the face a few times. Min Hee-yeon tried to intervene, only to catch a beating from the club too. In the blink of an eye, the whole office staff had gathered around in shock.
"You... you crazy bitch..."
Min Hee-yeon snatched up a nearby brick from where she'd fallen, but Han Dae-jin wrested it away and chucked it toward a construction site for another company.
"You fucking cunts. Let's all die today. My life's fucked because of that piece-of-shit car and you assholes—come on, let's fucking die!"
Kim Ji-ho kept swinging, demolishing the car and pounding on Han Dae-jin and Min Hee-yeon, until the cops showed up—someone must've called them. "Let me go, you fucks! I said let go!" She screamed and fought like a wild animal, but it was no use. Han Dae-jin and Min Hee-yeon were already dazed from the blows to their heads, sprawled on the ground waiting for the paramedics.
Han Dae-jin came to in the hospital. Min Hee-yeon was in the next bed over, and Kim Ji-hyun was there visiting.
"Ah..."
He barely regained consciousness and scanned the room. Min Hee-yeon was already awake, giving her statement to the police.
"Well, that Kim Ji-ho girl got out on bail or whatever. Probably just a fine, right? Handle the settlement yourselves."
Kim Ji-hyun said.
"Ah... so that's how it went."
"'So that's how it went'? Fuck... you're the real problem here, you idiot. You fucked around and made this mess."
Kim Ji-hyun shot back in disbelief at Han Dae-jin's words.
"She'll get fired from the company, right?"
Han Dae-jin asked Kim Ji-hyun.
"You're on thin ice yourself."
She replied.
"Fuck..."
Han Dae-jin sighed heavily.
"Hey, it's for the best. Fresh start, new mindset."
Kim Ji-hyun patted his head and stood up.
The cops came by for Han Dae-jin's statement too. From the affair to his tangled mess with women, he spilled it all, and they just sighed.
"You're the victim, sure, but damn, you went too far. Should've picked one."
The detective said. Han Dae-jin had nothing to say.
"How's the woman next to me?"
"I'm no doctor, but she looks better off than you."
The detective replied.
The next day, with Kim Ji-hyun there for some reason, Kim Ji-ho's husband's lawyer showed up and shoved settlement papers at Han Dae-jin. They'd cover car repairs and medical bills if he promised to stay the hell away from her.
"Should I sign?"
Han Dae-jin asked. Kim Ji-hyun skimmed it and said, "Ends better than expected," then urged him to sign. He did.
Han Dae-jin handed his phone to Kim Ji-hyun and blocked every way to contact Kim Ji-ho. Meanwhile, Min Hee-yeon, lying in the next bed, wore a strange little smile.
A while later, after discharge, he returned to the office. Luckily, it ended with just a one-month pay cut for him—and Min Hee-yeon too, as HR head. Han Dae-jin handled Kim Ji-ho's workload alone for a bit. His new superior treated him like a freak and reamed him out nonstop. He was trapped in yet another noose, counting down to his next fuck with Min Hee-yeon.
Weekend. Han Dae-jin took Min Hee-yeon to Gimpo Coffee Special. She linked arms with him right after getting out of the car, greeting his car-guy buddies, friends, and seniors. Jin Na-hee and Lee Hyun-woo, seeing her after ages, were thrown off but said hi.
Then Lee Hyun-woo pulled Han Dae-jin aside.
"Hey, Dae-jin. You know who that chick is, right?"
"My work superior... now..."
"You dumb fuck, that's the girlfriend of that J1 Racing driver's brother. You steal her and what? If that gets back to him, you think you can handle it?"
"Ah... Hee-yeon noona said she scrapped the car..."
"You think a racing team has just one car? Fuck, you're in deep shit."
While Lee Hyun-woo laid it out, Min Hee-yeon chatted with the women car enthusiasts. Han Dae-jin glanced at her.
"What the hell am I supposed to do? She acts like she'll kill me if I don't."
"She said that?"
"I'm stuck, man. Keeps pushing me to sell the car too."
Lee Hyun-woo thought for a sec, lit a cigarette.
"So what's your plan now?"
"What should I do, hyung? Ditch her and I'll get fired."
"What the fuck is she?"
"Handles all HR shit at the company."
"Fuck... how'd you end up with a viper like that... Tough break."
As Lee Hyun-woo spoke, Jin Na-hee came over and got the rundown. She sighed and comforted him.
"Dude, do you have to live like this? Just race solo to blow off steam—why drag women into it?"
"Tell me about it."
"For real. So what happened with that Kim Ji-ho?"
"Bail for now, but sounds like suspended sentence."
Jin Na-hee clicked her tongue.
"Remarriage talk and this shitshow?"
"Na-hee, it's still an affair. Gets out, we're done."
Lee Hyun-woo jumped in. Han Dae-jin had no comeback.
That's when Kim Ji-hyun's G87 M2 pulled into the cafe lot. She parked, spotted Min Hee-yeon with the girls, and walked over.
"How'd you get here?"
"Dae-jin's car."
Min Hee-yeon said. Kim Ji-hyun sighed and headed to the smoking area where Han Dae-jin was scheming.
"Noona, you're here. You hear about her?"
Lee Hyun-woo said.
"My ears are rotting. Hearing you idiots makes me feel like I'm catching AIDS."
Kim Ji-hyun replied.
"This is bad. J1 Racing guys are scary as fuck. Wait—shit, call from J1 team leader. Yeah?"
Lee Hyun-woo took the call. Han Dae-jin froze in cold sweat.
Lee Hyun-woo hung up, sighed long at him.
"You're fucked, kid. J1 Racing's coming here en masse."
Han Dae-jin broke out in a sweat. Kim Ji-hyun smirked.
"Don't pussy out, fucker. I taught you better."
She slapped his back.
Soon, the Gimpo Coffee Special lot filled with the roar of Avante MD race cars—Arma engines with high cams, high compression, porting. Pure BTEC thunder. J1 Racing crew.
As they piled out, Min Hee-yeon hid behind Han Dae-jin. A burly guy from the black Avante MD approached—not Han Dae-jin, but Min Hee-yeon behind him.
"You Han Dae-jin? Got words for my girlfriend back there."
Before Han Dae-jin could speak, Min Hee-yeon stepped forward.
"What."
"That true what I heard? You been calling that guy your boyfriend?"
"Then you shouldn't have met that team manager."
Min Hee-yeon's maybe-current-maybe-ex boyfriend said. She fired back.
"Hey, Han Dae-jin. You think she's your girl?"
Han Dae-jin hesitated.
"Yeah."
The air exploded in cheers.
"Wanna take her? Gotta go through me. Race cars or mano-a-mano?"
Min Hee-yeon's boyfriend challenger said. Han Dae-jin didn't hesitate.
"Cars."
Kim Ji-hyun smirked and nodded.
