Chapter 1
Contract
“You have checked the contents, yes? All that’s left is your signature.”
The devil spoke with a gentle smile.
From the very beginning until now, that smile had never once left his face.
It was as if even waiting was something natural for a devil.
“Can I… ask just one thing?”
“Of course.”
“Is it still… possible to cancel this?”
The devil laughed.
“Of course it is. You simply don’t sign and walk out. In exchange, you will die.”
Even to such an obvious question, the devil remained polite to the end.
“I don’t mind if you refuse. Someone else will simply sit in this place.”
The devil’s gaze drifted toward the door behind me.
There were always plenty of people who desired the devil’s power.
Those who cling to devils usually have desperate wishes.
Was even the desire to simply survive counted as one of those wishes?
If so, then I was no different from them.
In fact, I was probably more ordinary, more cliché than most.
Even now, outside that door, there were countless people praying earnestly that this contract would not be concluded.
Hearing that someone else could replace me if I refused, I looked down at the contract I had already read dozens of times.
The words had not changed.
What had changed was only my heart as I read them.
“As consideration for this contract, the party of the second part surrenders their existence to the party of the first part.”
I took a slow breath and then picked up the pen as if holding a poisoned chalice.
Even though I knew this might be the worst decision of my entire life, this was the only path left for me to survive.
Scratch—
The sound of the pen scratching against the paper rang out unnaturally clear.
When the final stroke of my name was completed, the devil slowly took the contract back.
After confirming my signature, the devil smiled so widely it looked like his mouth might tear apart.
“From this moment on, you are an officially certified demon broker.”
