The Text That Hit Too Close to Home
It was just another ordinary Friday. The corporate warriors living their best lives might be hyped about “TGIF” and planning to tear up the weekend, but for a full-time NEET and job seeker whose every single day was a holiday, the concept meant nothing. No, let me correct that. When it comes to me, I’m a teacher, a cult leader, a commander, and the hero who saves the world… anyway, I’ve got a lot of jobs! To protect countless worlds, I have to keep my fingers busy even on Fridays when everyone else is slacking off. That’s just how it is.
“Ding!”
Who the hell is this? What kind of pathetic loser sends a text this late at night? It’s obviously spam. Has to be.
In all my years I’d never seen spam that scratched at someone quite like this. Plenty of game ads deliberately trigger your rage and make you feel like you’re choking on frustration, but they don’t usually mock you this openly. I’d been feeling pretty good after drinking alone and getting nicely buzzed, but reading this suddenly sobered me right up. Still, before I knew it my thumb was scrolling down, devouring every word. Was this the classic 19+ manga cliché of “the mouth says one thing but the body is honest”?
Without thinking I typed in my personal information and slammed the send button. This is why alcohol is dangerous. It clouds your judgment and makes you do stupid shit. But those bastards provoked me first, didn’t they? What the hell is wrong with rerolling and playing completely free-to-play? It’s not like anyone chooses to be broke. Shit… I think I drank too much. Sleep is crashing over me like a wave.
With that, I hurled my phone into the corner of the bed, flopped down spread-eagle, and passed out.
